- The Vietnamese food in Australia is excellent. The meat quality is a lot better than in America and it seems like the ingredients like the noodles are more fresh. It was amazing to finally visit to see old friends and meet new viewers and friends. Thank you everyone! I really loved Australia.
Here are some of the places I ate at
in Melbourne area: Pho Chu The, Thuan Phat, Thy's Sandwiches, Meat Pies at Bourkies Bakehouse
Sydney area: Pho An, Che Thien An, Hai Au Lang Nuong, Hu Tieu Thanh Van, Bun Bo Hue Dong Ba

About Me: I'm Kyle Le and these are the places I've been, the people I've met, the foods I've eaten, and the many things that I've seen...Originally from Southern California, I moved to Saigon, Vietnam after university and lived there for many years. Then, I traveled the world finding and documenting stories of Vietnamese people living outside of the homeland. Then I finished my master's at USC and now... well... you're going to have to follow and watch to find out!

Thank you so much for watching! The list of the places I visited are in the description. Come back soon for the next video, where I reunite a daughter from Indiana with her father in Sydney!
Next time you need to come to the Blue Mountains. The Laughing Elephant in Wentworth Falls does the best Banh Mi rolls I've ever had.
A paddock is a grassy rural field, a fallow unfarmed field.
Really happy you had such a great time, we take our food VERY seriously in Australia 🌏 😁
Mate, should have stopped in Dickson in Canberra.
This is what I love about Australia man said he is Lebanese, Japanese, English and born in Australia and his wife is Vietnamese. ❤
Agreed. I love how asking where someone is from isn't a bad thing. People actually interested how you ended up in Australia as we all have a story about how we got here.
@@andrewvolf2916don’t speak on behalf of everyone.
I’m Australian born, 48 years old and have lived here all my life, and racist Australians have the cheek to tell me I’m a Sri Lankan just because ONE of my parents is from there and lived there 60 years ago.
Non whites don’t do that.
Other cultures genuinely want to know, but racists do it to wrongly tell you that ‘you look different so you’re not one of us’.
It’s really like that here 😂 I’m Lebanese, Palestinian, Aboriginal and Irish and was born in Sydney 😅
That group of friends seemed so much fun! Had the biggest smile watching the interaction.
yea that's really cool they live in different parts of the world now and make time to have a trip together.
I love seeing big friend groups that last, especially when they're from across the world
The Lebanese guy spoke Vietnamese so well!
Welcome to Australia Kyle 🇦🇺
Im Australian when I worked in France the thing I missed most about Australia was the Asian/Indian food, its truly top notch. Cabramatta is Vietnamese food heaven.
I 100% agree with you - the Vietnamese food in Australia is very good!
The pho and that mi were two of my favorites.
@@kyleledotnet good to hear from you bro - I've followed you for many years. Have you finished your college studies yet and what's your chosen career path? Good luck with everything and stay safe. Kevin from Australia
@kyleledotnet Yes. The pho noodles in Australia is better because it's fresh. My sister moved from Australia to USA and doesn't like the pho there
@@ll_spudI think Australia has the best pho in the world, I’ve been to Saigon multiple times and still yet to find a place that’s better than what I get in Sydney. The spices, noodles, and even techniques are similar but the beef in Australia is much, much better
Wow man this is making me so proud. Im in Sydney , my parents just got back from 3 weeks in Na Trang & Saigon 2 days ago ...
My mum has travelled lots but she came home beaming about the situation in Vietnam. Particularly keeps saying the Vietnamese men are the most respectful, most polite and helpful people she comes across wherever she is ....
You are a lovely young man.
Banh Mi shops in Australia are DOMINATING Subway 👍
❤ Banh Mi !!
Australia has lots of laws protecting our fresh produce - growing, gathering, storage and cooking - making everything safe to eat and because our standards are so high, the competition is strong and leads to better and better restaurants.
I went to Sydney in 2010 and was told this by a local after I told him how delicious all the foods were. I'm glad things are still like this today. I hope someday I can visit again.
We really appreciate the vietnamese food and culture in Sydney, its our honour to respect it and welcome you here 🙏
Over a decade later still supporting your channel, glad to see you thriving bro 🙌
Nothing better than being recognised for the things youve done, and not to mention in Aussieland. Hope you had a great time here kyle
I'm glad you made it to Australia, Kyle. Hope you enjoyed it ❤
I was in june this year in Sidney. Banh mi in Sidney is the best. Better than in Houston. And the people in shop in Sidney are more friendlier than vietnamese in Houston. Well done the people in Sidney
Sydney 😊
Cool...Ive been watching you for a while. I am in Melbourne Australia. I am so surprised you were here..nice!
I love the vietnamese food here, its good to hear a Vietnamese say Australia has really good Vietnamese food.
Glad you had a great time in Oz. ❤😊😊
So weird to see Pho Chu The in your videos as someone who has been watching your content for quite a few years!
As a Western person that speaks Vietnamese I’ve always found your videos helpful to expand my vocabulary and listen to real conversation.
I didn't know you were in Australia. That must be a few months back as it's winter now in Oz. Glad you had a good time and yes we follow you and we know you 😁 Keep up the good work Kyle.
Loved my time in Saigon, and lets me appreciate how good the Vietnamese food here in Adelaide is.
thats amazing man!! yes its true the beef and seafood in australia is another level and i go to socal/oc area a lot because my grandpa lives there hahah
3:30 that’s an ibis also unaffectionately known as the “bin-chicken”, due to its affinity for rummaging through garbage bins.
I'm so happy you love our Viet food! We are very proud of it 😊
Of course it's awesome! Australian Vietnamese are the best. They fit right in, work hard, love family, and enjoy a beer. The food is fantastic.
Yes unlike a lot of other immigrants. Vietnamese love to have bbq, drink VB, talk smack and dont let religion get in the way. Love it or leave it.
Hope you defend minorities when your kind heap racism on us.
Otherwise it doesn’t really count for anything by just taking our food and cultures.
I also agree that Vietnamese Food in Australia is incredible...largely due to the ease of access to top produce such as Aussie wagyu and the seafood from our pristine waters.
aaaah it finally clicked to me, i watched your video because RUclips presented it to me and it had Australia in the title but at the end links came up for more of your videos and it was there that i realised i have watched your video's before, i can see why those other people were excited to meet you because i love your work also. glad your stay in Australia was a positive one.
Thank you!
Great to see you in my hometown Kyle. Was born and raised in Sydney. Live in Adelaide these days though.
Welcome to Australia. I asked you to come 6 years ago. But better late than never
Jack definitely impressed his wifes parents, i always love it when other people learn and speak our languages.
We have a good amount of Vietnamese community in Australia.
yes! so many in so many suburbs. it's really great.
Australia has their own Little Saigon. Thank you for this fun video.
They have many little Saigon’s!! The really famous one in Cabramatta will be featured in the next video!
Everything in Australia 🇦🇺 is better than the USA 🇺🇸 😱😱😱
10000%
I remember seeing your instagram story and thinking that he is so close. Wow, thanks for coming to Australia. 😊
You’re famous here my bro. Love your content. Melbourne Aus. Outside looking in
Part 2 of seeing each other at the gas station! So fun! :)
I was also surprised to find a ton of Aussie Blue Gums growing all around San Diego when I was there. No wonder the trees looked familiar to you.
this episode warmed my heart.
That chance second meeting at the gas station happened because it was meant to. I loved hearing you say that that moment is inspiring you to follow up their long distance 45 year friendship story with a Kyle Le documentary. I’ll be anxiously waiting for it.
I would love to, but a third meeting even a scheduled one would be extremely difficult and even more difficult to produce a documentary, but who knows, stranger things have happened.
I doubt you’re still here but if you are Brisbane and the place is called Pho Queue. Best pho I’ve ever had
Noted, thank you. Maybe in the future if I ever visit Brisbane
Not just viet food either! Sydney is very multiculural so they good food for most cuisines
Another wonderful and entertaining Kyle--keep 'em coming.
thank you for coming back!
Wow! I grew up near bankstown and I never new to go eat Hu Tieu at that restaurant you went to. Loved this content! To the comment above about how Vietnamese are always comparing food 😂 WELL, I grew up amongst all this good Vietnamese food. And then I went abroad to several places and missed it so much. I’m still here in the US and maybe it’s because I haven’t lived by the big viet communities, but I’m always comparing it against Cabramatta as a standard. The Banh mis aka pork rolls are incomparable!
yoo, every where you go people love you
Paddock is a common name in USA for where the animals/horses are turned out.
Kyle you are world famous in Australia !!
lol I forgot about your channel 😝 just saw article on banh xeo n saw ur pic with mark so had to see what you’re up to. Welcome to Sydney !
So happy to see you have more new videos !
12:54 I follow you. I know you! 😂😂😂😂😂
👌
I agree with You. The taste of the meat and the ingredients they puts in the food isn’t more salty or sweeter than in USA
Oh no! I missed out. I didn’t realize that you came to Australia
Sorry! This was filmed many many months ago. I've been so busy so haven't had the time to edit until now.
@@kyleledotnet It is all good Kyle. I am glad that you enjoyed your time in Australia
To be totally honest, it’s not just Vietnamese food which is better in Australia. ALL FOOD in Australia is better than its American equivalent.
In my opinion it’s because, although we do ‘adapt’ cuisines, we do not try to completely reinvent them in the way America does. We actually embrace the differences in the food rather than try to homogenise it.
Makes sense to me!
Yeah. Even Thai, Korean, Japanese and Mexican too. Also soul food and Cajun you can’t forget how much better Caribbean, Nigerian and Egyptian food the aussies make is so much better too. Can’t forget barbecue either. Mm mmm 🤣🤣🤣
@@afroabroad Bastardising foreign foods sky,d never work here as we have too many people from these countries living her, who know better, and would boycott any attempt at changing time honoured dishes. We keep it as authentic as we can, and we are all better off for it.
@@just_passing_through Yeah because America isn’t diverse at all. Never had immigrants from Cuba, Jamaica or Honduras. And there is no possible way ‘Merica could ever have more Vietnamese immigrants than Australia. The same with Aussie bbq or steak that doesn’t need seasoning it’s so good ya just cook it without any seasoning at all.
@@afroabroadwhat are you one about America has way more Vietnamese than Australia
welcome to Australia Kyle Le
Welcome to Ottawa, Canada some day, Kyle!
Damn 45 years Besties and they're still friends
Welcome to the land down under!

I'm surprised you didn't go to Marrickville in Sydney.
Been following your videos for years ! Love your vids ! ... And im not even Vietnamese lol
Awesome! Thank you so much for following and for writing
Ofth Sydney Viet food is the best if not the best In Whole world hands down
you should go to Adelaide and go to Nhu Lan cuz theres good food there in adelaide and its vietnamese
Hope you doing well kyle 🎉
Bro come Cabramatta and Canley Heights its the Viet Capital of Australia
Welcome back bro
Our quality of produce is the best in the world which helps for great food! Large vietnamese community in both melb and sydney which helps as well
Makes sense, thanks for watching
I have not tired US Vietnamese food, but between Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, I reckon Melbourne has the best Vietnamese food
I can't believe you went to St albans been rolling you for years I would never thought you'll come to my childhood suburb God dam
Thank you! Anything can happen !
May I highly recommend pho pasteur in parramatta with northern style spring rolls
The Bin Chicken 😂😂😂
Welcome to Australia!! Hope you have an enjoyable trip and stay… if you are coming to Perth? Would love to buy you lunch or dinner 😁
Thank you but this was filmed months prior.
@@kyleledotnet Future trip perhaps 🤔? 😁😉
@@kenchen375 If i ever get the chance to go to Perth, I would definitely love to visit! thank you!
As an Australian living and working here in Vietnam with my Vietnamese girlfriend who i met here, this video was so bizarre in a good way as im balls deep into this culture and then to hear a Vietnamese/American's take on Australia......Weird
Dude while watching the video I recognise all these locations in Sydney and Melbourne - Cabramatta (the dessert places, Hai Au Thang Long), Bankstown (Pho An), St Albans (Alfreida Street), Footscray (The market).
Hope you took videos of Springvale too
Thanks for watching
We use FRESH rice noodles in our pho 😊
Funny...I see you know my uncle Michael lol
Welcome to Australia!
Thank you
Bankstown!!!!!!
Australia is basically an Asian country really so the food is everywhere
Wish I knew u were in syd. Def wooda came to meet u
Maybe next time! Please follow me on IG or FB to see updates
Hi Kyle, the group of Vietnamese you met twice are alumni of trường trung học Petrus Trương Vĩnh Ký (trước 75) niên khóa 71-78. Sau 75 trường đổi tên là Lê Hồng Phong
Do you know them personally?
@@kyleledotnet I don't know them personally but if I'm not mistaken, the driver/Melburnian looks like Dr Tien Dung Kieu (Kiều Tiến Dũng), former Member of the Victorian Parliament. I'm from Melbourne, hence recognise him.
He could be a lead if you wanted to reach out to them. All the best. Great video!
@@kyleledotnet Yes, they are my friend....i live in Mississauga by the way 🥸
If you wanted to see LOTS of wild cockatoos, you just needed to go to the Royal Botanic Gardens on tne other side of the Sydney Opera House. 🤪😻
Noted, thanks !
Kyle why dont you visit Vietnamese community in Nouméa, New Caledonia 🇫🇷 . Two 50mins by plane.
I would love to one day if I ever get back to that part of the world. This video was filmed many months ago.
Mới gặp bạn ở Phố đi Bộ - mà nay tới Úc r, chúc may mắn nhé.
cam on ban!
Albury NSW servo's represent!
I’m also from Little Saigon OC and visited Melbourne for my husband’s family but didn’t find the pho impressive. It’s better than Bay Area pho but not better than OC pho. Maybe I’ll give it a second try.
The place I ate in Melbourne was compariable to oc pho but pho an in bankstown was better in terms of beef quality and broth. It was perfect for me.
Australian viet food is number 1
I live in Melbourne and really strugle to find a good Vietnamese restaurant to dine out. If we want to eat a nice authentic Vietnamese dish, we have to cook it ourselves.
come to springvale, there are many vietnamese restaurants.
i work in sydney with a vietnamese girl, and she said she was going home for the holidays, so i said, Cabramatta? we both laughed. thats my story.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your story...
@@kyleledotnet short story shorter, cabramatta is the vietnamese capital of sydney, which makes it one of the best places for food in sydney. cant wait for your next video.
Watch out for angry birds - the ubiquitous magpies, season is on right now.
Pies are better in NZ. Also the meat quality.
That’s what I’ve heard… I will try them one day sooner than later.
Opposite to An Restaurant in Bankstown, there's a restaurant (La Ca 43). They sell unique 1 person hotpot and their Nem Lui is the best in town.
Viet food in Australia is very good!!
the best pho is in bankstown, not far from An, called pitago, Food there is amazing. Bankston also has the best Bahn mi , better than the ones you can get from cabramatta.
Thank you for sharing!
Welcome to Australia! Are you coming to Brisbane?
Sorry, this was filmed a very long time ago... hopefully I'll get to visit in the future.
I think Vietnamese run most bakeries in Australia
Safer not to mention Aussie meat pies if you don't want a bunch of Kiwis taking over the comments on how much better kiwi pies are.
Sounds like I need to go to NZ my self to see …
Omggg Kyle come to Adelaide 😊
Not this time but maybe next time,,, what’s there ?
@@kyleledotnet farms farms one of best produce states in australia and lots of us Vietnamese that do it 😊
DID YOU GO TO CABRAMATTA
Yes, you’ll see more of that next video
Bankstown 🤙🇭🇲
I don't get what happens to food when it gets to the USA.
Just one example we went into a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco in Chinatown, the people who ran the restaurant barely spoke English and the restaurant was full of Chinese (my wife is Cantonese) we thought we were safe.
The food was gross, but supersized. The dim sim was twice the size and doughy and flavourless. We were seriously thinking of leaving the food on the plate and just walking away. I seriously think Americans can't taste anything except salt, sugar and grease, the rest is "how big it is".
Houston Texas is pretty good.
Of course the Vietnamese food is better here. Especially in Sydney, where there is a large Vietnamese community.
If you come my way, Morley is the place to go for good Vietnamese food.
🤔🤔I thought I saw you around the last few days; I been telling family and friends that I'm sure I saw my Internet Son here. Please say "Hello" if you see me, you know how all Vietnamese look the same! 😆😜😉 (Also, I don't need another young man saying that I'm stalking them [he actually stalks me!], if I say hello and ask them their name.) 😆😜😉 ❤️🙋♀️
Nah Kyle is just rage baiting. The largest Vietnamese diaspora in the world outside of Vietnam is in California.
This was filmed many many months ago …
Not my intention, the meat quality is just better in Australia because the cows are raised better in fields and not so many chemicals like in the states. Also, most pho places have dry rehydrated noodles in the states… not in Aus. This is just my opinion and own experiences. A large diaspora doesn’t necessarily mean that the ingredients are fresh. I mean, I had great pho in Tampere Finland… not many Vietnamese people are there.
@Yungdil 🤔I guess Kyle is just stirring some friends who have restaurants in California. 😜
