10 Tips to Get Better at Football Manager

- For the first '10 Football Manager Tips' I kept a notepad. Now, I've upgraded - Google Docs baby. I was on the hunt for different FM features I didn't know about, which were too small to include in my other Football Manager tutorials. The result is a list of 10 tricks to up your game, from minor aesthetics to tactical analysis and overlooked roles that can change your life. Especially if you're as invested in Football Manager as I am.
If you like guides in this piece-by-piece format let me know in the comments! I'm always checking other ways to give y'all the information I put together. I feel like I need one of these every once in a while to catch everything that falls through the cracks. Happy Football Manager-ing and enjoy the tips!

There are many factors in sports picks. One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Simple Sports Goldmine (check it out on google) definately the most helpful resource that I have ever seen.look at all the super info .
Wierd how a bloody American became my favorite FM-youtuber. Even wierder, he teach me shit I dident know in a game I played since 96/97. Thumbs up from Norway!
Ah, norwegian football. It kickstarted my Journeyman save back in FM 18. Brought Finnsnes IL to the top flight and then moved on but I still have lots of good memories from that time
I need to start a new save in Norway, like fr. I also never got over that late comeback Norway pulled off on my beloved Brazil in the 98' World Cup lol
Tip 6: Fair warning can be a bit of a trap for newer players. As it compares ALL the players in your first team to ALL the players in other teams first team. So be very careful how serious you take it as it doesn't compare your starting eleven to other starting eleven. If you have a lot of youngsters being mentored/ as back ups with less ability but potential you will show worse as compared to having 11 backups of almost similar level and it will say little about your actual relative strength.

Thanks for the video. I just went to the clauses part of the trasfer section and sold a clause to schalke for 9 million pounds which was added to my transfer budget. Would never have checked it out without this video. Thanks Zealand
Tip 11:save scumming and you'll never lose again
On the clauses one, I was in the Vanarama National South when sold my hot prospect GK for 200k and 50% of next sale. Next year I sold the clause for almost 5Mil and was able to build up my facilities.
Next thing I know, the player ended his contract and released from the club.
I did not expect to have my mind blown when you made that promise at the start of the video, but... when you said you could right click to set the training sessions my world changed a little.
could you please make a video on how we can use analysis to our advantage for matches, players and tactics etc?

A tip for match preparation: instead of checking each of the opposition player's attributes to make selection decisions, you can go to your pre-match analysis report, click on the opposition team's strengths or weaknesses (the 12 more... button) and then squad comparison. You can see exactly what you're better at, and what they're better at.

I always think I know everything about FM then I watch a Zealand video. That comparison screen blew my fucking mind

Looks like I've had my central players on the wrong side all this time. Switched them and we beat a team we had previously lost to in the next match by quite a bit. Anecdote, but it does seem to make a difference. Fullbacks instead of wingbacks shut down the sides much better. Mezzalas in a two-man midfield also made a massive difference.

I used number 4 for the first time in my Manchester United save. Got Januzaj and Depay back for almost no money, used them a season and sold them again 4x their clauses :D

Hey Zealand. First of all, you did blow my mind at least once with this video.
And secondly, maybe it's a bit OCD of my part, but for a very long time I've restricted myself to playing WBs narrow formations or behind IFs. With wingers, for example, it would always be FBs.
It's weird to me how people automatically go with WBs without considering the FBs.
just wanna tell you all two related tips: always make your relationships with players *hold you in the highest regards as head coach* and always make the 3 dynamics sector green atleast
I'm using MU currently, and I'm in the start of the season 2030/2031 now, and previously at 2028/2029 I won the treble (EPL, FA Cup, Carabao Cup) and the finalist of UCL (beaten by Tottenham 🙃), and at 2029/2030, i finished 7, yes, 7, knocked out from all competitions and just won Community Shield only, and after the last team meeting 50% of my players asked to leave, and i told everyone of em that they won't find the same atmosphere everywhere, and they all just like "yeah, why did i raised up this problem at the first place".
Something I just started to do is schedule friendlies during international breaks. Pull anyone that needs the minutes into these games. It's a great way to get players on the fringes game time.
Plus you'll make some money
The tip on injuries, I use this when I decide if I wanna give that player who’s 28 one last big contract or if it’s better to sell them.
What’s the point paying someone a massive amount of your budget if they’re out 1/3 or 1/2 a season? Sell them bring in a new player or just promote someone in your team

Hi Zealand, i´m playing fm19 and my fullbacks are killing me. when the rival winger attacks the position, they dont press (though all my instructions are on high press and tight marking), instead they run back screaming until they reack my area. Only then they dare to press and mark... also if the winger cuts inside they just stand on their wide position, watching... (defending narrow doesn´t fix this)
Do you need a certain staff member to be able to do match review? Im at a real small club and when I hover over match review, Im not able to choose it.

Question that may turn into a video. When is it useful to loan young guys out when u have good coaches in 2nd team? Also with loans how to you help someones loan happiness and what does it affect?
Maybe you've already done this (new to the channel), but I've always wondered about Tactics->Match Plans. Match Plans? I never noticed this tab ever until today. You get 3 tactics and deviating risks unfamiliarity penalties but does having Match Plans game the system and allow your players to "know more?" Do you have to manually enact them during a game or are they automatic? What in the heck is this?

Seeing as you mentioned Loan Manager..... Will a Loan Manager do a better job of actually getting players in the Development list out to a club? I find players just sit on this list, going nowhere, until I do it manually.

quick question zealando. how is it that, when i´m scouting players sometimes it takes them only 1-2 days to discover the potential of a player and sometimes it takes them a whole week?

Really wish they would add an option for % of wages paid by selling club when using the unwanted list. My staff always accept bids for the value but they have my club paying a huge chunk of their wages. 🤔

The side they prefer has absolutely no effect in the game. It's just a nice cosmetic detail :)

Anyone else find FM20 absurdly easy? I've completed 3 seasons, 1 as Altrincham, 1 as Forest Green and 1 as Dukla Prague. Won the league each season at a canter, twice without losing a single game. I'm not the best player, despite playing since CM93, so I've not suddenly channelled Carlo Ancelotti.
I'm only on FM Touch but certainly not easy. About 50% of my saves I've been sacked within the first season. But others I have been successful on, seems like pot luck at the moment whether what I do works or not. Premier League saves seem to be the hardest to be honest. In other leagues I can do ok and make steady progress, in the Premier League literally anyone can beat my teams so it seems totally random.
