    Caught Vortex at nyff, honestly his best film in my opinion and an excellent use of the split screen. Never sobbed harder watching a film in my life.

    I always think Noe is almost like an installation artist. He takes all these elements and pushes a film into the them. The film Climax is a really good example of this. The end doesn't really matter its the horrendous experience your pushed through as a viewer.

    I struggle with epilepsy, and his movies are truly unwatchable for me. That's a little bit sad, for I love films and want to know first hand, who the f''k is Gaspar Noe.)

      I think you can watch Carne and I Stand Alone
      And also apparently Vortex is a really « calm » Gaspar Noe film (haven’t seen it yet but that’s what I’ve heard of)

    Apart from the two main actresses, Charlotte Gainsbourg and
    Béatrice Dalle, being French 80's icons, you'll also recognize Abbey Lee if you also watch "Neon Demon" (2016). The latter may indeed be typecasting herself, but I guess it works for her.

    Super grateful for your review. Just saw this for my Halloween finale and it absolutely broke me. All the noise, all the chaos, all the buildup was so perfectly released that in the ephemeral climax I actually broke into tears.
    Anyway, I really appreciate your well thought out and articulated review. Very insightful, thank you so much!

Not only did you help me understand the movie (thank you!), but your way of speaking and obvious knowledge of the movie medium is so enchanting! Thank you, I wouldn't go to see a movie that burns eyes in lights. And, strangely your review seems to give more than the movie itself. Like your body is in an expression that researches a way to communicate art or creativity. After the trailer, I think the texts of the movie are fantastic, even if they are unreadable because for me it opposes individual and in some way a dancing scene. Excellent review.

    Seems like a huge step down from even Climax, let alone Enter the Void. Not feeling that 3 split epileptic rainbow lights style at all....not artistically or thematically sound to me imo. It's not drawing me in to watch. I'm still a bit intrigued because it's Noe but....idk. directors like Argento can wow me with craziness like Phenomena but at least not assault and overload my senses to the point of absurdity.

  • @AaronHatcher

    I watched this in 2019 and it was um a movie I think? I get the movies theme and stuff but I did not like this one very much. I didn't like climax either but I didn't like climax because all the characters but maybe 1 were just horrible people. They all annoyed the shit out of me. The only part of climax I liked was the very non subtle reference to the subway scene of Isabelle Adjani in the movie possession (1981). This one just Def wasn't my thing. I don't think I connect or care for gasper probably. And I like weird tippy movies but his films feel very mean spirited. They just come across in a way that rubs me wrong. Idk. Just a me thing I'm sure

    • @beyondz55
      @beyondz55 2 года назад

      Just you mentioning that scene from Possession instantly puts the images back in my mind. What a masterpiece of horror. And yes Noe paid homage in such an obvious way lol.

    • @DenNEE

      No offense, but that's a very narrow-minded take in my opinion, especially since movies can be so much more than just 'entertainment'.
      To answer OP's question; Enter The Void is a good start, as it's both a great film with an interesting narrative, as well as being visually stunning. Plus, personally, I'd say it's not too hard to watch.

    Everyone suffers so you don’t have to be self indulgent about it, you just have to relate to it in a deep way. Unhealthy otherwise. Schindlers List does not need the director or actors to live through the holocaust to make it.
