They were about a year, or two, older than I was when this came out. I adored LL baseball and all that went with it. Putting your glove, and cleats, on the handlebars of your bike and riding to practice. After the games, win or lose, running to the snack bar to get a Frito boat, a snow cone ( what we called them before "shaved ice" became popular ) and a Lik-M-Aid candy. This movie brings back so many great memories.
and it makes it so that the film doesn't seem dated..the sequels to the bad news bears used rock that was contemporary to that day, it makes the movies seem so late '70s..whereas the original bad news bears seems more timeless...
other movies that did really well with symphonic compositions: star wars series (only SW/Empire Strikes Back/Return of Jedi, please...) had seen where there was debate about that music versus something more contemporary futuristic movie with spaceships, laser weapons and droids... slam dunk for a futuristic synthesised sound or such. who cares that it took place "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away"? like w BNB, symphonic composition was the best choice. for that and SW, thank God they did not try to be "contemporary", "modern", "edgy", or "hip" with it
@@Numantino312 BIG difference. John Williams' scores were composed SPECIFICALLY for the Star Wars Movies.. The use of Bizet's Carmen for a kids/teen movie about baseball was a daring, daring, undertaking. And they hit it out of the park...!!
I remember counting down the days until release in Spring 76. My sister and I were 10 and 12. We adored Tatum O’Neal. She won us over in Paper Moon. We love you all! You each contributed to your roles in a magical way for all of us kids! It was a great era to grow up in! 💯
These guys should be millionaires. They were so much kids of the mid/late 1970's, especially in Monroe, La. where freakin' Mickey Mantles brother coached little league a few seasons. Life seemed so deep down good & infinite. I'd give everything I own to go back to 1976.
thanx for sharing, this was great,...i was 6yrs old in 1976 when this came out and i was on a team just like the bears !!! one of my all time favorites to watch especially in summer.
I love this movie. I remember I was in High School when this came out. A student had some clips and showed them on a little tv in the library, secretly. I do not remember the format. I don't think VHS was there yet. I remembered the language. Sure heard those words before, but not in movies. Then in the 80's VHS came out. I rented a machine and tape of the movie, ( VCRs and tapes were expensive then). I loved that movie and still do. I could relate to it. I played little league in elementary and Jr. High. I could of been a Bears. I could play, but could look stupid sometimes. You know the throwing the ball and goes nowhere, sun in the eyes, etc. Then there were good times like The out of the field home runs, catching the high fly balls, and throwing to the bases to get the runner out. My favorites were, when someone known to knock the ball hard. I would just stand there with glove on my side. He would hit hard and the ball went straight for my glove. I then was getting a lot of praises for a great play, from both teams. All this before I knew the ball was in my glove
Even as a kid, I was bummed that we didn't get the original engelberg in breaking training. Also, buttermaker's line, so is murder, engelbeerg...is gold.
I grew up in the 1950's and 1960's. Respect and unguestioning obdience to authority figures ruled the roost. It cracked me up the way the kids talked back to authority figures. Tanner(Chris Barnes)told coach Buttermaker that he is a crud.
Kelly Leak got blown up by Dr, Manhattan. The first two movies will always be a part of my (and my son's) life. I still quote stuff from them all the time. The highlight of my youth was a trip to the Astrodome and Don F'N Sutton tossed me a ball.
I was 12 n 71- my first year n LL- pony league n 72/3- but n 73- i won all these ribbons running track 10.8 n 8th grade that i quit baseball ⚾️- well looking back i had a great time - RIP POPS- i tried to make u happy even when u weren’t
Miguel Aguilar was THE MAN! hahahahaa... I still remember how he would get up to bad and spit and then adjust his sleeve while timidly getting ready to get into his stance. (The one at the Houston Astrodome was great)
I was called Bad News Bears in Breaking Training. i like that more than the first one. So many good parts in that movíe. Didn't like the 3rd one where they go to Japan.
Back in 1976, I was 7 and my grandma took me to see this one at the local theater. Don't think grandma knew there'd be cuss words in this "kids" movie. Great memories!!
As a fan of this movie, I enjoyed visiting the field and seeing how it looks today. I was surprised that some of the houses behind it haven't changed a bit. My only complaint is that the field, as you can see here, is now a softball field, so it doesn't look like the baseball field it was in the movie.
Always chuckle when Boilermaker learns that he as the coach has to obtain the sponsor for the team to include their uniforms. Great choice going with Chico's Bail Bonds.
Story goes he grew a few inches taller and lost all his weight after the movie. And they said he looked nothing like his character. I know this because I literally just read it lol. Sucks for him.
Boo-boo. The Bears did not "lose". They won self respect, dignity, confidence, and magnificent memories that would last them a lifetime. As for not winning the final game, who cares? Such "victories", if they can be called that, are very fleeting affairs that are quickly forgotten. BAD NEWS BEARS FOREVER!!!😀😀😀
Most of all, they learned that winning isn’t everything. I’m sure they all went home happier that day than the Yankees did. It’s a beautiful message that gets lost in most sports films.
3:56 "Miguel AAguilar" ffs, you're a television personality in california and you can't even pronounce 'Aguilar" ?? and this is in los angeles, one of most competitive media markets on the planet
U mean Tatum O’Neal & Jackie Earle Haley? Both are big actors. Tatum was in a lot of things in the 80s. Jackie was big & sorta flatlined but then had a career resurgence.
These kids are portrayed as how kids actually act. They may drink, act violently, and yes may even use the N-word. Any online gaming interaction will tell you that kids use racial slurs all the time. That and many others represent how kids actually act. There is a reason that movies about kids that resonate over time are not ones made by Disney.
Isn't it a shame that this film will most likely be erased by the agenda of the far left? The second film, "Back in Training," is still my favorite. Kids taking control, taking a chance, and taking the game at the end! Great Americana film-making !!!
Rudy Stein is such an underrated character 😂
One of the great childhood memories on my youth.
Remember watching in theatres so vividly as if it was yesterday and that was 44 years ago.
For whatever reason I think of this movie everytime I see a Pizza Hut. Life was sooo good...then.

Classic flick, was playing Little League at Lunda Bay, Palos Verdes, CA.
*When this movie came out, I was playing in my 2nd year of 8-10 yr. old's little league baseball. A magical time!*
What really added to the movie was the soundtrack. They could've used something that catered more to kids, but they chose symphony compositions
and it makes it so that the film doesn't seem dated..the sequels to the bad news bears used rock that was contemporary to that day, it makes the movies seem so late '70s..whereas the original bad news bears seems more timeless...

Now that I'm all grown up, understanding their sponsor "chico's bail bonds" hilarious haha great movie a classic
Apparently, they were/are a real bail bonds' company.

It'd be nice to see them all together for an interview ⚾
One of the first movies I watched in the theaters as a kid. Love this film.
A girl I grew up with named her first son 'Tanner'. She was never a big baseball fan but loved the character. Tanner is now in college!
Even as a kid, I was bummed that we didn't get the original engelberg in breaking training.
Also, buttermaker's line, so is murder, engelbeerg...is gold.
it was a super cool movie for sure but it had the great Walter Matthau in it too which really helped!
What a great piece! Having the guys reprise some of their ballfield moments from the film was a hoot. Thank you, KTLA.
Great news segment. Great idea. News should do more segments like this segment.

I would have loved it if they had Tanner Boyle on that!!
he kinda disappeared years ago.
@Cary Groneveldt same
It will never happen. He wants nothing to do with the movie and gladly skipped out on the making of "Bears go to Japan".

What’s funny is that they never even mentioned Tatum O’Neal. Am surprised they even mentioned Walter Matthau…
chico's bail bonds
That was Wonderful Memories!
Great movie!
Breaking training was the best of the 3 movies, hands down. Mike Leak made a good addition to the team as head coach

I don't know what he talking about but I like him he Got Balls

I love this movie. It's not politically correct at all and those kids still went to bat for each other.

Dammit love this movie 🍿
Love that. Awesome.
I would love to see a 4th one/sequel.

Tanner Boyle????? Best character in the movie

Where is Tanner Boyle? Probably in jail.

Whatever happened to Jeffrey Louis Starr?
Awesome
I was there in spirit
My parents took me to see it in 1976. I love the first two, but the Japan movie had too much Tony Curtis and not enough of the boys.
