    Been on the lookout for this. Haven't listened to it for about 25 years. Ironically enough, I am firmly in the hairy faced man camp now 😂

      If I'm right, this version might have been the first audio recording of this I heard. Haven't heard this one for some years. Am also in the hairy faced camp, and have various physical issues, visual impairment being the main one among them, but, have always attempted to think good thoughts.

      @brianrunyon266 Naturally it's a kids book so there's supposed to be a moral in there, but thinking positive thoughts is one of the best morals to carry forward into adulthood. I tip my hat to you, sir. Keep fighting the good fight.

      Agreed. Fan of this recording, especially with added sound effects and music. One of his more obscure books, I think.

    I haven't heard this version of the audiobook since 2017 when I started grade 12. Yes, I'm an adult now, and I still love the story.

    I had this cassette as a child. I played it so much, I wore the tape out! Didn’t stop me from playing it while it squeaked away. I loved listening to this after about 25 years - thank you for uploading!

    This is a neat one! Nigel Lambert brought the DISGUSTING Mr. Twit to life in a DISGUSTINGLY brilliant way (which me me queasy to think what he was doing through those noises) and Jill Shilling was HIDEOUSLY excellent as Mrs. Twit. This was a faithful adaptation, but my only complaint is one scene they left out in which a group of boys sit on the tree to catch a glimpse of the monkeys and Mr. Twit tries to cook them for his dinner so to show how he stoops to killing not only animals but children too. One piece of criticism from the project is the editing, like how the music or nosies stop dead frequently, unlike the other RD dramatisations. I wasn't expecting the Role Poly Bird to be a female, but it was a nice surprise to show that characters can be interpreted in any way. A brilliant adaptation of the hilarious book.

    39:11 Oh bullshit, Mr. Twit is a liar. He was the one who yelled "We're upside down!" before, not Ms. Twit. She was only panicking because she thought that she was gonna die from being "upside down" with her husband. 😂

    • @TheMonkeyGrinder
      @TheMonkeyGrinder  2 года назад

      I guess they had to abridge it a bit so it didn't run on too long. The whole book is awesome though.

    No wonder kids have no limits as to what is crude and vulgar. This is truly sick and revolting and not worthy of Dahl's talents-- it's not funny, just twisted. There is so much better children's literature around that provides a better moral compass.

    • @TheMonkeyGrinder
      @TheMonkeyGrinder  Год назад +1

      I read this book as a child in the 80s and never felt that it was a lesson in what is acceptable behaviour, nor did I feel obliged to copy it. I think you've missed the point of the story.

      Kids these days love Minecraft and Roblox, and they turn into zombies at an early age. This is nothing in comparison to what kids can get up to without their parents even knowing it. Stories like this don't need the whole "think of the children" schpiel. I read this many times as a kid, and I turned out just fine.

      Well, that's Dahl's signature style in his books. He used a twisted sense of humor in them that made them entertaining. 🤷‍♀️

    • @CharlotteMacrickens
      @CharlotteMacrickens 4 месяца назад

      Uh first of all, there's nothing vulgar about this book. Second of all, twisted is something that Dahl had for his books for humor and that's what people liked about them.
