omg i had this very same version on casette tape as a child. now at 35 years old and decided to revisit it my childhood came flooding back. i am secretly glad i live alone though ahahhaha. brilliant find. i also had the matilda one you uploaded also.
Like Matilda, this is one I got bought during those days in hospital after my eye surgery. I particularly loved the settings the grand high witch's chant in this one, I used to know all of the words to "down with children, do them in, boil their bones and fry their skin!" and was majorly disappointed when it wasn't included in the fil. Thanks again for the good memories.
This for me is the best audio version of the witches. I have the Roald Dahl Theatre collection stories on tape. I have the BFG, The Witches, Danny Champion of The World and Matlida, and they are all brilliant. Bernard Cribbins plays the BFG in the Roald Dahl theatre collection, and is excellent, but my favourite version of the BFG is the animated film with David Jason doing the voice of the BFG. I am happy to have found this version of The Witches on RUclips as I don't have a cassette player anymore. This will always be my favourite version. I wish they would release the Roald Dal theatre collection versions on CD. I have a full cast version of The Witches on CD, but it's not the same version.
36:11 ... the subtitles makes a funny boo-boo. Though, I'm dealing with accent, I'm happily surprised to read it kept-up with the rolling 'R's of the Grand Witch's announcements.
The best adaptation of the book, too bad this was not used for an animated movie or a stop-motion film. Lorelei King's performance is amazing as the Grand High Witch, she's so far the best one to do the role properly according to the book.
Hi there, I have looked at a couple of Simon Callow tapes, but they were particularly overpriced! I will keep a look out in case a cheaper one shows up :) Some Simon Callow material is available on cd, in which case I generally only upload readings/dramatisations which have not been published on a digital format.
This is pretty rubbish to be honest. The witches sound like stereotypical fairytale witches, which is exactly the opposite of what the book says they are like. The 1989 Judy Bennett version is the best one.
This is the best recording for me!!! Thank you LOADS 😊

Me too! Strangely it was on 1 tape but came in a double cassette box.

This one used to terrify me as a small child trying to go to sleep ha ha still one of my favourites though.
Thanks for this one!!

0:30 This Music Is So Funky. Thanks A Lot Mate. X
Simply fantastic! Gov’na 👏
Fun fact: Vincent Marzello, the late husband of Lorelei King (The Grand High Witch) played Luke's (Boy's) father in the 1990 movie "The Witches".
That's awesome.
And from some research I've done online they both did the voice of Bob's parents in the US dub of Bob the Builder
Great quality, thanks for sharing!
No problem!
it is a good book
I played the part of Bruno in a play for a local theatre group - I gave him a Rik from the Young Ones voice :D

I really like this. Although i personally also love the audio book narrated by Simon Callo
This is excellent 👌

That would actually make a great animated film.
The only problem with this is that is abridged, that is material is left out, like the Grandmothers thumb
Can you upload 'The Witches' ready by Simon Callow?

The Monkey Grinder thank you
Did Christian Rodska's son Ben voice Jim Hawkins in Treasure Island?
For my Dutch pupils I am looking for the transcription of this audiobook to teach them English. Can someone help me find it?
Hi Jeroen, I will have a look around for you. I would write one myself, but it would take me far too long! MG
@@TheMonkeyGrinder hi MG. How nice of you! That would really be a great help and I hope you can find one.. Superb, thank you :-)
I got up to 18:15
Does anybody know who plays the grandma in this?
Where can I find the original audio with the narrator who king of sounded like horrid Henry?
I'm not sure if I am honest, I have only heard this version but I know there are likely to have been many different recordings made over the years.
Miranda Richardson. It's on iTunes.
Do it in 2x speed ..
