Bombers destroying themselves were a very real concern. Here in Canada, we had a local Lancaster pilot WW2 veteran who got awarded medals because he flew so low his plane was at risk of being destroyed by his own bombs.
Using some math and a lot of assumptions. It seems the lancanster would have to fly about 600m or ~2000ft from the detonation of the 12000lber for there to be a high risk of destroying the aircraft. Of course even if you're above this limit, it still wouldn't be pleasant to be in the aircraft when the shockwave hit and any imperfections in construction may result in destruction. At 3300m or ~10800ft there would still be violent shaking as described by that ww2 pilot.
Excellent video. I always enjoy AA vs Aircraft episodes, especially seeing Modern AAs Flex their muscles. May I reccomend a few ones? Unguided Helicopters vs WW2 AA (+ unguided post-war AA if the patrons want it). I would like to see how rank 1 AA would perform against starter Helis, rank 1+2 vs 9.3 BR Helis, and all WW2 AA vs top tier Helis. I am aware that some early Helis only have ATGMs and maybe rifle Cal MGs so ATGMs could be used within 1KM of the map edge. I would also like to see players relying only on tanks with roof MGs.

Basically all time periods of SPAA that don’t use SAM missiles is going to struggle because bombers can stay at a height that most SPAA machine guns or some cannons can’t reach

Modern air threats can fly on high altitude to avoid spaa. Strike drones can fly 5000-7000meters high while bombers typicaly fly 12000-15000meters high. Short range missiles cannot cover such high altitudes and modern sensors-guided bombs make sure you can strike from such altitude. The problem for the bombers is that they are very exposed to long range SAMs like the s300, s400 and Patriot. SPAA is still useful for self defense-point defense of high value targets. SPAA can also be used against helicopters, gliding munitions and cruise missiles which typicaly fly low to avoid long range SAMs. Without the good old SPAAs the long range SAMs are completely exposed.
Good day, Hm observations of the last round but if the Yakovlev Yak-28B Brewer had flown to 15000 metres there would've been a chance it would never had gotten shot down while yeeting it's FAB-3000 everywhere, Similar the The Republic F-105 Thunderchief might have had some success fooling the SPAAG/SAM's if they took chaff with them. A thing to note on the Blockbuster bomb is while the name holds true that it could completely destroy a block depending on the construction of said area, The real damaging part was the shockwave it caused resulting in heavily cracked infrastructure along with broken windows and destroyed roofs all of this goes in hand with incendiary weapons as example the fire bombing of Dresden with all the damage caused by the Blockbusters the incendiary bomblets would fall in place of the damage and burn the town houses from within... Sidenote since the update the Avro Cookiecaster losted it's ability to carry 2× cookies RIP, hopefully they're readded and or made into a ×3 bombload.
When I was playing the British firefly tank on that map where literally everything is destroyed (it has a park in the middle) I forgot the name, anyway i saw a pe8 coming my way and I took cover next to a dead prespawned tank and the bomb landed about 100ft from me, the other 2 firefly tanks dead and somehow I survived a 5000kg bomb at close ish range..
I'd of chosen the SPAA team. I'm very proficient with early game SPAA (up to about 6.0 BR), and it is quite evident to me that many of the players that ran SPAA in the first round were not. I would have probably gone with either the Russian Yag-10, or the British or French vehicles with 40mm Bofors. I think the biggest mistake I saw people make in that round was using self destroying rounds, as they (at least the German ones) mostly detonate at around 1600 meters, which is way too low for most of the bombers there.
Fighter bombers would have flown ahead and returned to the group for cover, faster and different bombing arcs made it hectic to try and shoot down Americans
