The perceived meaning of buckshot roulette: "Sometimes the risk isn't worth the reward"
The real meaning: "All Estonian developers are sadistic"
im ur 100th like!
Shotgun roulette’s death screen has got to be one that has filled me almost, omnipotently with a sense of dread.
It's Buckshot Roulette, not *Shotgun* Roulette.

'I LOVE backshot rou- I mean, Buckshot Roulette' LMAOOOOOO
my friend always spells it like tha 😭
I wouldn't mind the dealer backshouting me 😘
are you mentally ill@@no-kx6ld
no idea why the comment was removed but you are STILL, mentally ill@@no-kx6ld
42:09 something i noticed also is that the 'heaven' place looks like certain proposals for nuclear waste storage areas, the spikes as a way to universally warn of danger or death to any life who may discover it
Heaven is no longer a place of honor
Mike Klubnika and YMES are two horror devs who kill it lately with the vibes and proper terror buildup.
They don't do jumpscare fest, they build things up and either scare with world implications or with the sheer concepts of the material.
Also I love the lad who did the VA for Dealer in your vid- most would give Dealer some deep voice or crooked one, but making him softspoken is such a good choice
“You’re shipped off to the domain”

Danny Devito: JERSEY MIKES SUBS-
The best part has got to be when the final round starts, and you can no longer be revived after you lose.
Monochrome LCD adds this tranquil vibe to such a serious and intense scene, letting you know that someone is going to die, one way or the other, and they won't be coming back.
It's so cool noticing small details like round heads of Sentinels from the Core translate to Dealer's likeness in Buckshot Roulette, as well a guard in security room from Unsorted VHS having a pump shotgun near the desk.
That's a proper asset reuse any developer should consider, but also it gives thoughts about several of Mike's games being interconnected.
For example, Buckshot Roulette and Conrete Tremmors might be set in a virtual reality similar to Tartarus Engine or Infineural, explaining how those games keep going despite their participants dying in the process.
Didn't realise the guy who made Carbon Steel made Buckshot Roulette. I thought they were different creators, Thank god I watched.
interesting thing about concrete tremor: your opponent is actually cheating. he knows where all your buildings are and only misses 5 as a taunt to you. but if you replay several times, you'll realize your opponent's buildings are always in the same place. you can only win by cheating.
Dude, I absolutely LOVE Mike Klubnika's games. I've been a huge fan of him for ages, so I'm super happy to see him finally get the recognition he deserves!
had to pause my 9 hour long video to watch the new howard drop
super awesome ultra edit: it was BHultra
What were you watching?

Or maybe the sam and cat video essay by Quinton Reviews?
Wendigoon Conspiracy Theory Iceberg?
babe, wake up, there's a new howard vid...

new howard drop
Infineural concept really reminds me of the apple tv show "severence" either know where you're getting your money from, or life in ignorance of what your other self had to go through
It really reminds me of The Jaunt by Stephen King
A little off topic but the Who's Lila music gave me whiplash how fast i recognized it LMFAO you've gotta have great taste in games
wait until this guy stumbles upon the 1hr 30mins Who’s Lila video…
I felt like his name was familiar before with some of works but the one I could only remember was the cabin experiment. There's something about this dev's sense of style that just resonates with how my dreams look, kudos to you and him for keeping things intruiging
Never expected this impressive display of voice acting skill from people volunteering in a relatively small Vtuber's Discord. Seriously, pretty much all of them were so good!
Ok. A video essay at 2.00 am just when i am going through a tough time and i need good sleep... Hell yeah
Dunno whatever you're going through, but hope you're feeling better now!!
Damn I feel called out
Infineural reminds me of how neural networks are really trained - by humans sitting at computers labelling images. for big operations, the work is outsourced to people being paid very little money to do all the work.
might not have been what Mike was going for, but it's what i thought of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"There was nothing" *gets jumpscared*
I love this sort of existential-industrial grime horror, I've been playing his games since Outside and I loved his VHS collection
since carbon steel was released, i have been following mike klubnikas twitter and man i was shocked that buckshot roulette was a total banger
"Oh- Did he just put handcuffs on me? Didn't know he was freaky like tha--"
the bear trap bit in Unsorted VHS is probably a superstar cannibal shia leBeouf joke
damn, im only now realizing how many of these games ive seen played by ABG- didn't realize they were all the same guy!
oh damn! i didnt realize the same dev made the other side. i loved that game. im very excited to see what he does next
What a devilish strategy, making the player so slow they're not able to escape the huge spider monster.
I do find i kinda ironic talking about an underrated game dev exactly in the moment where he is starting to become not underrated
ok this video is really cool. not only is it talking about b̶a̶c̶k̶s̶h̶o̶t̶ buckshot roulette, it also shows and describes loads of cool games the same person made, that almost definitely did not get as much attention as they deserved. at this point you're just making videos of various video games and creators that I love, am interested in, or recently started playing which, excellent. looking forward to future videos :] also, side note, I know its a small thing, but you said ladies and gentlemen and everyone else, and as an 'everyone else', I just feel the need to point out that I love that, thank you. I'm never going to complain if someone says just ladies and gentlemen, its the regular, but people don't hear enough about how their actions affect others, and something most people would think about for less than a second meant a lot. thanks again, for this excellently crafted video :]
Another certified Howard banger (sidenote, really appreciated "arachnophobes beware" since basically no-one says that)
Enjoyed every second, especially last couple. And your pronunciation was spot on 😂
I don’t know if someone already wrote, but Mike is actually not Estonian but most likely Russian, or at least from the Commonwealth of Independent States, in his library of games you can find horror with a Soviet theme, and Klubnika translates as strawberry(клубника)
🫵😮 HE SAID IT
Infineual is basically an adaptation of The Jaunt by Stephen King. Love it.
Surprised For The Entity wasn't mentioned anywhere. Personally one of my favourites atmosphere wise, it invokes this great feeling of eeriness I don't know how to describe
This is the first video I watched from this channel and it is really good, nice job Howard.
Ngl, at the start of the video you sound different, but by the end you sound exactly like Sagan Hawkes, every time
Is the person who did the voice over for the Infineural section the same person who voiced Lila in Who's Lila? If not, they sound eerily similar to them.
A wonderful voice nonetheless!
Yes, it's the same person
Whoever did the lines @14:30 did a really fucking good job!
Infineural, concrete tremor and the other side are some of my favourite games from Mike, sure, they may be short, but they both feature some of my favourite elements in horror.
didn't know klubnika made "the other side", i KNEW that backshot roulette's "art style" felt extremely familiar
I didn't know Howard is back with another video. Ever since I've seen that We Happy Few video, I've been looking forward to more of these video game essays. It's always so well-made and entertaining to watch, even if they're long. When I watched the Who's Lila video, I never even noticed it was 2 hours long because I was too into it.
Thanks for making this video, I wanted to see his other games but don't really have the time (or the guts) to play them myself
Damn dude, Thanks for introducing me to this great dev!
29:38 V1 jumpscare
OMG, I literally was planning on doing a video about Mike Klubnika at the exact same time as you. I felt that more people need to know his name. I'm in love with his unsorted VHS game. It was fucking genius. Well..... you beat me to it.
Very quickly became one of my favourite video essayists! Keep it up, Howard! 😊
Damn this video is very good, came here for Buckshot Roulette but man is ways good to get to know the story of a great Horror Dev
Such a good video, didn't real the title properly so was pleasantly surprised when you talked about more than one game. So cool
I have to wonder if Carbon Steel had some influence on Home Safety Hotline's story with a mysterious third party who was an employee who worked there before you warning you of danger if you continue your job, though the ending where you choose to do your job correctly is more like the game over cutscene of HSH since you're actually in danger.
Man you make material real good and quality, also working with the discord. Simply great. I know the numbers may or may not look like it pays off but today me a random stranger you will probably never meet really aprecieated your videos, this one and the we happy view really made me get invested. So yeah thanks man and good luck
honestly i love the editing for these videos and i like hearing the voice actor from the who’s lila video again, it breaks more depth to the games and contrast to the amazing games mike made
Wonderful vid. Desperately wanna play some of these, especially the battle ship one. Great work.
Ima be real, I thought Buckshot Roulette was made by the same guy who made Inscryption
Pyrocynical was dev „inspired“ by this video
Pyrocynical copied you so that's how you know you're famous XD
It is possible for two people to make a video on the same subject without one copying the other. Is there explicit evidence of plagiarism?
@@domonichenning7262 maybe. SNIFF. maybe
My name is literally Howard lol. Nice to finally meet someone with the same name. Great video!
Absolutely dope video loved learning about this developers games!
The cabins immediately made me think of the quantum stuff in Outer Wilds, Carbon Steel and a lot of these games honestly have clear DNA from indie darlings from the last decade. That's not a complaint at all, I feel like game creation gets hamstrung a lot by how quickly games move and older games/gaming history not being taken into account much! These concepts are freshened up and used in a unique context but still pay clear homage to games that have worked well before them and I really hope more outsider/indie devs dig into art history in this way, even keeping games from a few years ago in mind can clearly sharpen up someone's creativity. Something something Le Guin's quote about people coming into genre without knowing it's traditions and thinking they're reinventing the wheel when they're actually making something very generic...
Would you do a video on zed_technician’s games? Their games are mostly short and the design of most characters might be off putting, but the charm comes from the execution of the fable like stories and the mundanity the supernatural threats are treated, A demon attack is not more dangerous than losing your job.
11:10 I don't think you've quite understood the situation being presented. Every single person in these cubicles is in "the same predicament you are in". The point of drinking the coffee is that _you forget what you went through afterwards_. The suffering still happened! You just forget about it afterwards!
It's very similar to a Stephen King short story called The Jaunt. "Longer than you think, dad! Longer than you think!"
25:56 literally the Black Mesa Transit System
am i going insane or is the cruelty squad main menu playing at 22:08
Anyone else notice the background music from where's Lila
I really hopes he sticks with Backso-I mean, Buckshot Roulette. Made me cackle when you said that. But a lot of his games seem to be made and then not updated. While Buckshot Roulette gained fame, and at least for a bit. I hope it's updated because it's such a well thought out battle system. I hope there's like an added story AS WELL AS multiplayer. Multiplayer Buckshot Roulette would be insane and I would legit buy the game if it was added. But yeah, not for too long because I don't want him to get tied down to just one idea and get burnt out.
The start is just what game development is.
I was first introduced to this dev by CJUGames when he played Tartarus Engine. I absolutely LOVE how creative his games are, and I’ve always been a fan of existential horror set in dystopian environments. Always looking forward to new games from him 😃
I LOVE UNSORTED HORROR IT IS SO GOOD
I was actually obsessed with carbon steel which is why I watched this video cause I love Mike so much. Buckshot roulette was a great game though!
god i love the music in buckshot roulette
21:53 PERFECT USE OF THE CRUELTY SQUAD MENU THEME
I’ve never even seen this channel before (spoiler alert: I’ve just subscribed) and this popped up in my recommends.
No ‘ragrets’, this video and whole channel is top drawer ❤️
Another great video Howard
9:29 emises blu!?
bro watched hbomber and had a change of heart 42:20 LOL. GREAT VIDEO !
“SHIBBY!” 😂 I don’t have discord but I watch that part
SHIBBY! 5:04 caught a shotgun shell in the face.... happens alot in mikes newest game
second most expensive game in their library:
**1 half dollar**
38:24 You do know if that was the only reason we'd just have skipped ahead, right?
I was along for the ride.
okay but why is the voice acting so good unironically
29:24 isn't that the Papers Please theme song?
Yes I also immediately recognized
You missed the slip of paper in the filing cabinets at the security room. It describes more anomalies. The cabin and The Looker are separate but connected? In The Cabin Anomaly there’s also a piece of paper on a wall with instructions on how to use the cabins safely.
Also that Dealer voice sounding kinda ho- [gets shot]
so did pyrocynical just straight up steal this
Basically, Pyro even follows him on twitter
Great video, although i wish you wouldve showcased more of the gameplay
I hasted almost 1 hour to refound this video and we'll it was better then the first time I saw it
'...with a narration that says - '... [ad] 'Sergei, it's not going to be too scary is it?'
Buckshot Roulette was far too expensive for most, but I am here to flex that I could afford such a steep cost for such a risky subject.
I want to see another game or someting in the Buckshot Roulette universe
A Welyn comment about cave anxiety getting highlighted for this video was a fun "hey! I know him" moment.
so glad Mike klubnika is getting the recognition he deserves
Honestly I don't know what to say other then this video rocks cheers to you and enjoy the engagement lol.
You should try voices of the void is one of the scariest games
Woo! New Howard vid lessgo
Mike Klubnika, his games are so rusty that i feel like i need 50 tetanus shots
I enjoy the inspiration from half life games mainly in the core it resembles heavily the architecture of the citadel from hl2 . And I love it :D
Dude, I would love to play buckshot roulette if it worked properly. They game engine they used barley works on some computers. It’s such a shame, as I love the game!
ohhh this is a new video
Infineural sounds like its based on the story "The Jaunt" by Stephen King, good horror short story read highly recommend.
12:00 reminds me of the time i was high as shit on ether and thought 2 years had gone by in my mind and i was back in the past
The beginning killed me lol, 😂
I think the irony of sarcastically say to not by if you can't afford it is I really can't
Cruelty Squad music mmmm
