  • City officials overwhelmingly approved the nearly $800 million plan to construct a soccer stadium and affordable housing across from Citi Field. Fans are thrilled, but some nearby business owners aren't. CBS New York's Steve Overmyer and Elle McLogan report.

Not really. They have been working to get a stadium deal done since 2013 when MLS announced the expansion of the 2nd MLS team in the NYC area. Team began play in 2015 and the stadium was supposed to ready by 2018. They tried to renovate Columbia University's Robert Kraft Stadium, but there wasnt enough parking. They tried to build on the old parking garages by Yankee Stadium and that deal fell through. They tried building on the UBS arena site but NYS chose the Islanders over NYCFC. This stadium isnt even capable to host the World Cup, Copa America, or any knockout stage game of the Gold Cup because of its lack of capacity. Its going to be a solid MLS stadium that will take some friendly matches away from Red Bull Arena.

I still want to know the definition of affordable housing 😂😂😂😂😂. But I do know it’s a scam, some places only require them to offer a limited number of affordable units that they get a voucher for in some cities. But generally none of today’s new developments are affordable to the average person. 3k-4k in New York 5k+ is not affordable.

And from all the taxpayer's money involved with Yankee Stadium and tax breaks at Madison Square Garden, our public libraries will look as good as this behemoth. Something to look forward to! Not really. The migrants are mostly from baseball loving spanish speaking countries. Soccer is typically played once a week like the NFL, so a home game every other week, however occasionally midweek matches are scheduled. Most of the other migrants that do come from soccer speaking countries tend to not watch nor care about MLS and will hang out in a bar watching their home league, or a league in Mexico or Europe. This stadium will mostly host fans of NYCFC who are usually at least 2nd or 3rd generations Americans, the national origin of those fans tend to be evenly mixed. @@dreamsroman
