- After the last autocross and experiencing a 2nd gear shift lockout.. 1st, 3rd and 5th gear were left feeling very vague in my 8th gen civic Si. Hangout with me while i figure out what went wrong.
Sick vid man. Underated
it has nothing to do with any mods, this is a well known issue of 8th gen civics for many years, issues had something to do with the cables and the plastic clips/holders. check the 8th gen forums. i’ve had this issue on my stock si for years. gentle shifting is an easy workaround.
Really cool video, very informative. My 1,3 and 5th gears having same issues you were having. I have some hybrid racing cables waiting to be installed on my 9th gen. Comforting to see cables fixed it. I also had acuity bushings installed and think they may have caused the issues I’m having shifting now. Oh well, live and learn.
Sweet civic man👍🏻
Glad i could help! And thank you
Finally finally found a video that actually helps me i have the same situation but mines is 2 4 6 n reverse 1 3 5 are great i just ordered a set of ktuned shifter cables too hopefully this fixes my issue i also run acuity bushings all on my 9th gen
Glad it could help!
I am trying to figure out if my cars shifter cable is done for. Time to watch this and do the same thing haha
Yea. Whoever installed those bushings messed up the cables. Same thing happened to a friend of mine. He installed the bushings without taking out the lock that holds the cable…
Yeah fair point, good to know
I installed the bushinging without taking the lock off too. I bent the cable….
Which lock?
The clip
Hi questions if u inside transmission don't have neutral what think problem
i,m finding it hard to get out of reverse gear, manual, honda civic type r any ideas please my friend
Lookin at my cables now as well, Sub’d!
Btw wish I had that kind of space! Inside garage and out! Or just one of the two! Hahaha. Nice!
Just wished you showed how to get it out without the muffler removed
i tried but had to do alot of gymnastics
dude this is exactly the same problem ive been having! I never realized i bent the cable
Glad i could help
Having this exact problem, I swapped the oem bushings with the acuity ones and literally the first drive it miss shifted 2,4,6 only when I drive it hard though, my cable was bent…
Oem bushings are definitely the way to go, several races since and zero problems
6 months into the acuity bushings, this exact problem finally happened. 2,4,6 for me.
Hi, I have an '11 Si red sedan, just like in the video. I recently had, according to my mechanic, a badly worn clutch pressure plate. The plate eventually failed again, according to the mechanic) and the repair was a EXEDY replacement clutch kit and a Luk clutch flywheel. After I got the car back, 1st gear grinds 50% of the time from start. 3rd gear grinds some into gear some, pops out at lower speed; downshifting to 3rd is usually a grind, while upshifting is fine at mid-higher RPM. 5th gear is fine unless I push the shifter into gear to far, then it's more challenging to pull to 6th.
The lower gears all work fine. Reverse is fine. Generally speaking, the car drives much better and the clutch engagement is much earlier.
The mechanic (who I trust, by the way) can't seem to determine what's wrong. He claims the shop redid the work, bled the necessary cylinders, checked cables, etc. and thinks it might be in the trans. However, he claimed to never know of issues with this trans. I have a loaner and he's not said much for 3 days. He promised to check around on options for the trans, including rebuild with a trans shop nearby.
Watching your video, seems like it could be cable? I'm really thinking cracking the trans open is not going to end up finding anything. Suggestions on what else it could be?
If the car didn't have these issues with shifting before the clutch job, the transmission is not the problem
Id be willing to bed its clutch pedal adjustment, ive had it fix gear lockouts for me on 8th gens.
I hope to do a video on the topic soon
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 thanks. The history on the car is the clutch link failed (cable or something from the clutch pedal) twice. This was years ago. I’m the second owner and wonder if the original owner did some mods at some point.
Appreciate it. This gives me something to give the shop to look at.
My cable snapped in the same place!!! I think it's a natural defect and not caused by the acuity bushing!
It's definitely a point of stress. In my case, i dont think the bushing being overly tight helped the situation
I mean they say very clearly in the instructions “DO NOT DAMAGE CABLE ENDS” lol they make specific tools for removing a bushing..jamming a screw driver in and digging the rubber out is not the way you wanna go🤷🏻♂️😂
Totally possible, i didnt install them as i said so who really knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No hate against the company, i have their shifter in my FB6 and its great..
These bushings just arent for me. The oem bushings are doing the job just fine
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 I only commented bc of how much I love mine lol I feel like that’s why they put the warning bc everyone gets their package in the mail and runs out to the car and just starts tearing stuff apart 😂😂
@AutoMATTic420 fair enough, your not wrong! 🤣
Chances are beneath the rubber gaitor the plastic conduit extends out a couple inches. People grip this part when removing the stubborn rubber bushings , and is easy to snap a piece off in the process, AND CAUSE A BEND in the cable. Because the gaitor hides the conduit you wont know. Until that is when you start selecting gears hard. At this point you will bend the wire towards the front, and you will continue to ham fist the gears unit it grabs and then yanks the plastic conduit completely;y out the rear end and destroy the cable---AND THATS WHEN you identify a problem with cables and blame the solid bushings....check under the gaITOR AND SEE IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU.
After i lunched the car in 1st gear it won't engage anymore.
At first it was locked out and later I could put it in first but it grind and pop out.
I replaced the bushings still same issue.
All gears engage smoothly except 1st.
Could it be sing of bent linkage cable ?
You probably need a new transmission
Nope....i know why, and i dont think its the bushings. Chances are beneath the rubber gaitor the plastic conduit extends out a couple inches. I have acuity bushings on my 9th gen and i have over 100k miles on them. Never gave me an issue. But i think its a 8th gen issue 😞
Hi Robert am just wonder which camera that you use please and good stuff tho
Go pro hero 8
👍
Do u think base bushings could've caused it also? My 3rd recently just went out
No i dont so
Any advise I have a 2011 si and just had a new clutch installed (I ate through my bearing and pressure plate) now just a handful of times while I’m driving my third gear pops out and then the other day my fifth gear did the same while driving. My mechanic was wondering if I needed my shifter cables adjusted just asking cause you seem to know what your doing.
That is an interesting one. Unfortunately, the cables in our cars are not adjustable
Id check and make sure the cables are seated in their brackets on the transmission, as they would have been off for the clutch job.
Barring that, im not to sure.
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 wanted to give you the update cause I thought it was funny. Took it back to my mechanic today and the whole time it was just a bolt that had fell right into that spot where I shift which was knocking it out of gear. The bolt was from the engine hoist that was holding my tranny during the job. Which is also why it was only the gears that were up and not the other gears that go the opposite direction.
@kellybard007 thats the best possible outcome! 😄
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 just subbed to your channel 😁
My car misses every gear above 6k rpm. Any ideas on what the issue could be? Clutch is not bad as it was replaced 40,000km ago.
When you misses do you mean it grinds? Or locks you out?
I would look into your clutch master cylinder adjustment. Also check the condition of your cables/bushings
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 it just locks me out until the rpm’s drop
@@robracesandrebuilds6499 and it happens like every time i try to do a pull in 1st,2nd or 3rd
@@ryleepowers i would start with cmc adjustment
