    12:14 - Run starting an efi bike.
    Having to touch the starter button on roll starts is a common EFI bike quirk. The ECU needs to know that you want it to start and needs to be 'woken'.
    The alternator will charge up the capacitor and the engine will start in the event of a flat battery.
    You need to get over your fear of the lack of a kick starter.
    I've owned two bikes now without a kick start including my new 300 SEF-R 6 DAYS Sherco and have never, in 340 hrs of riding, needed to kick start them.
    (you don't have a crank handle on your car, it's not required, same for the kick start) - unless it's an earlier KTM with the self destruct starter. 👍

      Other EFI equipped bikes "wake up" with movement. My '10 FE 450 Husaberg is like that. It bump starts just fine w/o having to tap the starter button.

    I've got a 2013 and it is so good. Better than any of the 4 ktms I had had at that point in both handling and power. Heard they have even more power now. Good bike go buy one you won't be disappointed.

    Great review on the Sherco. There's alot of great bikes many of us US guys are unaware of because they haven't really made alot of headway into the US market...yet
    I know you working on getting the Beta. Can't wait to get your take on it.
    so many times I hear you talk about shortcomings on other bikes. One of the things that sold me on the Beta was how well it was equipped. E start, kick backup, extra wide billet foot pegs, full factory F2F exhaust, billet triples, map switch, push button seat removal, rear fender grab handles, easy access battery and air filter, fully wired for street legal including horn minus plugging in the turn signals to the pre wired harness, and the list goes on..
    My only complaint, the seat is like a 2x6. but hey, it gave me more incentive to be up on the pegs like I should.
    Thanks for the awesome videos as always.

      I know. I feel very fortunate, i live near a former Husaberg dealer in Portland and an importer for Shercos in Bellevue WA. There is also a Beta importer here somewhere in either OR or WA. I have seen a Beta, rare birdy to see on the trail. I don't know if there is a GasGas or TM place around here.

    i have tried that bike here in mexico and the engine does feel pretty good with the power delivery ,i felt really good twisting the throttle and keeping it on the high revs.

    If you need full wrap enduro guards, (which I think would be good for the tight trail riding you do) I would highly recommend Cycra's probend handguards. I have these on my bike, and they are great. They'll save you many broken levers.

    BTW,
    The list is based on the 300rr race edition, it also has an easily adjustable power valve and sachs closed cartridge forks which felt very stiff at first but after 30 hrs they are awesome.
    Don't cut yourself short if you can at all avoid it, go for the race edition.
    If you can't find one local, message me and I'll get you my contact to the dealer I went through and got a great deal.

    I know there's a plethora of bikes on your list to hopefully work through, but take a look at the swm 300, speedy works bought the old husqvarna factory and are pumping out bikes much like the old husky's at a budget price.
    I don't think they're even being imported yet but an interesting bike.

    Regarding the Sherco's 260 wet weight vs the KTM XC's 235 wet weight, I wonder if a better comparison is a KTM XC-W (or EXC, in 2017-18). The Sherco 300SEF has the lights, wiring harness, and a 220 watt stator and that equates to weight. Take the 2017 KTM 250 EXC-F's dry weight of 236 (generous) pounds and add 15-pounds (two and a half gallons) of fuel and they'r in the same weight class (minus those silly KTM mirrors). At the same time, the Sherco will leave an EXC in its dust. Perhaps the Sherco is more like a bored and stroked and Euro mapped EXC (that actually turns).
    Weight wise, perhaps the more racy (non-lighted) Sherco 300 SCR would be a little closer to the XC-F ?

    While not sold on the idea of not having a back-up kicker (the current trend), if I were to purchase one, I would buy a rechargeable 12-volt lithium-ion back-up battery and carry it in my pack.

    I think the ignition circuit of the bike isn't energized till the starter is thumbed. Yamaha has a similar system on their YZ***FX bikes. Since there is no key or run/off switch, the ignition would always be on unless there was some system that turned it on or off in the ECU.

    Hey Kyle this is Rob from South Carolina actually just moved here from Southern California went from Desert to Woods riding big difference they don't have a KTM dealer up here so I had to drive to Georgia to get a KTM don't quite understand why they don't have a KTM dealer out here especially when you have all these Woods to ride him perfect for a KTM after watching your video on the Circo seems like a nice bike but I agree with you on these manufacturers not putting skid plate and not having a Kickstarter but both of my KTM that I've had have had kickstarter's I have a 2017 xc-w 250 by far the best bike I've ever owned went back to this two stroke after years of writing a four stroke and I would never go back to a four stroke still waiting to hear your opinion on the XC w250 you've done a lot of X sees but no X CW's after talking to several people I ended up going with the xc-w and one of those that I spoke to was Malcolm Smith Jr thanks for the great videos keep up the good work

    When your bump starting it if you bounce on the back of your seat as you release the clutch you’ll push you’re tire into the ground to give it traction to spin the motor over. I’ve had issues like that on a measly 125 and 150.

    Hey Kyle,,
    i am currently working with Clay to possible get a demo 2017 SEF-R 300 racing 4 stroke. How is the power delivery? is it like a light switch off and on in the tight technical stuff? or is it smooth, this is my main concern. i currently ride a Beta 300rr, and it's a awesome bike. i probably would keep both. how has the reliability been, and fuel mileage so far?

      10 lbs lighter with a full tank of fuel? I think you are getting wet weight (w/fuel) and dry weight mixed up.

    • @cadwarrior
      @cadwarrior 7 лет назад

      bhuizer5 dont think so, 2017 ktm 500exc is 109kg = 239.8pounds dry, add 10 pounds for the fuel = 250 pounds +/-, sherco is 260 pounds from Kyle measure, 260-250=10

    • @bhuizer5
      @bhuizer5 7 лет назад

      The KTM EXC only holds 10 lbs of fuel? We're grasping at straws here, just saying 10 lbs lighter for the 500 EXC is a stretch. I bet the 500 feels like a tank on the trail compared to the Sherco, that's a lot of bike.

    The sealed lead acid battery isn't a negative in my mind. I could lose the couple of pounds you save in a weekend of riding. The lithium batteries, while lighter and more powerful, need a special charger and don't perform in the cold weather. Lots of guys running lithium are kick starting their bikes in the frigid cold while folks running the good ol sealed lead acid just thumb the starter. About the only caveat is stay with yuasa brand batteries. They last many years compared to no name Chinese replacement batteries.

    • @madman432000
      @madman432000 7 лет назад +1

      Fireballsocal I used a lithium battery in the past and in temps under 40°f it would crank slow for a time or two then be normal. ie push button engine turns over a couple times, let up, wait 10 seconds and push it again and it would turn over a little easier, wait, then try again and it would start. usually only the first time in the morning. Flawless otherwise. That was a ktm 530exc.

    • @Fireballsocal
      @Fireballsocal 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, it's the cold the lithium doesn't like. In colder weather, they are even more temperamental I've heard.

    • @WholesaleTurbos
      @WholesaleTurbos 7 лет назад

      I charge mine with a normal charger. As long as its not on trickle charge you should be fine

    • @brianh8484
      @brianh8484 7 лет назад

      Fireballsocal can't remember where I read it but apparently you thumb the starter button on a cold morning and it will warm the battery (lithium) Wait for 30 secs then fire it up. I have earth X lithium and it has been flawless over 4 years.

    • @Fireballsocal
      @Fireballsocal 7 лет назад

      As I understand it, it's not the trickle charge that's the issue but the desulfation on many of the modern smart chargers designed for lead acid, coupled with the charging demands of lithium. The desulfation mode will damage the lithium ion, not a big deal if you are just using a dumb charger. Worse though is that lithium likes to be between 60% and 80% charged. A standard charger will try to top off the battery. A lithium charger will keep the lithium battery happy. Again, not a big deal for most riders as you have seen from your experience.

      I have been stranded with a bad battery twice on different bikes in the past. Once, on a cold morning, the bike wouldn’t start and we had to pull it with a tie down off the back of the truck since we were in sand making bump starting a cold 4 stroke bike almost impossible. I have also had friends in my group with bad electrical connections where the e-start wouldn’t work after they got dirty, while we are 50 miles away from the truck. On one ride without a kickstarter, two of us worked for 30 minutes to bump start a bike. Keep in mind that all of these bikes were less than 2 years old. I can see that the industry is moving this way, for various reasons. Part of it is that the bike manufacturers don’t realize how far away from civilization we are taking these bikes. We aren’t at the track just a block from the truck! I just think it is a mistake to remove them given the real world experience that I have had.

    "Yeah it's a paid review, I paid for it!!" Lol that's a great way of putting it.
    Up next, a Beta. 'Cause you haven't heard that enough already ;-)

      Unfortunately I haven't found the Race edition. I'll most likely start with the standard edition at this point.

    Man you should be sponsored by KTM by now! If I were you I'd try to get a serious bike brand sponsor that suits your riding, because YOU SELL BIKES plain and simple!

      They don't care about me. I have reached out to them. They don't care.

      Dang, that's just stupid. It wouldn't take much for them to give a little since they are getting alot from you already. That's just stingey of them.

      They only have so much money, so they sponsor racers at the highest levels of the sport. Despite that, they must realise that we are (35-60 year old men with disposable income) their bread and butter when it comes to sales. Maybe you'd have more luck with Yamaha or Honda. They're both literally 10x larger companies with image problems in the off-road space. I'd think Honda would be all over the family friendly, responsible riding stuff on your channel.
