My husband just asked if I'd heard from y'all?? Glad y'all ok, our town Elberton Ga took a hard hit with the wind we got 10 inches rain. Some still don't have power we was without power over 38hrs. I was well prepared with water drawn up in the bath tub and some for drinking and cooking with. We have a gas stove so cooking was easy and the 1st thing I done when power went out was cover our deep freezer with quilts and blankets to help hold in the cold and the food was still froze. My son had a tree fall on his house it busted out the bedroom window and glass went all over them they was still in bed. God was good because they didn't have a scratch on them.

As for septic tanks: don’t have a garbage disposal. Even though the scraps are ground up, they still create a pulp type material and that will plug the perforations in your leach lines sooner or later. I’ve had a septic tank for most of my 60 years and they can be amazingly trouble free or they can be a real drag to deal with, so you want to make sure you take care of them. A lot of people put down packets and such once a month that is supposed to help with the bacteria But I learned from an old friend to put a chicken skin down there. It does the same thing, and it cost you nothing! I’ve been doing it for years no problems! But I do grow my own meat birds, and then, as I can them or process them and I don’t use the skin. I freeze it in individual Ziploc, so I have one for every month of the year.

    crab apples with stems
    4 cups water
    1 cup sugar
1½ cup red hot cinnamon candies
    Directions
Pack the crab apples in sterilized jars.
Combine the water, sugar and candies in a saucepan and boil until candies are melted, then pour over apples.
Place the lids on the jars and screw tightly.
Place on a rack in a pot, deep enough to allow water to come to 2 inches above the jars tops, process in boiling water for 20 minutes.
Remove jars from water and cool away from drafts.

Speaking about Apples; have you ever sauteed Sliced onions and Apples together ? My late Friend used to make that sometimes in the late summer into the fall. He also had an Apple Orchard a d to keep them over the winter; would wrap each individually and set in a straw filled bushel basket in layers. Kept them down in the basement and they were Delicious !!
I had written down how he prepared those onions and Apples. Now I'd better just Google it. Seems he added a good Chicken Broth to the skillet and let it simmer.
Glad to see that between the two of you; things got done. Teamwork is a Blessing.

My heart breaks as word comes in that whole communities, and some towns are completely gone. Generations changed forever. To know that we are at sunday, and still in a rescue...not even recovery mode yet due to communities who still have not been reach just makes me cry. When the governor said catastrophic and biblical proportions. He did not lie. They are saying this has blown the 1916 flood out of the water.
We need prayers. So many missing still, and trapped with no water no power, no communication.

Glad y’all are ok…watched the girls “Live” a bit ago & they said the family was all ok..
It’s bad seeing the devastation in the mountains though, black mountain, Asheville area, so many small towns…chimney rock just destroyed..I’m praying for all the people affected by this horrific storm…y’all have a blessed week ❤

Everyone should wear protective gear when using a chainsaw. I live in WA state, and have a friend who was badly injured by a chainsaw while trimming a huge douglas fir. He was also a self-made type who was cautious, but didn't take safety seriously. It only takes one slip up. ❤

Hey Pressley clan, yeah, I felt y'alls love when Matt kicked the camera. I laughed out loud 🤣 I'm glad you fared well from the rain. I believe I heard 65 lives lost according to this morning news. My prayers go out to everybody. 🙏

You picked out the key to stamina in middle to advanced years-pacing. Go, rest, go rest. As my Papaw used to say, “Let’s set a minute, son, I need ta get my wind.”

I'm so glad to know that you all have made it through the storm okay. We had a lot of rain and wind here but nothing to complain about after seeing so many places where some people have lost everything. I pray for everyone who's been affected by this horrible storm. 🙏 It was so sweet watching you and Matt shake the tree to get you some crab apples. 😊 Stay safe. Sending blessings to you and all your family. 💗

Wow, glad you're okay. I've worked a lot the last few days and didn't have time to watch all the storm coverage. I heard it was going to hit Florida in the Gulf and y'all seem so far north of the coast that I didn't think about it being a possible danger to you. But I guess it was, and I'm glad you were kept safe. God bless!

Wow, I love this area of land and the folks who live there. We Appalcians are survivors, and what others consider "no way I'd do that" is just 'normal' to us. Peace to all of my Appalacians brothers and sisters and to all others.
