I saw him long ago. He came onstage complaining the other members of the band wouldn't let him drive the bus. He put on a great show. No fireworks, not smoke, special effects. he just sang one hit after another; had the crowd going.
Great interview ! Ronnie it has been over 50 years since I have seen you in a nightclub in Memphis. You always packed the house. I was always Thrilled to be in your presence. I was with Elvis when he recorded "In the Ghetto" at his friend's new studio called the American Sound Studio. I heard you mention Chip Mormon and Memphis and you brought back old memories...Thank God for your Talents...I am glad you had a chance to play with Elvis..He was such a good soul..You haven't changed a bit...Much Love....Live Long...
One of the greatest artists and performers of all times in my opinion. And I enjoy watching and listening to him in concert . Thank you for sharing this interview.
I read his biography he wrote around 1989. He lived in so-called poverty in a neatly-kept shack in the backwoods of North Carolina, but being raised by his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, who were hardworking, kept their home neat, tidy, and made the best of what they had, even with no running water and outhouses, something that didn’t stay forever, lived a comfortable life of early to bed, early to rise with chirping crickets and wild cats all around them, having fried chicken, pork loin, biscuits, sawmill gravy, grits, eggs, and fried apples for breakfast and reassuring, kind, and nonjudgmental grandparents and nowhere close to starving. They sent him to that school for the blind when he was 6 so he wouldn’t live a substandard life of nothing. I just wished his mother wasn’t the hot mess she was that berated him for something he had nothing control over. She died at 87 after multiple marriages, yet his father died from lung cancer at 51 from an extremely hard life of hard labor and heavy smoking, yet he always tried to do the right thing. His mother was a mean and nasty person that lived that long! His paternal grandmother was a fine lady that died at 56 from hard work. Only Homer lived the long life he deserved dying at 94.
To me, Ronnie is one of the greatest solo male country singers of all time. In the same league as: Willie Nelson, George Strait, George Jones, Hank Williams, Jr., Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, Don Williams, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Conway Twitty, Kenny Rogers, Eddie Rabbitt, Johnny Lee and Glen Campbell. Probably forgetting some others, but............

This man has more talent in his little pinky, than all these new punks put together. ie. Blake Shelton and Puke Bryan

What? No mention of Eddie Rabbitt regarding "Kentucky Rain" and particularly " Pure Love"?
Elvis: "Give me some more of that thunder on the keys, Milsap!"
Legend!
