My very first pointe shoe fitting is in two weeks! I'm so excited!!! I'm 32, I started ballet 8 months ago, with no prior experience. Around Christmas time both my teachers told me they thought I was ready to start pointe. I had been dancing only 6 months at that time. I waited a couple months to make my fitting appointment because I needed to save some money for them. I can't wait to see what shoes work for me. I have Egyptian feet, so figuring out the right padding to take pressure off my big toe will be necessary.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, and I'm genuinely sorry to give you the following information but I think it's madness for your teachers to put you on pointe so soon. Even if you used to dance when you were younger it's not likely that you have had enough time to built up enough strength or technique for pointe work. Especially when you're older you have to be extra careful -your body can't adapt to being on pointe the way a younger body can. Damage to the knees, lower back, ankles or feet is too easy to happen. Even if you are able to get onto pointe, your feet, ankles, legs and core haven't had enough time to develop the strength to support you safely while you are dancing on pointe. -It's awful if it's true but you may have been given very bad advice by your teachers. Check out Claudia's pre pointe tutorials. See how your technique compares. Maybe take an open class with a different teacher, see how that teacher assesses your strength. Just please mind yourself.
@@justme9818 My teachers actually told me that my body is strong enough, much stronger than some of the girls already en pointe. I am built very strong and I have very good balance. My technique is actually very far along for how long I have been dancing. I advanced very quickly and have good technique. Not only my teachers have commented on this, but other dancers at my studio, some who have been dancing for 50 years, have told me that they know people who have been dancing most of their lives that do not have the level of technique and natural ability that I have. My teachers are not sticking me in pointe shoes and starting me in the center. It will start with very short and basic barre exercises to help continue to improve my strength and balance. Once they are confident that I am ready to move into the center, that will be the next step. To be honest, I have seen countless adult beginners all over social media in pointe shoes WAY before they even have any technique what so ever. And that is irresponsible on the part of their teachers. I was determined not to go en pointe until I felt confident that my technique was ready, even if I was already physically ready. I have both physical strength and a good technical base. No, my technique is not perfect. But it is something that I will continue to work on and develop in flat shoes, as I also develop more strength and balance en pointe. Both will aid one another. The stronger I get from basic pointe work will help my technique, and improved technique will lend itself to future pointe work.
I will also add, I take five classes a week. And I am now taking intermediate classes as well. Back in the fall, when I'd only been dancing four months, I took a vacation from work and designed my own mini-intensive of sorts and took 13 classes over a 14 day period, with rest days interspersed. I have already been testing my abilities, strength, and stamina. And my teachers know to tell their students to slow down if they are having physical issues. My studio was designed for adult dancers, especially older women. We have a class called Gentle Ballet. It is designed with older women in mind. We have women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s in those classes. My main teacher, who is the owner of the studio, is well educated in anatomy, and is also certified in Essentrics. She is all about doing what is safe for your body.

@@justme9818 I got fitted today! Gaynor Mindens! They were the only ones that didn't put too much pressure on my big toes since I have Egyptian feet. My fitters were impressed with my strength, ability to get completely over the box with no trouble, and my knowledge about pointe shoes. One of them told me she has zero reservations about me being ready. She said she's had to have awkward conversations in the past with beginners who come in and are absolutely not ready and she won't sell them shoes. Woww, this was way more educational than I first thought! Before I wached this video I didn't expect to learn so much from someone else's fitting, but learned quite some things from it! Thank you so, so much for making this kind of video's!
I still wonder if the basic shape of the shank and box be 3D printed to suit each dancer in the hopes of making them last longer. Then they’d fit perfectly because they’d be customised.
Great video. The Grace shoes made a very strong impression right when you put them on. They were definitely the best for you!! Nice that you have a new kind of shoe in this new phase of your life.
@@wowwow8104 no they aren’t! They are just like other shoes, but they have special technologies that make them last much longer, and provide more shock absorption. I’ve never worn them, but they certainly aren’t a bad shoe.
Thank you for this video Claudia! So relatable/real & helpful! Karen is amazingly caring and knowledgeable: I’ve recently visited a rather larger dance retailer here in the states (Non-brand specific, carries many brand/products- to try out my fit re: Gaynors in a #5 box vs. my usual #4) and, sadly, though I ended up leaving with the perfect fit & my dream shoe, the fitter was very standoffish and posed no questions or observations/input: I felt like I was just stating aloud almost seemingly to myself what I liked and didn’t like about the two shoes and little to no input was given: that’s why I appreciate Karen’s care so much- a second opinion is always welcome & key, I believe. Either way, I ended up leaving with a new wardrobe of a few leotards, leggings, tights, and perfect fitting shoes & accessories! I ADORE this video! Lots of love to you always! 💕✨
my daughter just got fitted in Dramatica, she has always worn Heritage Bloch. We are having a problem with the heel popping off. We even moved the elastics as far back in a criss-cross form and they are still popping off. ANy suggestion? are running across this problem?
@@Lumadonajp I would, personally, recommend another fitting. I was fitted into Bloch Triomphe (a style only available in Europe. I don't personally like the Triomphe) twice. The heel was too wide for me. Bloch Hannah had the same problem and so did Gaynor Minden shoes I had. I am now in Bloch B-Morph and they are incredible on my feet. Your daughter and I have what's known as the diamond foot. She might also have a disappearing heel as I do as well. My heels look seem to be the same as my feet on flat but heel shrinks upon going up on pointe.
NataliaEnchantix yes !!! Her heel does seem to disappear when she relevés up to pointe. I find myself sewing the back of Heritage blocks always around the heel a bit because of this, so that it aesthetically makes the line of her foot and arch look good. Thank you 💜 I will look into those too B-morphs
@@Lumadonajp My Triomphes and Hannahs were the worst fitted pointe shoes in my dance history. Both had heels that were too wide for my feet. I have both a narrow and a disappearing heel! My feet are like this: 1. Normal arch with a very decent instep 2. Wide in the box, very narrow at the heel 3. Long (my feet are about the same size as Katie's -if you watch Kathryn Morgan-) 4. Tapered toes (well, they are in-between Giselle toes and Egyptian toes). 5. My feet and ankles are not the strongest. My feet are a nightmare for fitters. I love the B-Morphs. Aspiration were a great match for me as well. Heritage were a close second to B-Morphs in the shop as they fitted my feet well, but I could tell that the Heritage would be funny with the heel when dancing. I could always try Hannah Strong, but I am put off it as it was a nightmare shoe for me. I am looking into Russian Pointe too as I am interested in trying either Encore or Brava. However, I am pretty happy with the B-Morph so far (aside from the pressure on the big toe, which I can cope with by either putting in some lamb's wool or toe caps).
I wish we had a full Bloch or Capezio store in Perth. We have some great independent stores here but not many stock a big range for adults (as to be expected). I had to try three different stores with only 1 or 2 styles per store and the ones I ended up with don't really fit me still. I'd love to have a fitting with a full range available to see if I can get a better fit
The problem with my feet is that they are wide but they are very compressible so if I get a wider box I sink a lot. I’m currently wearing Russian pointe Rubin but they still feel odd. If anybody has any recommendations I would love to hear them because I’m really struggling to find my perfect shoe.
I have this same problem. Getting shoes wide enough for my feet means I sink so far in. My favopair ever was a pair of fuzi's I got on clearance for a musical. I needed "new" looking shoes and wouldn't really be wearing them much, so I took the risk on a pair of $25 shoes online. They are my holy grail shoe.
The Grace looked lovely. :) I used to wear Aspiration and loved those shoes. I reckon if I had to get pointe shoes tomorrow I would probably ask for Aspirations! haha! Great video, there is so much involved in fitting shoes.
I started to pick up Pointe again after a 6 month break and my new shoes are also Graces. I'm very happy with them and it's cool to see that we have the same shoe!!
Oooh I absolutely loved this video because I am going to be taking my pointe assessment very soon and have been watching so many of your pointe videos ! 💖💘💕💞💗
Hi I just got new pointe shoes yesterday and I’m now trying out heritage in 5 xx and there great I was gonna get grace but heritage was my first choice
Julija V hi, that’s jusst half size diferrence. As u can see, at the time she fitting with heritage 5,5 size, it’s look not really comfortable.and the fitting guide recommended her up to size 6. So i think jusst about her size, it doesnt mean that u have to change your size in grace bloch!!
One of the issues with bloch shoes that I've found is that they are all too boxy for me. I have very tapered toes but they may work a lot better for you
I have European balances and I like them a lot. It’s definitely a boxier box (if that makes sense) and they’re a higher profile shoe, but they’re also really easy to roll up and balance on (hence the name I guess)
dancing turtles yeah! I have long, wideish feet and longer toes, and they do a really great job. Of course, every foot is different, but this is my experience in them!
Thank you for asking so many questions about different types of feet and shoes. Make sure you get fitted dancers, and try on everything! I have hyper mobile feet and am in Aspirations right now. I'm sad to say I really, really don't like them. I can't wait to get refitted. My foot falls into the box, pushes too much at the toe, and the shoe didn't want to break in to my foot shape even though I shaped it several times. When I did break them in they were good for 1 class, and died, and I mean dead floppy shoes broken shank. The platform of the box is completely rounded from rolling over the front. I'm really hoping to try out something that will work better for me. Hyper mobile feet are great for pictures, but really hard to dance en pointe.
I’d recommend trying Russian Pointes! They have a ton of styles so they can fit a lot of different foot shapes, and they have REALLY strong shanks, which are great for hypermobile feet. They have light medium and hard for most of the shoes, but even the light ones are harder than a standard Bloch shoe. The boxes vary from each shoe but I’ve found that even the harder ones mold really well to your foot. They tend to be more tapered too which could help with the problem sinking into the box- I’ve found that Blochs tend to be the complete opposite- way too boxy- and that never worked for me, I always just fell right into them and it caused a lot of big toe pressure and subsequently scrunching and bunions.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't tried them yet because the shops around me don't carry them. But, I'll see if I can branch out and find a shop that does even if it's a few hours away.
I had an amazing fitting and tried like 30 shoes. I ended up with Gaynor, and Bloch Alphas. I'm trying both to see which I like better. My arch starts very low down on myfoot, so the liking how much support I'm getting from the Alpha, but I like the hardness of the box in the Gaynor for support. My feet hated the Russian Pointes, lol. But I did try them! Thanks
Biodegradable 1 oh yeah, Russians tend to break super high on the foot so a lower placed arch probably wouldn’t do too well! Glad you were able to find some that work for you!
Hi Claudia, I have heritage too! Can you tell me if the relevease technology shank is made traditional paste that will break down/continue to mold at 3/4 demi pointe, or is the relevease shank more similar to Gaynor Minden shoes where the roll up from demi is set?
Hi Claudia it would be great if you could give me some advice on my Bloch heritage. I started with the heritage, then went to the Merilla whisper but had trouble getting fully onto my box on second. Thank you so much and I love your videos and I love that your also an Aussie like me xx
Kate Elizabeth on the parts that die faster you can try to use shellac. Or you can see if you can get custom shoes: Bloch heritage with a stronger shank, or something along those lines
I'd advise trying out a couple more brands gaynors last forever if you find a pair that fit (they never did for me) so in a way that makes the higher price worth it since you'll buy less shoes. I wear Russian points and they are known for having very strong shanks and running narrow in their sizing and I find this to be true but they are beautiful shoes. I feel you on the shoe expenses, hope this was helpful.
I have stopped dancing for a while and am restarting, how would I know if I'm prepared to go en pointe again? Btw when she said sonata or sonata strong for arched feet I was like exactly that was what I used!
Hi. Claudia has a pre pointe tutorial. She gives really good tips for strengthening your feet and how to know when you're strong enough. There might even have been 2 tutorials on it... They're older posts, a few months back. Good luck!
@@justme9818 yeah it's just I'm trying to get some sense about what to expect going back. I kinda know I wouldn't be able to do those turns I was able to do right after I go back en pointe but not sure how I should start. i got some amelia soft bloch pointes, but thefitter in my town was not as serious as yours. he didnt look at my bare feet to see what kind of shoes i would need. is it normal that the pointe are uncomfortable when i wear them without going on pointe? ty :)
I tried the grace shoes the other day... I wanted them to fit me sooo bad! So pretty but way too much twist :( still haven't found my perfect pair. Happy I get the fun of more fittings though! Lol 😊 I smiled throughout this whole video love it!
For some reason when I arch my foot a lot I have this weird feeling on my feet and I can't move it unless I give it some more pressure....Weird..🤔 Does anyone have the same problem bc I wanna know what's wrong
Wise Girl I would ask your ballet teacher 🤔 But it’s most likely your pair of pointe shoes. Either they aren’t broken in to where you can manouver in them easily, or they just aren’t the right pair for you! I hope you figure out what’s wrong! Best of luck!
Claudia, I absolutely love listening to your accent (i hope i spelled it right, i hate spelling ;/)! I am american, so i have no accent what so ever but i just love yours!
How about very narrow and hyper mobile feet? Dosen't have to be Bloch. Right now I'm wearing Russian Pointe sapfir-v-cut in width 1. I have a problem finding shoes that are narrow enough 😅 Does anyone have any suggestions?
So I recently got a new pair of Pointe Shoes and I bought my ribbons there and they have a piece of elastic in the middle. I'm curious if I have to sew them a certain way or should I just do it the way I always do? I would appreciate to have your feedback
For me freed shoes died super fast but looked and felt great. Grishkos were very comfy but the boxes were too long for me personally. Both brands make really good shoes though. Just depends on the person

Yes! I’ve never had that in a pointe shoe fitting but I feel like it would be so helpful!

@@wowwow8104 no they aren’t! They are just like other shoes, but they have special technologies that make them last much longer, and provide more shock absorption. I’ve never worn them, but they certainly aren’t a bad shoe.
YAY Claudia got new pointe shoes!❤😄 We better see more pointe video now.
i wear grace's and they are the best!!! love you claudia
Fabulous video...your excitement reminds me of getting my first point shoes. So many more choices and options🎉🎉
Awesome video! I got my first pair of pointe shoes in November and they were Blochs, so this gave me a lot of good flashbacks!
I've been wearing Bloch Dramatica II. So far those were my favourites. I love the split sole and the strechy fabric.
my daughter just got fitted in Dramatica, she has always worn Heritage Bloch. We are having a problem with the heel popping off. We even moved the elastics as far back in a criss-cross form and they are still popping off. ANy suggestion? are running across this problem?
@@Lumadonajp
I would, personally, recommend another fitting.
Thank you 💜
I will look into those too B-morphs
@@Lumadonajp
My Triomphes and Hannahs were the worst fitted pointe shoes in my dance history. Both had heels that were too wide for my feet. I have both a narrow and a disappearing heel!
My feet are like this:
1. Normal arch with a very decent instep
2. Wide in the box, very narrow at the heel
3. Long (my feet are about the same size as Katie's -if you watch Kathryn Morgan-)
I was just fitted in Bloch Lisse 5.5 XXX! So cool to wear the same size 😆
Very interesting! Liked the idea of split sole pointes though unsure why you would have them. Glad Claudia went for Grace. Looked very lovely.
im getting pointe shoes in the fall! im sooo excited!!!
I just my first pair of pointe shoes today. This is a great video, I love your video's.
Anna Maeve I was meant to get mine today but my appointment got cancelled so it’s been moved to next Saturday.
Grace looks the best! Love this video
Could you explain what is consider a naturally good feet for dancing, I’m not a Ballettdancer, but I think it’s so interesting 🤔😊
Waiting for my pointe shoes to arrive! This is such a fun video to watch back
"Little hug mug". She is so sweet!
Love watching your videos your always so happy and bright
Hi Claudia! do you still wear the EPOs? Love your channel!♥︎
The problem with my feet is that they are wide but they are very compressible so if I get a wider box I sink a lot. I’m currently wearing Russian pointe Rubin but they still feel odd. If anybody has any recommendations I would love to hear them because I’m really struggling to find my perfect shoe.
dancer 44, one common shoe that my friends wear is the brand gaynor minden. It looks like they would work for a wider foot. Good luck!
I would recomend russian pointe bravas
Jet stream by Bloch (wide footed people unite lol)
The Grace looked lovely. :) I used to wear Aspiration and loved those shoes. I reckon if I had to get pointe shoes tomorrow I would probably ask for Aspirations! haha! Great video, there is so much involved in fitting shoes.
New pointe shoes! I always find this so exciting. I need to get new pointe shoes
I love this video, and your other videos always make me smile.
Your students are so lucky to have such a positive teacher. 🙂
Getting my first pointe shoes in a few weeks!
Edit: Thank you Claudia!
I started to pick up Pointe again after a 6 month break and my new shoes are also Graces. I'm very happy with them and it's cool to see that we have the same shoe!!
I wear European balance & love them!! :)
Same!
Hi Claudia thanks so much I am getting point shoes but can’t dance because I broke my arm and love the new name.
Love u Claudia and I also love Bloch too xx
Claudia, you have the same size of pointe shoes Haritage and Grace? Or maybe or they have a difference?
Thank you 🙏🏻
Julija V hi, that’s jusst half size diferrence. As u can see, at the time she fitting with heritage 5,5 size, it’s look not really comfortable.and the fitting guide recommended her up to size 6. So i think jusst about her size, it doesnt mean that u have to change your size in grace bloch!!
The Graces looked stunning!
Mirella whispers are the kind I have !!!
I personally love the way the whispers fit. They are my go to pair! 😃
I can only wear Gaynor Minden now
Claudia your feet were beautiful in EVERY pair! I do really love the Grace on you though!
ilyy so much caludia you are an inspiraton!
Do you recommend Bloch pointe shoes? I’ve been trying out different brands and I was going to try Bloch
One of the issues with bloch shoes that I've found is that they are all too boxy for me. I have very tapered toes but they may work a lot better for you
Bowa Wang thank u
I have European balances and I like them a lot. It’s definitely a boxier box (if that makes sense) and they’re a higher profile shoe, but they’re also really easy to roll up and balance on (hence the name I guess)
Katie Jones I’ve heard good things about those!
dancing turtles yeah!
I'm so exited for the summer as I am coming to your London summer intensive!! Can't wait to meet you 💗💕💗
Hi Claudia it would be great if you could give me some advice on my Bloch heritage. I started with the heritage, then went to the Merilla whisper but had trouble getting fully onto my box on second. Then went back to heritage and love them but they die so quickly. I’m now wearing Grishko dream pointe and still not loving them. I want to go back to heritage but I feel they die very quickly and I have to pay for all my own pointe shoes too. I have very narrow feet and in heritage I’m a 5 no x any advice for me? And also can you please do a video about ganyor mindens too because I’m also looking at those but are quite pricy. Thank you so much and I love your videos and I love that your also an Aussie like me xx
Kate Elizabeth on the parts that die faster you can try to use shellac. Or you can see if you can get custom shoes: Bloch heritage with a stronger shank, or something along those lines
Ziggy SJ thankyou I’ll look into the custom ones with a. Stronger shank x
Thank you!!! This was really helpful, I’m getting my first pair in 4 weeks💓
A great educational video Claudia thanks 😊 Karen was so cute as well! Just lovely x
I've watched her previous videos but they are more towards younger dancers just starting pointe, I am wondering what to expect as an adult?.
I got Grace too for my newest pair of pointe shoes too! I can’t wait to start using them!
i got some amelia soft bloch pointes, but thefitter in my town was not as serious as yours. he didnt look at my bare feet to see what kind of shoes i would need. is it normal that the pointe are uncomfortable when i wear them without going on pointe? ty :)
Love u Claudia ❤️
I tried the grace shoes the other day... I wanted them to fit me sooo bad! So pretty but way too much twist :( still haven't found my perfect pair. Happy I get the fun of more fittings though! Lol 😊 I smiled throughout this whole video love it!
I just love your channel 💕
I would love to see you try on different brands of shoes, to compare them to bloch
I get my pointe shoes in September, I’m very excited!!!!!
Claudia your my hero
Such a lovely woman, so knowledgeable.
It's now November 2019. You had another pointe shoe fitting.
OMG i just realized i wear the same EXACT pointes as Claudia!!!
Just ♡ this video! Are there any exercises to improve someone's arch? Yours is so pretty!
Your energy is just wonderful to watch :)
I cant wait to get my pointe shoesssss!!!! I’m getting fitted next year!!!!
I have the Mireille whisper currently. I loved the padding in the toe.
I’m here!!🤗 I love the accent.💙
Claudia, I absolutely love listening to your accent (i hope i spelled it right, i hate spelling ;/)! I am american, so i have no accent what so ever but i just love yours!
Ive been obsessed with your channel but i dont even dance but i wanna see if i can take classes it might be a little late but i just love your channel
How about very narrow and hyper mobile feet? Dosen't have to be Bloch. Right now I'm wearing Russian Pointe sapfir-v-cut in width 1. I have a problem finding shoes that are narrow enough 😅
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Try Merlet pointe shoes. They fit me with my narrow feet very well. Right now I have the Merlet N2
@@lisamaiwald1703 Thank you ❤️
Either a Russian Pointe or Grishko. They tend to be very hard shoes, so they'll support your feet more.
I just realized watching this for the second time that we we’re the same size in pointe shoes!!! Currently breaking in my brand new Bloch Graces.
The heritage fit the upper foot better but the rounded ones had a better box fit
Awesome!! 🩰💖🩰💖
Fascinating and educational video! What’s the clicking noise in the background?
0:13 I have that ballet book!😍
So I recently got a new pair of Pointe Shoes and I bought my ribbons there and they have a piece of elastic in the middle. I'm curious if I have to sew them a certain way or should I just do it the way I always do? I would appreciate to have your feedback
You should sew them so the elastic hits at your achilles tendon in the back. The elastic is there to decrease friction pain in that spot.
Did anybody get what model of split sole point shoe she was trying on?
Heritage over whisper.
Grace over heritage.
what was the third pair she tried on?? i really liked them but i didnt quite catch the name!
The Grace looks beautiful on your foot and made your leg look longer too! ❤️
Do you have experience with any other brands such as Grishko or Freed?
For me freed shoes died super fast but looked and felt great. Grishkos were very comfy but the boxes were too long for me personally. Both brands make really good shoes though. Just depends on the person
