  • If your fridge or refrigerator freezer is making a loud humming or rattling noise, this might actually be a pretty simple fix! In this video I explain what can cause this and how to fix it. Oftentimes this is caused by ice build-up around the fan in the freezer section. As long as you can get rid of that ice, most of the time that is all it takes to get rid of that loud noise.

Thanks so much for this video. I have the exact same fridge. The fan was making a lot of noise, and there were some other noises too. I removed the panel, exposing the evaporator coil, and let it sit for a couple of hours unplugged with the freezer door open. It worked like a charm. Everything's a lot quieter now. Thanks again!

Great video!!!!!! Fixed my humming noise almost immediately!!!!! I left my refrigerator plugged in, cleaned everything out, noticed the ice built up inside, and simply left the freezer door open.. once the ice began to thaw a bit (3 minutes later), the noise went away, and I was able to readjust the temperature gage to the *recommended* setting. It had been pushed to the coolest temp by the overcrowding of the freezer as mentioned. Thanks again!!

Solved my problem!! Thanks so much! I unplugged it then used a heat gun, emptied the ice tray and used a clean towel to soak up water and wipe everything down. It took about 15-20 minutes total. From emptying most of the freezer, defrosting ice maker and emptying some trapped cubes, then putting some things back. I have a side by side Frigidaire. This video saved me from having to call Lowes!

And then it started making a loud noise, bump into this video and I did the hair blow dryer method, ice melted and minutes and the fridge sounded normal again. Now I can enjoy my ice cream!!! 😋😋😋

The Hairdryer trick worked for me!!! Didnt uplug the fridge , just turned the setting inside fridge all the way off, so it stopped the fan from spinning. Emptied my freezer only, and used the hairdryer for about 10 minutes, thats all it took. do it just like the video says, it works. no need to defrost a whole day. its been a week now and no problems or loud fan noise.

The noise my fridge was making was super loud...I could hear it over my TV with the volume completely up...I did option #2 I put on a big sweater because I was going to be in front of the freezer for over 15 mins... I turned off the switch on the power box figured that would be safest and used my hair dryer on high heat for 15 mins....there was a huge puddle in the freezer about two inches tall so I'm glad he said something about a towel. After I turned the switch back on the noise was gone...I got to clean and reorganize my whole freezer
So happy I actually get to sleep tonight.... Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!!! I thought I was going to have to either ring a handyman or buy a new fridge! I just took everything out, and took off the back panel (easy, there were no screws) and chipped off a bit of ice. The fan started working normally after a minute of doing this, and I just put everything back and it is sooo quiet now! The reason the problem started is because I stuffed my freezer last night. Again, thank you!!! :)

Your model is same as mine. nice. I found that this video was helpful. My issue was same as yours. And I found that after I cleared away all the frozen goods and opened the panel, there wasn't any ice on mine either. But oddly enough, it was super silent when plugged the power back on. I figured it was quiet now because I removed all the stuff blocking the two vent openings at the bottom part of the panel. I figured the 'over stuffing' of freezer pushed all the goods to press against those 2 vent openings at the bottom and like a lung, if you have a hard time taking in air, you'll have to work harder to get it in. That was probably why my pump was running so loud. After I did the same of leaving space between the frozen goods and the back wall, my noise all went away. Now I have to find time to get some 'bumper gap' things made to all me to stuff my freezer without pushing into the vents...ironic. now that means my freezer space is ACTUALLY smaller than it is. Since you don't want to literally cover the bottom part. I figured some new plastic trays and a bumper would help me sort that out....hope that helps someone out there too.

First thing I was taught about any type of cooling chilling and freezing units. No mater what it is they need to be maintained. Cleaning the coils , condensing units Fans clear duck work and all vents. Keep them clean. If something fails or does not sound right don't ignore it. It will just lead to a bigger problem down the road... Great video my friend

Although my fridge wasn't over stuffed and nearly empty, this still helped and saved me so much trouble from having to call the matinence guy. I think it had something to do with me accidentally leaving the freezer door slightly opened while I was at work. Good Information Jay.
It is said that Cayenne can prevent a stroke.
Cayenne pepper can help in preventing heart attack and other heart disease as well

Oh yes! Thank you for mentioning that. Barbara mentions that a few times in her videos. Where she was able to stop a heart attack using cayenne pepper.

Oh, I just noticed this video....
    Ceyanne pepper 🌶️👍Good to know.
The only fridge problem I remember, was during the blizzard of 78 in Massachusetts.
The power went off and on quite a few times, ruining the fridge compressor. When we moved in
here, in Florida 10 years ago, the fridge that was here, stunk so bad, I went right down to Sears and got an LG. Biggest fridge we've ever had. The freezer is on the bottom, and the basket pulls
out for easy loading. After 10 years, I still can't hear it run...
Oh, but I don't care to look at
    my backside too much.....🤔😂

Thanks for stopping by Mr. Classic! Always good to have you 👍👍👍 Cayenne is really good stuff! Not just for wounds, it can prevent heart attacks as well.
Ah.. Death by power outages. They sure do take out many appliances.. Sorry to hear that it happened to you as well.
Lol, and not hearing your fridge for 10 years sounds amazing!! I love those really quite refrigerators 😄
I hope yours continues doing what it's doing for another 20 years!
