Fantastic! I'm a deathwatch player, I love the way you have painted these. RobPaintsModels has become one of my new favorite channels, I instant subscribed to you when you mentioned him. You give great advice and have a great edge highlighting style that we all can learn from
Hello Jarrett. Just wanted to thank you for your videos! You truly know how to paint and for me as a newbie it´s very helpful to see ¨how it´s done¨. Also, I consider getting a Deathwatch Kill Team and start to play... so twice as good for me. However, please don´t undermine your skills and value of these videos with your slightly negative attitude (e.g. ¨if you managed it this far¨). You are making great content so we will watch even an hour long videos ;)
Love that you are now using a wet palette (and the redgrass one to boot.) And Rob paints models, don't have enough good to say about him. Some of his techniques have become my go-to's (his decayed wood for the sepulchral guard, wowzers!)
Yep, agree re: RPM and I guess I just needed a really good wet palette to convert me over. I still tend to paint without using it but can see the benefit of reaching for it at times!
That silver...glad to hear it applies so we'll off of a brush! Now to experiment with how well it looks dirtied down with the earthshade gloss. At least in the shaded or underside areas. Thanks for the inspirations for my Derpwatch boys. As to your worries about the space wulf shoulders, I wouldn't worry about it. Spesh puppies are kinda like the black templars. There are so many 'hunts' rolling around that some variation isn't a lore sin.
6:30 As I watched you highlight the pouches, I had a thought: what if you loaded the brush with the highlight color, then a loaded just the tip with the mid-shade color? This way you can layer with the tip, then edge highlight with the same load. I would probably do this with matte type materials like cloths and leathers to let the highlight mix with the mid-shade, but probably not metallic surfaces to maintain the chapter contrast between the highlight and the base. I’ve never painted a miniature, but I’ve been watching hours of these videos in preparation for my first one…probably gonna prime a couple figures tonight and maybe even do a layer or two. I’m aiming for a demi-squad by the weekend, and the whole squad by Monday. Thanks for your video!! I don’t know if it’s just me, but the autofocus is a bit distracting. Is it possible to turn it off and try to keep the figure at the focal point? I end up counting the grooves in your finger… 😂
Yeah it took a long time to figure out staying in focus. I think in my more recent videos it is working better. Your question about loading the brush - there's an actual technique some people use that I believe is similar, although I've never been brave enough to try it.
its a bit hard to see what youre painting when your lighting is bad, and camera out of focus half the time. There are some really good techniques here that im completely unable to see due to these issues
beren yep, I know - I’ve changed my camera and light setup since this video and the tutorials are easier to see now (for the most part). I struggled for months trying to find a good setup to capture close up of the painting.
The off white is Menoth white highlight. I use the two on the paper.
ShadowCat doh, I misspoke! Thanks for catching my mistake!
Deathwatch Kill Team is my first purchase as I start to get into Warhammer 40k. This video is pure knowledge to me. Thanks!!!!!!

Thank you very much! Yeah I was quite inspired by his edge highlighting / Deathwatch video!

22:18 Thank you so much!
What paints did he use
17:31 It'S an Auspex Scanner. It lets them scan the Area Around them....a bit like in Aliens 2

@@TheMiniJunkie That’s the magic of being a noob… knowing nothing means you are tied to nothing. 😂
Experimenting shall commence!!
Great video! Did you sculpt those bases or did you pick them up somewhere?
Kevin Toole nope those are GW Necromunda bases :)
Just for future reference more light and a higher number F stop on your camera will keep it in focus overall abit more.
thank , thank you man..
what brush is that?
Maciej Winklas I think I use a number of different brushes in the video
i mean the one with the sharp tip for details :P
