      First Things First: Cris Carter and Nick Wright if you're telling me that getting DeRozan is a better package deal than getting Ingram, Kuzma and two first round pick from the Lakers, you're clearly on drugs. DeRozan is a good scorer, but he doesn't have another gear, he doesn't get better as the stage gets bigger, he instead shrinks in big moments.

    • @r.d.vaughan4541
      @r.d.vaughan4541 6 лет назад +1

      As far as I'm concerned this MUST be the plan (Lakers or Clippers) especially after at around the 5 min mark, finding out Leonard's people hadn't been contacted by the Raptors. I had assumed they had talk to him. If they hadn't then he's just a trading chip to start their rebuild (cap space, youth and picks), a year early and maybe a lot better off than waiting until next summer.
      At least that is what I'm hoping. Heck if they trade him and they sink in the standings as you'd expect then they played the Spurs for suckers as the protected 2019 1st round pick turns into two second round picks. The Raptors GM has been known to scam other GM's in his day.

    • @kevinwilliams9978

      Austin Neveau i know it was....but what if he was healthy? What if GS was healthy? The Raptors path to the Chip was very impressive but everybody knows GS wins when healthy no matter what. Denial of that just speaks to the unobjectivity of some fans probably including you too. If you think am wrong, imagine a fully healthy kawhi and Raptors team beating a fully healthy battle tested ( over the last years) GS team . Kawhi would be THE UNDISPUTED BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET and Toronto might be an all time great team ( for 1 year) as the 83' sixers. But you know why it didn't happen? Because GS was at least missing one or two starters each game of the finals and even some of the starters were hobbled too ( Cousins) ; so no matter what happened in the '19 finals, everything the Raptors could do with those circumstances will always have an Asterisk by its side like ( ironically) GS in '15 . But hey y'all got a Chip and it will always be like that in NBA HISTORY. Let's just move on from it.

    The Spurs could have signed him to a five-year designated veteran extension worth $221.3 million. That deal is gone now. The Raptors, his incumbent squad, can offer him a five-year, $189.7 million pact. The most another team (aka the Lakers) can give him is four years and $140.6 million.
    Use the Spurs' could-have-been offer as the baseline, and leaving for Los Angeles subtracts a grand total of one year and $80.7 million from his earning potential. Oof.

    In other word... today KL lost 80 million plus ... if he woulda stay quiet 🤫... at least the Laker resigning wouldn’t have been that bad, now in order to get max he has to sign for one year and resign ... and he knows that with his health history this is a major setback... tomorrow he can get an $500 million check for a shoe deal and put all of it in a bank account, he still is short $80 mill and to add insult to injury... this year now he is going from a NO tax state to : US expats living in Toronto find themselves having to file both US taxes as a US citizen, and Canadian taxes as a Canadian resident though. Living in Toronto is a great experience. ... Canadian federal income tax rates 33%. There is also a provincial income tax that varies from province to province.... so KL got played out of possible $100 million today... apple.news/AigAetoj4Qq-QsdNtcMUewQ

      Bill Williams you’re correct, $80 -$ 100 is generational money.... would you give the opportunity to set your family up for generations? Also ... everyone thought that he was gonna be traded to the Lakers or kept till free agency by going to raptors 2 team after original... $40 millions less ...is not about selling your soul is about risking a lot with an injury like he has right thigh tendinopathy.... let’s say that’s is a caree recurring injury ( not ending)... throughout the contract he’ll be a player who cannot play full seasons... when he has to resign... this $80-$100 will be missed...

    Bosh went to Miami to win championships.. period. DeMar woulda done the same thing in the same situation but he was not in the same situation. I will forever love DeMar and respect him greatly for the effort he put into repping that raps jersey. Him and Vince are by far my favourite Raptors of all time and DeMar loved this city. I understand why he is upset and I honestly don't know how to feel about it. He is the first jersey I ever bought, he got Toronto back on the map to be the top 3 teams in the east and is the first Allstar to resign. Wish him the best in life and hope he does well in SA. At the same time I'll be wearing that Leonard jersey praying he resigns next year.

    The trade makes sense for the Raptors. They weren't going to win as currently constituted, so now they have a chance to go deep into the playoffs. If Kawhi decides to leave, that leaves them a ton of free cap space to bring in new guys. This is assuming Kawhi does not intentionally sabotage the deal by claiming he is still hurt, thus failing his physical. I wouldn't put it past him to try something like that.

    the fact that Masai didnt trade any of toronto's top 4 youngest players (vanvleet, siakam, OG ANUNOBY, delon) whilst landing Kawhi + Green, makes Ujiri a LEGEND. Toronto STOLE Kawhi, arguably the best player in the East, a 2X DPOY, 2X ALLSTAR, 1X FINALS MVP (youngest player to do so in NBA history), and he has a championship ring. People forget that the last time he was healthy he was in discussion on who was the 2nd best player in the LEAGUE. PLUS a 3 and D guy in Danny Green who both have played for Greg's winning system. We can learn a lot from these 2. Obviously, a 1 year rental does not sit well for us Toronto fans but we could seriously make a push for the NBA Finals now that Lebron has left the east. From a business perspective,this was a brilliant move. We as Toronto fans must support Kawhi even if he does plan on leaving next year, we have 1 season to win Kawhi's heart, STAND UP CANADA!!! #WETHEKLAW

    Good analysis. Add to everything, if the Raptors get to the Finals (Leonard>DeRozan by factor of about 3), it's going to be emotionally hard for Leonard to leave. Carter, McGrady and Bosh were immature and not part of contending teams...
