There are actually quite few examples missing.. RECENTLY actually.. kyrie..again, to MAvs even though he wanted to go to lakers. And the grand example of all? Kawhi to Raptors (ironically he wanted to go to lakers also)
Here is what Chris Broussard is not understanding: Recent NBA history shows that players the caliber of Damian Lillard largely don't get sent to dysfunctional or rebuilding teams. A contending team believes a player like that can be the missing link to a championship, and a few times it has been the case. Using your examples, Kyrie Irving was traded from Brooklyn to Dallas, which went to the Western Conference finals the previous year. Kawhi Leonard got traded from San Antonio to Toronto, a perennial 50-game winner.
The day had finally come for Dame to request a trade. I’m wondering what’s in return for the teams that want him. Heat are most certain he could be traded to but other teams could be interested depending on what to give back. As soon as Jerami Grant signed that huge contract, Dame was like yeah I’m out.
Well Dame wanted them to resign Grant but he also wanted Draymond to sign with them. On top of that Dame didn’t want the Blazers to use their draft pick and instead trade it for another star. They only did 1 of 3 things he wanted. He knew they weren’t taking him serious and decided now was the time to dip

@robertoin7 "dame didn’t want portland to go from 13th to 1st." I noticed I didn't say that, so good strawman. I said "Can you name one player on the market that could have taken Portland from the third pick in the draft to a title contender in one year?" A title contender is a team that has a reasonable shot of doing more than just getting into the play-in or maybe a first-round exit. I also am waiting for you to name a player on the open market that Portland could have gotten with the No. 3 pick in the draft that could do it. "simply wanted a competitive roster he could take to the playoffs." This is the same player who is making $50 million per year, right? The same person who said he wanted Portland to re-sign Jerami Grant, and soon as Portland did, he announced he wanted a trade. So go ahead and name the player you think Portland could have gotten the Blazers from 13th in the West to the playoffs, given how Portland already is financially strapped without adding anyone. You don't go all the way over the cap even more with the hope of getting into the play-in, either.
Utah was a terrible example being that he went to college there and loves Utah and it has always been on his short list of franchises he wants to play for.
NO black nba players want to play in Utah 😂 stop it . Who in their right mind would choose Utah over Miami. What black super star athlete with millions of dollars wants to live in Utah? 😂 . You still have time to delete this stupid comment
Dame loves Utah but he also loves Portland. This trade for him isn't about the love of the city; he isn't saying "Trade me to a city that I have affection for." It's about a chance to win and with what Utah would have to give up for him, would put them no farther ahead of the pack than where he's been with Portland the last decade.

Broussard is right, Portland doesn’t owe Dame anything. With that said, Nick also has somewhat of a point but he went at it through the wrong angle. The reason Portland should send Dame to a destination he’d like to land at is because it’s good business. When a player of Dame’s caliber stays loyal to you, it’s only right to return the favor by sending him somewhere he’d like to go (assuming you at least get something of equal or almost equal value in return). It lets players know that Portland will take care of you if you do good by them. The reason this whole generation began of players requesting trades is because Lebron woke them all up. Players playing their heart out for a team just to have a team trade them without warning. Portland sending Dame somewhere he wants to be at is just a simple way of saying “Thank you for staying with us this whole time. Sorry we decided to rebuild, let us see if we can send you somewhere you’d like to be and if we can get something respectable in return, we’ll do you the solid.” But of course, it’s all business. That’s what Broussard was arguing. Business is business. Nick was trying to argue that morality shouldn’t be lost in business, he just didn’t know how to explain himself.
Chris’s point made sense when he first started then it yanked at the end because how does the blazers all of a sudden think about what’s best for the team when they didn’t build the best team possible while he went crazy for them since a rookie this is absurd
Nick: "This is one of those instances where I think we're arguing even though I think we actually might all agree." A succinct and precise description of the vast majority of sports media shows.
@@BlazerManiacNumber96 neither was Durant or Harden but they went where they wanted to go ...KD had just signed a 4 year deal with the Nets where is he at today hmmm
Chris Broussard legit doesn’t listen. Nick did not say they will go exactly where they want. He said SUPERSTARS DONT SAY “I DONT WANNA GO HERE” and the team trades them there. Legit don’t understand how Broussard doesn’t understand.
Kyrie wanted out of Boston before he unpacked all his bags and if you believe the rumors, Mitchell already wants out of Cleveland. I honestly don't think those were good examples as to why Dame would be happy with being traded to a place he doesn't want to play for.
Everybody? Yeah! Let's just give everyone a 1st place trophy too; no one should have favorites in a competition... lmao Just want everybody to win don't ya?
Brou, the answer to “why not?” Is because your team would like to have a superstar who is willing to play for you again in the next century. If the Blazers completely disrespect Dame’s wishes, no star player will ever sign a contract with them again.
Two of Utah's 2023 draft picks were listed out for the Summer League Debut in Salt Lake City! Utah can get Dame if they want him and still have another big move to make with their assets while keeping Lauri and Kessler. Utah is the frontrunner in the Lillard sweepstakes if they want to be.
Brou is 100% right. Nick’s point about an unhappy superstar has merit as to how that may play into the negotiations between potential teams but business is business and Portland ‘owes’ Dame absolutely nothing. I’m a Heat fan but reality is reality.
Nick literally killed Brou and Wildes arguments by simply asking “Gun to your head, where does Dame play next year?” The reason why everyone will say Miami is the only thing Nick was arguing but Broussard is dying to argue about minimum-wage workers and how they compare to NBA stars 😂
If they traded him for a place he didn’t want to go, that will be on the notes of every star when portland try to get them. They don’t talk about how that will damage the looks on portland blazzers association and I think any of those 3 should see that. No star will ever want to go there while that is remembered
Not only that but what about the future of the NBA stars. If they don't stay loyal to Dame as he did for them, players will note this particular time and make the decision to never be loyal to a team on how Portland didn't compensate Dame for staying loyal to them when he could've been left.
Yep, Dame is known for his loyalty, and if even with that reputation the Blazers still disrespect his wishes, no star player will sign a contract with the Blazers for the next 20 years (they’ll be stuck with the Jeremi Grant style overpaid deals).
@@BlazerManiacNumber96resigning drafted players will also be affected (the next “Dame” is watching this to see if re-signing with the team after their rookie deal is a good idea).
How? If the best offer from Miami is Tyler Herro and some pocket lint while Boston offers Jaylen Brown, you would be an idiot at Portland to not take Boston's offer. They gave Dame half a billion dollars already, they don't owe him dooming the team to mediocrity so dame gets to go where he wants to go. Get a haul for him from a competitive team and try again in a couple years. Heat have no draft picks to really offer and the best player you are getting back is Tyler Herro? Unless they decide Bam isn't untouchable, give me a break.
Yea the money doesn’t match I don’t think cus JB hasn’t had that huge extension yet so technically to make it work Boston would have to throw something else in which I’m sure they wouldn’t wanna do. If it was gonna happen they’d prolly wanna do it straight up player for player
We are talking about the Dame situation like he was just getting paid to be a good player. He was an icon in a terrible team, making them more maoney that he got paid, he didnt quit on them and stayed loyal, and it's only fair that the org owns some of it back. Brou is talking about this like he was Nurkic.
@@oreed8 and AD the lakers gave up a HUGE haul for him all of the examples nick gave are where the stars wanted to go to , the team also gave the best return
Right, but Pop and the Spurs felt slighted by the reluctancy shown by Kawhi, so it’s not the same situation. Dame has done everything under the sun to be supportive of Portland’s FO/be proud to wear their colors, so there’s more discussion for them to honor his wishes.
@@onidtubes that’s more on the Trail Blazers front office failing to build a quality roster for Dame than his play. Kawhi was drafted into a solid organization with a HOF coach, and multiple HOF players on the roster. Dame went to an NBA equivalent of a mom and pop store, and believed that the front office would do everything in their power to give him enough weapons to do something with, and they didn’t. His best costars was CJ who got traded a couple years back, and Jusuf Nurkic, who’s biggest spike in fame was getting dunked on by LeBron five years ago.
Nick casually forgetting that when Paul George asked for a trade from the Pacers to the Clippers, he was traded to OKC and even re-signed there. It wasn’t until Russ asked out and Kawhi wanted him to come join him in LA that he was traded again. But sure.
The argument is that superstar players rarely get traded to a team they *DONT WANT TO GO TO* so if George said “I do NOT want to play in OKC and THEN gets traded to OKC yeah you’ll have a point. You are actually delusional. This isn’t even an argument you guys just act like what’s being said is wrong. Two players out of dozens doesn’t invalidate the point.
Portland is trying to rebuild. They're limited in what they can get because they don't want to do Dame dirty. How about the Bucks offer Jrue and Middleton, and maybe a prospect like Beauchamp. They can then trade Jrue and Middleton to get more rebuild pieces than they would be able to get for Dame and can send them anywhere.
I agree with broussard actually. Dame has been loyal but only loyal to the fact he knew the money would keep being there. We've seen other stars/superstars at some points in their career to take some kind of a paycut to help their team win. Lebron in miami, Giannis 1st extension to help keep middleton, Dirk took a cut and won a ring the following year. The blazers management might not have made the right moves roster wise but they've been just as loyal in return money wise for dame while dame never budged ever. I say send him where you get the best deal.
The Spurs are interesting cause I think they can come up with a package that makes sense for Portland. I’d take Keldon Johnson for sure just cause he’s a 20pt scorer and could possibly be okay with leading the second unit in Portland. I’ll also take Jakob Poleti, Sochan, and some picks as well.
I'm always surprised when people don't bring up the fact that if u don't send a superstar to where he wants to go how do u think your going to sign any other superstar after they saw how the last superstar was treated. Like oh this last guy did everything you ever wanted him to do and the one thing he asks from u and u deny him that. Like that has to go through another players mind when he's thinking about signing there.
EXACTLY!! The Spurs are still in a free agency drought, because of Kawhi lol The Cavs and Jazz too, because of Kyrie and Donovan, respectively. The Jazz drought is just starting though
Broussard's analogy isn't apples to apples. He's saying when you work a normal job and I pay you, that's all the obligation I have to you. But what about if you did a great job and stayed during bad times despite being able to go elsewhere? Trading Dame elsewhere would be like bad mouthing him if another job called for a reference. Also, it's hard to compare because regular jobs don't "own your rights."
It's in Portland's interest to listen to Dame and send him to Miami due to the message it sends your young potential superstar who you just drafted. The example that the Lakers set when they gave Kobe a max contract after his achilles, knowing full-well, he's not going to bring a championship at that point, sends a message to superstars around the league that, "we take care of ours." If you're Portland and you don't listen to Dame, it sends a bad message to Scoot Henderson, who now is "MORE LIKELY" to leave first chance he gets.
I respect your take, however, players want their money. There’s no such thing as loyalty I sports between player and team. Loyalty is team and fans. The Lakers have always taken care of their iconic players, Kobe is the Lakers just from what he brought to the organization. Dame didn’t have to sign an extension last year. He wanted his money. Now he’ll have to deal with whatever team Portland agrees to trade him to. Unless I’m getting Bam in the trade, Miami’s package just isn’t strong enough.
@@traceytownsend7256 you speak no lies. But answer me this: if you send Dame to some washed team with no chance of winning, what goes through Scoot's mental process when his rookie contract is up? Should we not be planting the seeds of the future as well? I agree there's no such thing as loyalty between team and player and vice versa, but then as the team, if I'm demonstrating that we're "player-friendly", it is actually in your interest, the player, to stay with us, because the team's past actions spoke to you, "if we fail to set you up, we will do right by you." But I get you too, nothing is promised so sometimes it's just take what you can now.

I’d take Keldon Johnson for sure just cause he’s a 20pt scorer and could possibly be okay with leading the second unit in Portland. I’ll also take Jakob Poleti, Sochan, and some picks as well.
Poetl was traded last season and just resigned with Portland for 80 million
Nick made some great points 💯
I'm always surprised when people don't bring up the fact that if u don't send a superstar to where he wants to go how do u think your going to sign any other superstar after they saw how the last superstar was treated. Like oh this last guy did everything you ever wanted him to do and the one thing he asks from u and u deny him that. Like that has to go through another players mind when he's thinking about signing there.
EXACTLY!! The Spurs are still in a free agency drought, because of Kawhi lol
The Cavs and Jazz too, because of Kyrie and Donovan, respectively. The Jazz drought is just starting though
Please provide some examples.

SCENIC ROUTE!!!😂
