Remember when there was more to Ice Age than just character drama?

Out of all the things the Ice Age franchise has done over the years, nothing infuriates me more than what they did to Buck in collision course, I will never forgive them for that.

Julian is a moron, clash and eddy are very annoying. Buck was too over the top. God what happened to these characters are they on drugs or something...

Man it's really disappointing how badly they screwed up Buck in this. He was one of the funniest characters in the 3rd movie for me with his somewhat smart writing and interesting story with Rudy as a parody of Moby Dick. The fact that they were able to screw up such a great character despite already nailing him shows how far the series has fallen from grace.
Moby Dick.... Wow, I just realised the parallels. By the way, it's interesting that the marketing team for Collision Course was aware of Buck's popularity. They actually had Buck promote the film in the ads.

Out of all the things that ice age franchise has done over the years, nothing infuriates me more than what they did to Buck in collision course, I will never forgive blue sky for that.

At least Land Before Time has the decency to stay direct-to-DVD
And at least the LBT was a masterpiece, which sort of gave Universal an amazing excuse to keep going. Ice Age 1 was good, but by no means deserves to be milked like LBT

This franchise has jumped the fucking shark at this point. How could such a sweet, simple and heartwarming animation about a ragtag group of Ice Age mammals and a Neanderthal baby turn into a franchise that makes less and less sense as it goes on? HOW??

Ice Age (2002): Great
Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown: Good
Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Good

I know Rio 2 was flawed, but you done good with that? How'd you mess up this bad this time? You made a arguably decent sequel, and you made this? damn bums

yeah. peanuts and robots were amazing. more films like those please
wardnerwhite studios i'd say 7/10 for Rio 2 (that climax, various messy writing and Will I Am were too much for it to deserve an 8.) It at least the very least TRIED. It TRIED to be smart and expand the world and characters while throwing in new and interesting stuff. And it mostly succeeded. It TRIED to look nice and it's some of the most amazing animation ever even if it was paired with a bad story.
And It worked to NOT be MEET THE PARENTS all over again. It took all the shitty aspects of those shitty tropes that made MEET THE PARENTS a shitty movie, threw them out, and put in new writing that made the main relationship interesting, relatable and genuinely compelling if still predictable.
Ice Age on the other hand has just become Land before time franchise version two. It gave up after a surprising descent forte into sequels, but then jumped the track, and wasted every opportunity to get back on until everyone just said: "FUCK IT."

Ice Age is like the Scary Movie of animation, it had a great first film than went off the rail with the sequels. AND, its still making money.

I went to see it with my family and let me tell ya, I don't remember the last time I cringed so hard at a movie, I swear I was falling off of my seat. What's worst, at the end, my 12 year old brother asked me "wasn't it awesome?!" and I was like O_o.

Nat & Andy Honestly I feel bad for them, awesome talent wasted in money grabbing movies like Rio 2 and the Ice Age sequels.
Just remember that, the original Ice age film was going to be directed by the legendary Don Bluth. Think about that
One has to wonder what it would've been like...

Considering the series is now the new Land Before Time with all the sequels and pre-hostiric period it would have been very fitting if Bluth was involved.
It would've never taken off like it has now. Don Bluth takes all of his films seriously and prefers to make his stories more dramatic and down to earth than be more comedic.. Ice Age came out only a year after Shrek which launched the popularity of animated comedies. Ice Age would also likely be hand drawn and in the 2000s cgi was dominating.
Let's be glad Bluth retired because Ice Age would have been another Titan A.E.
Ice Age- Solid movie, funny how it sequel baits the 3rd and this movie without knowing it
The Meltdown- Has some issues, but it at least had a reason to exist since it's continuing the story and we learn more about the characters that actually amounts to something, cool villains
Dawn of the Dinosaurs- Again, continued the story and brought in Buck who was pretty cool and had a cool villain
Continental Drift- It's almost "The Meltdown" all over again
Collision Course- We're still on these movies? Don't worry Ice Age 6 will drive us into the ground even more

@@davidhileman8567 Yeah I heard, pretty upsetting, but it happens and I am glad the employees weren't laid off and instead absorbed into Disney's animation studios (if I recall correctly). And the franchise legacy will live on in that new show about Buck I suppose

And I TOTALLY knew the Ice Age series would eventually get it's first Seal Of Garbage. Honestly though, if Blue Sky still loves their Ice Age franchise so much, the LEAST they could do is just have Scrat remain as their mascot and *that's it.*
Jack Bointon Yes, Fox is pretty much the reason why Ice Age is still alive, but actually though, one of the directors stated that they still have ideas for more Ice Age movies.
In my opinion, if the series is to continue, the story arc should end in *this* movie, and Blue Sky should focus on *prequels* if they ever hope to return the franchise to form. My idea would be looking into the backstory of Manny, giving a full-on visual explanation of what's happened with him and his childhood family.
I could be wrong, though.

Ice Age already had a happy ending, and Dawn of the Dinosaurs had a decent ending. I never asked for more movies to make me forget my childhood.

I kinda called it too when he reacted to Blue Sky making a fifth "Ice Age" at the end of his "Rio 2" review. I don't know how "Ice Age: Continental Drift" missed the Seal of Garbage, though.

Literally the only reason I even watched this movie was because Simon Pegg is in it and I absolutely love him. But even a comedic genius couldn't save a movie with writing this terrible. The only good thing about this movie is that it was SO BAD that now there's no way I will put myself through the next one, even if they cast twenty Simon Peggs.

Probably the only one too, I'm sure Matt has some criticisms to give the other Blue sky films but at least they're not bad enough to get the seal of garbage.
What's so frustrating about Manny here is that at the end of the fourth film he lets Peaches do whatever she wants, only to resort back to keeping her from seeing the world and act even worse in this movie than at the start of the fourth. Talk about sheer reversion.

But never have I imagined that in the future, my mom would ask me several if I wanted to watched Ice Age 5 and my immediate answer would be,
"No!"
It's sad. Scrat was my childhood character and now they made him a complete mess.

Ice Age, a franchise that started with a nice story about a group of animals bonding while trying to save a little child, has now turned into an apocalyptic sci-fi action/romantic comedy hybrid that has introduced dinosaurs, Pirates, and immortality granted by magnets into its lore. I would say that Blue Sky jumped the shark but no. At this point, they are playing hop scotch on the shark!

Also, what is up with all the modern day references in this movie? Nothing in a movie like this is more distracting than weddings, statues of liberty, bars, Mariachi bands, and hashtags.
My opinion of the franchise:
Ice Age: Pretty heartwarming and my 3rd favorite.
Ice Age: Meltdown: 2nd Favorite and just as good as the first film
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Best one in the franchise tbh! :D

Ice Age: CC: Decent but could have done better. we already know why I'm watching this anyway. (Buck, Granny, and Scrat were the only characters to get a laugh out of me tbh)
And if they didn't use hashtag and pop culture jokes for this one, Collision course would have been a little better

I agree with your list. The third one is the best of the franchise.
Yeah, I'm sick of this franchise too, especially since ever since the third one, it's just been a slew of Loony Tunes-style jokes with somewhat serious stories thrown in. If they ever make a sixth one, which they most likely will, the only way I could see it being necessary is if they have the crew reunite with the human they saved from the first one. Seriously, we haven't seen in a human in this franchise since the first one. Where did they all go?
While Buck lost some of his more rounded out character portrayols in Ice Age 3, I still think he was the best character in this film, plus Simon Pegg is a riot to listen to.
Also, I like to think that Scrat is god in animal form who doesn't have a grasp in how to behave like an animal properly
At least Pegg was able to redeem himself with the movie Luck.

Instead of that pathetic excuse of a final movie we got, they could have brought the humans back and have them hunt down the heroes, when they are about to kill Mannys second family, their leader stops them and helps the heroes get away, revealing it was the baby human from the first time and he remembered them. Rounding the story up. Instead, spaceships and meteors I guess...
This movie will now be remembered as the true downfall of Blue Sky Studios.

I have an idea for the sixth one. They should just relive the events of first Ice Age movie and keep the main characters. What if they find another human baby and return it to his/her parents? Wouldn't that be cool if Blue Sky thought about it?

In fact better yet, the herd reunites with the humans with most of the herd meeting them for the first time especially Roshan who is now an adult. They should also add those emotional moments the first movie had but retain it’s humor and tone down the insanity.

such a shame because the animation of this movie is béautifull. that cave with gems is gorgeous and the colors are very atmospherical! It's just so wrong this is used for an ige age movie! completely agree.

the thing that i don't get is how the animals live. The first movie was actually realistic. It had the different animals living in packs, and generally in a natural way. Now the ANIMALS have weddings, parties, cristmas and even night bars. It makes no sense to me.
I don't have the heart to tell them they're already coming up with ideas for the sixth one.
Trust me most of us already figured that based on the overseas revenue.

Disney has bought Blue Sky, and they’re “making changes” to the studio. It is likely Ice Age is doomed.
I loved the first Ice Age film.
Ice Age 2 - 4 are serious animation guilty pleasures on my part. I can understand why they’re disliked, but I still kinda enjoy them.
But this....
THIS film is what drove the franchise to extinction for me.

The asteroid would not only destroy the reputation of the Ice Age franchise, it would also go and destroy EVERYTHING in its path. Not just the Ice Age reputation, but rather, the ENTIRE animation studio as well, known as Blue Sky Studios. Along with ALL of it’s future projects.

Ice Age is my guilty pleasure franchise. So I enjoyed this film, despite it's MANY flaws. And I really liked Buck in this, I don't know, I could just hear Simon Pegg's smile as he voiced him. I agree that Ice Age needs to go, but regardless I liked this film.

Five Nights at Freddy's has a similar problem. Unlike Ice Age, FNAF 5 just cancelled stuff that the previous FNAF told. FNAF story was completed since the fourth FNAF.

Ice Age is the 1st movie I remember EVER watching so I will always love the franchise as a whole. I adore the first two films. I liked three and four. I can agree that five was really bad.

I actually laughed quite a bit watching this... Not in a "Wow that was a funny joke" way but in a "What the hell am I watching kill me now" way.

Yeah, in all honesty, the "sequels" - starting with Meltdown - feel like a stealth 'soft reboot' becos nothing meaningful - the humans especially, Manny's grief, the reminder of Diego's pack, the necklace Runar gives to Manny - carries over into the sequels. IA1 was/is a dramedy. Its "sequels" are tonally off comedies that barely even try to pay homage to the "One that Started It All" and as a BIG Ice Age fan (of IA1 in particular) I have always found this very sucky. :(
This film actually came out earlier in Colombia when I was there, and the bunch of people at movies there lining up with kids to see this movie haunts me (even one of my teachers there were planning to see this if I didn't give her the heads up)

Sadly I heard the Co-Diracter saids they have ideas for a SIXTH movie! I really hope this movie bombs so bad that Fox will have no choice but to discontinue the series. It's seriously time to move on, and leave the series to rest with any dignity that it has left.

After watching ice age 6 I have hated this movie less from where i would say its a 5/10 i used to think its a 3/10 but ice age 6 just made it seem way better
I like this movie but ice age 6 was so bad it makes this movie look like The first film
Fun fact: one of the animators who worked on this film (Malerie Walters) later worked on Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen 2. So it's good to know that at least one of the animators here went on to do better work.

Actually, Blue Sky actually claimed to stop producing Ice Age after Ice Age 3. But Fox forced Blue Sky to make more Ice Age movies, because I believe Fox claimed they would buy Blue Sky, so that’s why Ice Age 4 and 5 exist, and Blue Sky was likely fed up with this, so they rushed Ice Age 4-5, so they can stick to their actual projects. Eventually, Fox was bought by Disney, then it was Blue Sky’s turn to die. Since Disney owns Blue Sky, Disney controls Ice Age now, thus the reason of Ice Age 6.

in blue sky’s defence, some of the employees said they didn’t wanna do anymore ice age films after dawn of the dinosaurs, but fox kept on pushing them to their limit and now we have continental drift and collision course
