    Just subscribed! I live in neighboring WI. We live on 80 acres in a 90 yr. old farmhouse. This property is old. but, unfortunately, had no established gardens. We added 8 gardens, so it is all new, and I don't really know what I'm doing! My husband did all the gardening in CA where we are from, he's too busy doing other things, so I thought I would give it a shot. I managed to give our home nice curb appeal. This property is farmed & we have a few steers, so I have collected a lot of antique farm items that I use to decorate with and also use for flower/plant containers. Great Haul!

    Keep an eye out for oversized bowls and serving trays. Some are perfect for a shallow bird bath. Also check chandeliers. You can pull the wiring and sockets then refit them for battery powered LED candles. You can paint them and then hang them from a tree over a table or seating area. Consider adding a mirror to an entry or other area. Mirrors add movement, expand a cramped space, and reflect the beauty of your garden. That is a plus when you have an outdoor dining table where some chairs face a wall instead of a pretty garden view.

    I grow Lammium(nettle) as you call it in zone 4/5. It loves shade. It grows all around the base of my spruce tree. It must love it there as it spreads like crazy. Beautiful two shades of pink. For the first time for my Hellebores to bloom. Dark red and pretty. It’s under the same tree, also many kinds of Hostas there too.

      Good to know, Judith. That is what I had read AFTER I purchased it, it is considered invasive, so I left it in the planters. I didn’t want a “Creeping Charlie” type plant taking over. I do like it and it is doing well in the planters even though it gets West sun in the afternoon.🌸🙂💚

    I love going along with you thrifting and to your garden centers. It would be nice if you could tell us the town and name of the shops you go to. Someday I might like to visit them. You have some very nice places to shop compared to where it live.

    Could you share what part of Illinois you’re in? Or the names of the thrift stores and some contact information for them. Thanks

    • @Michelleshomeandgarden
      @Michelleshomeandgarden  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Ruth I road trip all over so these are not in the same area. I normally drive to an area and Google “resale shops near me” then check them out or in the case of the first store just come across it. I didn’t even look up at the name… so busy looking at all the decor! lol… It was in Roseville same as the greenhouse!🙂💚🌸

      Sure is! It’s a thrift find that is really realistic and fills in for color! The garden house isn’t heated real flowers would not overwinter in it.😉🌸

    You don't give the prices on anything either in the thrift store or garden center. You go too fast. Making me nauseous.

    I have a hellebore ( Lenten rose) that is cream with a pale green center and it is beautiful BUT it is self seeding and it is everywhere. Reading about each plant will help you decide which plant is appropriate for you. They start blooming in January and they are gorgeous!

    • @Michelleshomeandgarden
      @Michelleshomeandgarden  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for the FYI!🙂 I will have to keep an eye on the self seeding.💚🌸
