Wow! Me and a friend were driving from Hattiesburg to New Orleans to party on a Saturday night listening to this game. I was in school at Southern Miss at the time. We could not believe the score of 3 - 0. Could barely make out what the announcers were saying as the crowd was frighteningly loud. I do remember them saying it was so foggy at one point that the other side of the field was obscured. When we got to New Orleans there were lots of rain soaked LSU fans in yellow ponchos on Canal St. Never will forget this game.

I was there. I was in the end zone and there were about 100 seats or so that were covered and we had 4. Thanks Daddy for the tickets. ROLL TIDE. LSU crossed the 50 yard line only 3 times.

I like the 1982 game myself. Bear Bryant losing to LSU, and he just couldn't bare it.

@@rolltide9547 Yea, and those 11 games didn't mean a damn thing in 1982. Alabuma still lost the game and the Bear still died. Saban wouldn't have won the first NC at Sabama if he hadn't gone to Louisiana to get players. Hell, if it wasn't for LSU and Louisiana high school players, we wouldn't even be talking about Nick Saban. He needed a school in a state where he could go out his back door and get great talent. Any coach who can get to LSU that can recruit and sign the best players from Louisiana can win NC's. That's what Saban knew which is why he went to LSU in the first place. If he hadn't gone to LSU first and made a name for himself he'd still be trying to get that first NC. And he still needs help from officials and the SEC office to win. ROFLMAO!!!

1979 Alabama is one of...if not the most overrated National Champions in history. Their 79 schedule was terrible soft. Included the likes of 4-6-1- Georgia Tech, 1-10 Vanderbilt,1-10 Wichita St. 0-10-1 Florida....and those teams were in the first 5 games! Later they played 5-6 Virginia Tech, 3-8 Miss. st and 5-6 Miami! That schedule ranked 66 or 68th out of 109 teams that year. They had great stats....especially on defense because of the crap teams they played. Back in 1979 the SEC was nowhere near the powerhouse conference it is today. Then in their bowl game the top four teams in the country were 11-0 Ohio st-11-0 Alabama 11-0 Florida st and 10-0-1 USC. Ohio st and USC met in the Rose Bowl do to contract obligations....and Bama was tied into the Sugar Bowl for the same reason. But Florida St back then was still an independent and could play in any Bowl game. It is a well known fact that the Sugar Bowl wanted them bad to match up with Bama. But behind the scenes there has been a lot of talk about Bear Bryant working his good ole boy magic with the Bowl officials. Behind the scenes he made the case that it would be better for business that the Orange Bowl take FSU in their home state. Of course that also meant that Alabama's new foe in the Sugar would be 8th ranked Arkansas....a team he knew his team matched up better against. Now maybe they could have beat FSU too....but I know that Bobby Bowden had a powerful passing game with two good QBs.....and that was not something you saw in the SEC back in those days. Bryant could never get away with those shenanigans today....but back then he was THE MASTER of Bowl game match-ups.

It was LSU's second 3-0 loss of the decade. The other one came at Notre Dame in 1970.
