This show was a jewel. I could imagine that the entire state of Alabama, getting home after church, eating Sunday dinner, and sitting down to watch this show. Just something to watch! Roll Tide!

It was a Sunday regularity with me and my father and brother. Bama wasn't on TV quite as much back then as they are now. But we would listen to the games on the radio being called by the great John Forney and sponsored by Ace hardware and Texaco. And then watch the highlights Sunday afternoon while coach Bryant talked about the game. Some of the best days of my life.

I was nine-years-old during the '73 season. And I watched the Bear Bryant show faithfully every Sunday afternoon. I miss those times so much. Yes Alabama was a championship program then as well but my family members that are going now were still with me at that time. I remember watching the sugar bowl at the end of that season which 'Bama lost by a point to Coach Parseghian's fighting Irish. I wept like a nine-year-old boy that I was. And even though we lost it was still one of the greatest hard-hitting games I have ever seen. It was right up there with watching the Raiders and the Steelers of that time play in title competition. Tough hard-nosed physical football the way it ought to be played.

Now you were bringing up Raiders/Steelers in N.F.L. For 5 successive seasons in 1970s those 2 teams faced each other in pl'yffs w/St'lrs c'mng out as winners in 3, those mtgs. in llnd season, 2, those in A.F.C. Ch'mpnshp Game in 1974-1975/1975-1976 seasons, back-to-back enroute to eventual Super Bowl victories

@MalcolmPusey-dc1ku l'm pretty sure he called that contest for ABC. And speaking, ABC, why do you suppose that "alphabet" network p'ssd up airing 1976 College F'tbll season's XVIIIth Astro-Bl'bnnt Bowl cl'ssc bet. Univ., Neb./Tex. Tech on Dec. 31, 1976 (Fri.-New Yr.'s Eve) as syndicated TVS n'twrk aired that game instead? Now that same XVIIIth Astro-Bl'bnnt Bowl cl'ssc on last day, historic Bi-Centennial yr., 1976 (12/31/1976-Fri.) could've been moved ahead from 8:00 PM (E.T.) to 3:15 PM (E.T.) w/ABC-TV Network starting its coverage, game at 3:15 PM (E.T., 2:15 PM, local time in Hou., Tex., where game was played in)

LSU fan here and I enjoyed watching this even though we lost. Wouldn't mind seeing the 1972 game between LSU & 'Bama if someone could post it. It was the same situation in both '72 & '73. Both teams unbeaten with the Tide ranked #2 and the Tigers ranked 6th or 7th at the start of both games.
