@@SomethingLT iv just started my own cacti farm and i found the best way to break inbetweens is with zapper, it breaks a strait line on the z axis 164 block, if it runs out of blocks on the z axis it moves -1 on the x axis then begins too break on the x axis, you can break all of the rows in about 2 hours, too break the just hold right click and point down while you stand on a block at the largest -z number side of the farm and start between 2 rows of cacti at the top layer. Amazing, I realized you can builders wand sand, but that solution is brilliant. As for the efficiency... I'm sure there are ways to make it work, at least by using teleport pads you should be able to cover more space, and possibly by string or pressure plates you could activate the redstone clock to work only at the spot you are right now, which would keep the usage or redstone low. It's probably limited by despawn time, number of teleport pads and again redstone. Good luck, this is my favorite project here and the progress is better than I'd imagine.

So there is a cactus war going on in the German community (orat least some people are still doing it) which got covered by Igobylotsofnames. They are useing a quickwarp system to get around their island. And if one of them is selling the cactus price drops into oblivion.

Your video gave me an idea, could you possibly dispense cactus from the top of the farm into the falling holes in order to "grab" the cactus that are nearby?
I'm quite sure he has considered that, it works on this merging-timer-reset thing, but every dispenser needs a clock, or some kind of regular activation, and that's more than double the dispensers required for the whole farm. It might be possible to use some multi layer setup where you recycle cacti from higher floors and dispense over lower floors, just to lower the losses, but again, regular activation is a nightmare. IMO farm of this size just needs a reliable collection, a way to load bigger parts of the farm, where you bring the efficiency of full area as high as possible. Should be doable with teleport pads, to "load" a 32x32 area, wait 3-4 seconds which is enough for max speed item collection and then load another part. This cannot cover everything, so it might be an option to consider dropping cactus as the last efficiency optimization system.

So, I tested a tripwire hooks idea (ruclips.net/video/3fGCQsKhrrI/видео.html), this is just proof of concept, the idea behind it is as follows: Use teleport pads to create 6 of these AFK pools (there is 12 tp pads limit per island, each needs two. In fact, you can create 7 pools by falling in the void and respawning to simulate extra pair of tp pads, if you really need it) While in afk pool, you are loading the 32x32 area, which speeds up transport of all items around. Since you can cover 7 areas, it's a total of 7x4 = 28 chunks. (Far from ehm 100 chunks, buuuut, close enough?) Now, I didn't see the collection system you are using, but I assume you just funnel all items in center, while hoping that the items from outside of the farm get merged with other and survive the despawn timer. In that case, creating multiple furnance centers to split up the travel distance would certainly lower the losses, literally just by using the above described system. Since you physically cannot load the full area with a single player within 30 seconds, the other option might be forcefully dropping extra cacti into the system, every few seconds, while chaining these drops, so that they can travel a huge distance outside of player radius.
replying to myself to continue, I've already tested dropping items to prolong despawn time. It works... you can have pressure plates on ice, which activate a dropper. However, I've also tested the speed of movement on packed ice. (5 block travel distance - 4 in water, 1x pressure plate, tested 12 times while standing over 25 blocks away. the result was 12.5s/5 blocks = 12 blocks in 30 seconds). It was pretty consistent, 12-13s time to travel, which was probably caused by dropper giving random speed and direction. The actual speed in water is higher, but I think you have to use pressure plates to active droppers, so this is more accurate for real application. This means you'd need a pressure plate/dropper at least every 12 blocks. If you are using a collection system which keeps in mind position of holes in ilmango farm design, you are using just lines/"pipes" instead of a big funnel - in that case (if I remember correctly) you have 3 blocks between these water lines, and it could be possible to merge 3 (or at least 2) lines together, to save on droppers required, therefor having a 11 (3+1+3+1+3) gap between these pipes, or a pipe every 12 blocks, meaning you'd need a dropper station every 12x12 blocks in 163x163 area, which is 177 stations, that consist at least of pressure plate, possibly tripwire hook (idk any other item detection), some redstone and 1 dropper, however, the dropper needs source of cacti. I don't think hypixel can take 177 such stations, when I get a 1-2% redstone usage with just one, however, it needs bigger scale testing. Also remember this considers only a third of water lines, so it's not going good. Second option is not detecting the cacti, but using a clock to drop cacti. This could perfectly be just redstone line to droppers activated by you going over tripwire. Not sure if hypixel can take this must redstone at once either. The issue with dropping cacti is how to get it. Third option would be actually collecting the cacti, then dispensing it, collecting again, dispensing and repeat. Use comparator to detect items in dropper, invert the signal to unlock hopper clock to dispense what's in dropper. Now after writing it I realized that you could maybe merge second and third option - collect a portion of the cacti for the despawn time resetting system solving cacti source problem. I think a combination of these solutions should reliably bring the efficiency up, at least using teleport pads to tp between 4 AFK pools (split the farm in 4 quadrants) should make 16 chunks work at full efficiency instead of just 4. if you happen to read through all that, just let me know if I can help in any way, I'm kinda bored of skyblock and this is finally something interesting

No, I dont think they fix. Half a year ago a german RUclipsr with over 1 million subscribers (Trymacs) built a giant cactus farm too. A lot of his fans started competing with him for the biggest farm, so I think they would have fixed it already. On the other hand, this building technique is revolutionairy and could lead to a much bigger raise of cactus farms
I think he didn't say why slabs are bad, just in his previous video he mentioned the design is inefficient. Slabs themselves are the reason why, items move very slow on slabs to make the ilmango design highly efficient. The issue with top slabs is also that builder's wand cannot place them, it only works on bottom slabs, you can try it yourself. (and that kinda makes building with top slabs impossible). Ice design is better, but there are still huge losses, which probably cannot be removed without use of multiple accounts. In fact, you'd need 25 players to keep the full farm loaded. The redstone cap is very low to work with on a full island scale, so unless there is a workaround, for minimal redstone use, this won't really work.

Wouldn't a design without the ice on every layer be way more efficient? You could place twice the cacti and items would merge a lot more often if there was only one ice layer at the bottom transporting the items
