    Man. It’s a close one but for me, I’m gonna have to get the Takara version. I love how he’s more real world accurate in the alt-mode because of the licensing from Toyota. I also love the cartoon accuracy of the robot mode. More accessories helps too. Great video. I just wish you put him side by side with MP-35 Grapple since they were best friends.

      Agreed. And the engineering to differentiate him from Trailbreaker is an added bonus.

    I've been waiting for this comparison! I think I'm going to pick up Takara's version. I avoided FT version because I don't like the fact that they used vac chrome for the legs and brushed chrome on the arms. If they had stuck with one type of chrome for both I would have most likely picked him up. Thanks for the comparison review Sony 👍🏾

    As for me, I actually think that the contest here isn't really as close as it tabulated out to be. But like you said sometimes it's subjective, and it's a question of what you actually prefer more over the other.
    The only thing I didn't like about the fans toys hoist was the floppy hips/thighs. That's the only thing that I would knock on the figure.
    To me I have a soft spot for Hoist because he was one of those few transformers that I bought for myself as a kid. I remember going to the local Toys r Us and getting him a long with my first G1 sideswipe. I don't remember if it was 84 or 86, but I remember it was June of that year that I got em. I remember distinctly because it was a few days before my cousins' birthday (because they're twins), & that was the first time that I saw the original poltergeist movie.
    So a lot of nostalgia and a lot of memories attached to the character because of that.
    I'm not so much into the tune look so I actually prefer the van toys for that reason, but that's kind of my take.

    I ultimately went with the Takara because I preferred the toon look over the hybrid of the Fanstoys. Great comparison!

    Love these versus videos. This was closer than I thought it would but FT clearly won the categories that focus on. Plus it might be my imagination but the Takara seems a bit smaller in both modes. Very fair breakdown as always.

    To me, the alternate face sculpt that comes with the Takara version looks like the face of photo used to reference the toon. The bridge of the nose, the shape of the eyes/visor and mask, along with the non-recessed peak on top of his head really stand out as direct reference to the toon model.

    Seeing them next to each other, I've got to say the Takara version absolutely nails the look, and the extra accessories are very cool. Once you get to posing them in other ways than the basic A-stance I slightly prefer the way the FT looks. It doesn't have any of the hollowness that the Takara unfortunately has, which certainly helps the FT.
    I own the FT, but now that I've seen your comparison I am tempted to get the Takara as well, the only thing that has me slightly concerned is the build quality. I feel like Takara's MPs have been feeling a bit flimsy lately (Jetfire was a notable exception, that one felt really good, although I stuck with FT's Phoenix in the end because I prefer the more heroic proportions on Jetfire).

    What an interesting comparison. I like the head in the Fans Toys' version more, since it's wider. The shade of the orange parts is also clearly more cartoon accurate in that version. In all other aspects, however, it looks like Takara Tomy's version is more accurate - for the robot mode, that is. The way I see it, Fans Toys once again has more accurate proportions for the car mode.
    Unfortunately, that one has always looked too "heroic" to me. Takara Tomy's version has more of Hoist's clunky design, and I don't even mind the lack of the waist swivel in this case. So it might look good enough for my collection, but I am a little disappointed in the car mode. Maybe I wait for the knock-off version and buy that.

    The forward leg movement joint on Takara reminds me of the TW/Zeta Coneheads. I remember people criticizing it on them, though I believe part of it was because it was loose and not the primary hip joint for forward movement. I guess for TW it was a double jointed hip.

    These two and toon XTB, you really can’t go wrong. I have Takara and XTB toon, I don’t have FT, but it’s very nice… the mould might be the best of the 3, but I don’t like the chrome bits so unless they do a Tn version I’ll stick with the 2 I have.

    I will go for the Fanstoys Hoist- however if Takara hoist gets knocked-off with same kind of quality of the KO Trailbreaker and a similar price- them i'm in for one of those. Added diecast, improvements--hell yeah.

  • @lanoche

    I paid like $96 Canadian for my Official Hoist and with the shipping and import taxes from Amazon Japan was just under $165, while FT would cost an arm and a leg nowadays. The official wins for me in that aspect alone. Also I really like the car and robot mode for the official Hoist and I already do have the official Trailbreaker so it should pair well with him.

    "more mature"
    One thing I don't understand in your verses is why you do the cartoon accuracy part.
    I like cartoon netracy myself but a ton of people don't care so it's almost like why I hold that against it. 9 times out of 10, Hasbro and takara are going to go for it hardcore tune accuracy over third party since they still try not to be sued most of the time.

    Great video comparison. For me, it's Takara Tomy for the win as it's more toon accurate and it's endorsed by Toyota thus making the vehicle mode very authentic. I just wish they would start using better materials and rubber tires instead of cheaping out with cheaper plastic and less paint but still charging premium prices. I'll be skipping Hoist as he was never a favorite of mine.

  • @geraldtherat618

    I went with fanstoys because i could get it for much less, it’s not hollow and painted & built better. But takara definitely has a much better alt mode.

  • @Andulvar
    @Andulvar 5 месяцев назад

    Animation accuracy isn't always best since they tried to base it off the figures which can hurt a figures design when bought to the real world. I prefer Hoist having an actual waste because than his range of movement makes sense. The chrome on the legs on the Fantsoys release is from the toy.
    Personally the last non Beast Wars MP figure I liked from Takara Tomy was their Megatron.

  • @pandamant666
    @pandamant666 6 месяцев назад +1

    Takara is too slim, so that the legs looks long. I think Ft body proportion is better, although I think XTB has the best body proportion. I purchase my transformers toys from China, and within just 1 week, MP-58 price has been dropped around 40-50usd already 😅, I’m waiting for it to drop more and get it with a reasonable price. I have a friend who owns XTB FT and MP, and he told me XTB is the best version in his choice, and he gets all the MP figures mainly cuz it’s official

    The Takara version really seems more like an upscale CHUG, and a good example of where the sculpt is too toon accurate for me. He looks goofy and kinda cheap. Been looking forward to this vs. Thanks Sony. Gave this release a miss. I have my FTs in all mode, and my MMC in bot mode.

      I think takara is STEALING IDEAS FROM THIRD PARTIES. That is Why the keep producing MPs that are already over saturated in the market....and we have seen PROOF of this in later designs, that Takara is taking engineering ideas from xtransbots, fanstoys, CG and mastermind Creations.

  • @TheShadowKarl
    @TheShadowKarl 6 месяцев назад

    I think you were being too generous on Takara on Alt mode. So much extra stuff is under the truck that we can see between the wheels that is NOT accurate to the cartoon or the actual truck that it really detracts from what it is supposed to look like. From many angles you can't see any extra bits below the truck body underneath the vehicle. Also the orange FansToys used for both Bot and Alt mode is way more of a match to the color of the cartoon.

  • @SlowQQSlow

    Why does the takara in your review looks so yellow? Other reviews look orange. The fans toys look orange, so that rules out the camera setting.

    • @TMReviews
      @TMReviews  6 месяцев назад

      Because by comparison with the FansToys, it is not as orange. It's only when you have both on screen that it looks like that, eye trick

  • @cameronmoriarty3313

    I hadn't really looked at Takara too closely before, it just looks too skinny. The head, body, the arms (both the arms themselves and the panels behind them), the wings all look too skinny for Hoist. The body at least has the excuse of having to match the Toyota's dimensions in alt mode (if someone cares about that), but the arms and wings don't.

    Truthfully, takara is getting sloppy on what they consider a "masterpiece".
