    Note about the recordings here- these are live recitals played in a department store with the public present. They are recordings on my cell phone and not professional quality. They are meant to capture a moment in real life in the store and not meant to be professional studio quality recordings. Enjoy!

    I love hearing the old time hymns on the Wanamaker. What an amazing instrument being used to bring glory to the father!

    Beautiful....my mother passed away in August of 2017 after a severe stroke. My mom had a minor stroke on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 after leaving church and attending her friend Carol's retirement celebration. Carol was our church's organist who was retiring after 30 years. To honor my mom, Carol played the organ one last time.....at my mother memorial service. This is one of the songs that was played because it was one of my mother's favorite hymns.

    I have heard this Hymn many times over the years, but this, without a doubt, is the absolute, greatest performance. I am glad I found this & will listen to it often. Thanks for doing this on the grand Wanamaker Organ. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

      +Bruce Butler I've been playing Amazing Grace, My Shepherd Shall Supply My Need, and also spirituals like Deep River and Were You There? I'll be taping those soon and uploading here if I get a good take. Thanks for your comment!

      It would be nice to hear "Holy God, we praise Thy name" (Grosser Gott, wir loben dich) on this organ too!

    I'm a 72 year old organist..and no matter what style music I play... or hear someone else play... I much prefer hearing the feeling of the organist and the ranging majesty of the instrument.... Not stiff relegated time and tone. You can tell he feels the piece, and as I, probably never plays it exactly the same way twice. As a lady came up to me and said she told her sister after I had subbed on Sunday for their church..."I told my Sister, HE's not afraid of that organ.!!"
    Such is my remark to this gentleman... a large organ can sometimes be intemedating to sit down to....but in actuallity ...are easier to play with rewarding results. I wish we could have heard this in it's full tonal structure.
    Good for you..🙂..👍👍

    Keep Up The Excellent Work! The moving performances are excellent! I love the spirituals! Another song I like is How Great Thou Art arr. Dan Miller it really showcases the High Pressured Reeds and Trumpets!

    It’s interesting, I was out in Sept 2018 for first visit and was there several times to catch the recitals. Also made a trip to Midmer Losh. I ran into one of the Wanamaker curators standing down near the jewelry counter and he saw me using my handheld audio device to record. He then said to be sure not to post them online.

    Those theatre organs can really sound like an orchestra and not a pipe organ, hard to believe it's organ pipes being heard.

    • @RobertZat
      @RobertZat 6 лет назад +3

      This is NOT a Theatre Organ. It is a SYMPHONIC instrument capable of playing all kinds of music.

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 5 лет назад +1

      @@RobertZat Yeah I wrote that comment in 2017 when I didn't know as much about organs. Since then I learned that theatre organs were made for silent films, so in addition to some sounds of an orchestra, it has stuff like klaxon horns, train whistles, doorbells, and castanets. The Wanamaker is indeed a symphonic organ, with pipes emulating the many sections and voices of a symphony orchestra. And what better place for a symphony organ than Philadelphia, a city known for its symphony.
