As an Aussie it's absolutely WILD to me to see the unrest and potential threat that's happening within your own borders, from your own people, directed AT your own people. All throughout my life, the American democratic process is one that people have been told to look to as an example of how to make sure the people have their say. I would argue that it's not a perfect system (neither is ours) but ask anyone in a civil war-torn nation whether their system is better or the US and most would say the US by far.
How did we get here?! When did the democratic process become something that people are needing to protect themselves from their own neighbours who are now somehow willing to fight and kill each other over in a first world nation?
I spent a bit of time in Afghanistan too, and the absolute befuddlement that comes out of seeing their struggle and willingness to seriously wound or even kill each other slowly becoming a reality in the American context is... There's no actual words for it. I would never in my wildest dreams have imagined that it would be possible, and yet here we are. I really hope that every single one of my American friends is safe, gets to express their democratic right in safety and security, and people learn to accept that others have differing opinions and that's ok. Because in countries like Afghanistan where a woman can be stoned to death for even having her voice be heard by someone that's not related to her?

A good test is to go 30 days without buying anything. I ran out of milk first. I have dry but don't like to drink it, for cooking it was fine.
@paularobinson2352 There is UHT milk that is shelf stable. A bit expensive and tastes a little cooked, but it is real milk and lasts for months without refrigeration.

Growing up, we always had a pantry. We never thought of it as prepping, it's just stocking up on sale items. About 3 years ago I got concerned about the food prices and started stocking up more. Now I am concerned about food shortages. Remember when people use to laugh at us "preppers"? I don't think they are laughing at us now. When something is missing at the store or isn't on sale, I just go to my pantry and replenish when it goes on sale again.

No, not the Ozarks! It's a bad place to set up a self-sustaining homestead and food producing operation. It hardly ever rains (😉). You have to build an earth sheltered home just to protect yourself from tornadoes, straight-line windstorms, the brutal seasons, and high electric bills. And all these caves on the property, what can we do with them? Jest sayin'...

Progress is good and living like our Depression Era grandparents did is wise. The first thing my grandmother did with electrification on the farm was to buy two large freezers and expand the farm business. The l8ved debt-free and independently. Grandma said that nothing is expensive if you don't have to buy it.

Please give me some tips. Im in a rural area. I have a generator. I have a small stock of candles for power outages and ways to cook if there is no power. Im very concerned about what might happen this November.

That’s not a new development. The last justifiable war we fought was WWII. The one partial exception was Afghanistan, which we should have spent about two months in after 9/11, not 20 years.
I have 2 nephews serving our Great Country right now. 1 is deployed on a nuclear sub, & the other is deployed in Germany. Patriotism is not dead in our younger generation.🇺🇲

Main reason we left the ever more worldly Methodist church and joined the Mennonite Church the came into our neighborhood. Biblically based and they are very much about supporting their community. They’ve been prepping all their lives, but never call it that. It’s just the way they’ve always done things. Great people. The deacon moved in behind our house. We’ve discussed a shared solar backup system. I’m sharing my hydroponics experience with him and others at the church. I grow all cold season in our basement. Lettuce 🥬 & Tomatoes 🍅 for now.

If you are having trouble figuring how to go off grid, consider how your grandparents grew up as children. They typically grew up with much less than we have as preppers.

Per your style: common sense awareness is key. Thank you for that. I can feel myself tense when I hear any news reports lately & I’m trying not to fall into that trap. It isn’t productive. What really bothers me is the underlying anger within so many people. (I’m still dealing with my own anger because of the last 4 years too) it feels like the second’s before a champagne cork pops. I miss the ability to talk openly, to debate openly, to listen to reasonable people share their political ideas, fears, hopes, etc. I look around & see people shopping like today is just another day and I wonder?

Inflation was a LOT worse in the 1970's, with gas rationing because of the Arab Oil Embargo thrown in! Most folks weren't old enough to clearly recall those times today. Food prices doubled, real quick, then went up again. My upper middle class parents reacted to my announcement that there was a hole in my school shoes by cutting a piece of cardboard & putting it in on top of the insole ." We can't afford new shoes now. " And they had never wasted money, but suddenly there wasn't enough. They didn't smoke or drink, & our cars were always used- but now there were a Lot of meatless days. They told me stories of the Depression when they were kids, & of food rationing in WW2. Times have been hard, but the page is turning. Bacon was reasonably priced again in the store this week. Thank you for all the info you give us. I have a Eco flow river 2 which I bought on one of your previous recommendations and I love it. It’s not all that I need, but it is a beginning and with winter coming on. I can at the very least Plug-in a heating pad to keep me from freezing. I also managed to get a small solar panel, foldable, that doesn’t provide all the power I need but it’s better than nothing. Thank you again. Love you show.

We just bought a commercial honey bee outfit to fit with our homestead. Feels weird for me to say that.
That's a good buy,my boss bought one a coup years ago now we have tons of honey.
Wish I was not frightened of bees. But honey stores forever so I just put away a multi-year supply.

If you possibly can, volunteer to be a poll worker. I am almost 70 and not in the best of health, but I will be there at my polling place. The best way to put the lie to statements about election problems is to make sure all the precincts are well staffed. I have done it twice before. The system works IF there are enough workers. We cannot give up our democracy without a fight, no matter which side you are on politically. Do not be a wuss at this time in our history.
Make sure you purge your voter rolls of ineligible voters. We cannot have our democracy stolen by criminals that will do anything to stay in power

I have been saying this for years now. While everyone preps for certain events, I think people need to start preparing for a possible nuclear war just in case. Figure out how you would shelter in your home. Everything else is similar Food,water, etc.

Even if conflict doesn’t directly affect you, you can be 100% sure that it will indirectly affect you via supply chains, economic impact, internet disruption and so on.
