We actually love MSC. We find the staff can be a little abrupt with their dealings with you but I like it. If I ask for a beer, I want a beer, chit-chat is not necessary. The ships are gorgeous, the food is so much fresher than most cruise lines and as you pointed out - the best pizza at sea. The value is so good you can usually book 1 or two levels higher than other lines at the same cost. We are traveling on MSC in October/24 with friends who usually sail Norwegian. For the cost of an inside room on Norwegian, they got a balcony with thermal spa access on MSC (essentially the same itinerary). I’m usually leery of videos with titles like yours - it feels like click bait. I also think people use negatives to get views rather than inform.
Hey, thanks for this! I’m hoping you found the video informative - I’m not in the game just for the clicks :) Anyway, I agree re the pricing - I often tend to book the lowest rate to have the lowest cost week at sea, but good comparison against others here! Thanks for watching!!
We loved meravigia. We had a balcony and the kids had across the hall inside. Not the same as her has here. Just got off quantum of the seas from Alaska. My wife turned to me and said "I miss MSC". Booked on world America inaugural
I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I took a cruise with them in November 2023 from nyc on the Meraviglia ship & I had the most amazing time of my life. The staff was amazing, the food in all the restaurants, including the buffet was simply delicious & the honestly it's so difficult for me to interact with people, I ended up making friends with some great people on this cruise ship. My room had a temperature control thermostat where I was able to control my own air conditioner and heat. I didn't have to wait for my drinks when I ordered. The Butcher's Cut restaurant was omg simply delicious, elegant, and the best damn service I've ever had at a restaurant. My trip was to Bermuda with the drink package and wifi for 8 days, 7 nights, and the total price with the port charges of $857.00 My only complaint - honestly, the wifi simply socks. The wifi simply never worked. Now, for 2024, I will be doing msc again at the end of September I can't wait.
I have been on the Meraviglia twice this year and two times last year. Each time was better than The last. Msc listens to all suggestions and even within a two month time frame I’ve noticed noticeable quality changes. The price is the best value out there for a cruise.
We also loved Meraviglia and are sailing in the same cabin and Aurea level next month having just sailed them in February. We’ve sailed all the big lines and feel like MSC is definitely the best value and food at sea. It still feels like old style cruising without all the cutbacks that the other lines are implementing,
That's a shame. Out of 25 cruises, MSC Meraviglia was one of the best. Gorgeous ship, great food, professional service, outstanding entertainment. We did it January 2022 out of Port Canaveral. Weather was perfect. Ranks in top 5 of favorite cruises.
Oh, I’m so glad you had a great experience - it just shows how they can fix issues, doesn’t it? It’s a gorgeous ship - I do love the Meraviglia class. Thanks for watching!
We sailed this same ship in a delux balcony. It was the largest balcony I have ever had and it was very nice. The staff was great. The main dining room was amazing. That buffet was just as good as any cruise buffet. The entertainment was different but I still enjoyed it. I have not been on other MSC ships but I plan to in the future.
Yeah just looked at room 10004 on the deck plan and it says adjoining rooms on either side and that it was only a sofa bed. Tip is to always look at the deck plan symbols to see what that room has before booking. I specifically look at it because I certainly do not want to chance strangers trying to get into my room through an adjoining door.
Hi Beth, thanks for this, and I completely agree! I cruise so often that I naively thought ‘it’ll be fine’, which is how I ended up in this cabin - d’oh! Always pays to check! Thanks so much for watching!!
If you booked a studio room what do you expect? Did you not go onto their website and look at the room views / videos in advance as that’s what we always do to make sure we know exactly what we’re going to get
Hey! Good point! As I was spending so much time on ships last year, I assumed ‘it would be fine’, so I naively didn’t check - my mistake! Hopefully this video will show people they really need to - I agree with you!
He expected a room that was small, but functional is what he expected. The fact that the closet was virtually unusable with the bed in night configuration is absolutely unacceptable. He also expected a proper bed, not a sofa bed, and not one that blocked access to the closet. Which I think is a reasonable expectation given other single/studio cabins in the rest of the industry. The dissatisfaction with the lack of function is completely justified.
When you showed the small room, I couldn't help but assume it was designed to serve as a second bedroom to the staterooms on either side of you. When I was in a 2-bedroom suite in the Haven on NCL, the second bedroom was basically what you had there. Which was fine, as you had the rest of the stateroom -- living room, little dining area -- in which to spend all your time. Although even in that situation, the closet was far more accessible than what you had there!
Hey! I think you’re absolutely correct - this is my assumption to. This room would be ideal for extra guests - maybe children/teens, but shouldn’t be sold for a full fare regular passenger!
Truly sorry about your experience! I appreciate your ability to keep your head up through it tho! Hope we see more context from this cruise and that the journey moves towards a more positive one!
Thanks very much! I do always try to stay positive - what's the point in letting something ruin your day? Life's too short! Don't worry - LOTS more to come from this cruise, but unfortunately not all positive...!!
I love the way you handled the rocky start. Looking forward to more of your vlog. I am a fan of Emma Cruises and obviously watching her has led to you turning up in my feed. You appear to be the kind of positivity I enjoy. Bon Voyage
Hi Eddie, thanks so much for your comment - I’m glad you’ve found me. Welcome to my channel - thanks for being here! Also, I always try to be positive :)
Glad you were able to change your cabin. Whew! If I was stuck in that “hallway” with the sofa bed I’d probably make it back up to a sofa and just sleep on it that way. Enjoy your cruise.
When booking MSC on this class of ship you can select the smaller interior room at a highly discounted price. I personally think it is a great option for a solo traveler looking for the cheapest way possible to cruise. Usually as a solo traveler you are pretty much paying for 2 people as the cruise line makes its money based on double occupancy. I can see how it would be shocking expecting an actual bed and not having one, but these rooms are specifically designed with solo budget cruising in mind.
Hi Chandler, thanks for watching, and thanks for also taking the time to comment! I do totally agree with your comment, but this cruise cost me more than so many others, and so I think the point of 'budget cruising' isn't to relevant here. If MSC are looking to aim these rooms at a 'budget cruiser', it's really important that they retain a low price point, otherwise you get people going in there expecting more (like an actual bed, haha!). Hope this makes sense :) Thanks again!
I just got back from having the same cabin as that first one. My expectations were lower, so what I did was simply ask them to make the bed up on the closed couch instead of the pullout. Once they did, the floor space was perfectly fine. (It's still not thick and deluxe padding, but it's fine.) That second cabin would almost be too much space for me, but for only $15/night as a last-minute upgrade that's not bad. Going to Customer Service on day 1 would be the real headache. What you didn't experience was that giant wall panel in the first room. It's the bow cam (which more often was just an animation of water). I couldn't find any way to turn it off, and reportedly others are the same. Which means it is *way* too bright at night. I literally had to use the magnet hooks I brought to hang a towel over it to sleep at night. That to me is inexcusable.
Oh my goodness - you can’t turn that off?! If that’s the case, what a totally nightmare - I need a room to be pitch black to sleep at night - I’m a nightmare, ha! Thanks a lot for watching!!
Really felt for you watching this one, Fraser. “I don’t want to be here any more than you do” - outrageous! Your positive energy is amazing and we are looking forward to watching more from your trip!
great video, that brought back great memories when I sailed out of NYC in 2018 although we left Port Liberty Bayonne. I always wonder why the q at guest services is so big on day one, hopefully not everyone had the nightmare you did!!! Love your positivity as always, not sure as a solo traveller I would have got over it as quickly ..... good you met someone to drink wine with.
Hey Lesley! 👋🏼 I always think - I’m on vacation - what’s the point in being annoyed and letting it ruin your day? Watch this space - lots more to come on this ship 😂
Hey! If you don’t drink alcohol, you might want to avail of a non alcoholic package - there won’t be any benefit in you taking the full package. Have a great cruise, and thanks for watching!!
Was on this ship a few weeks ago. Was the most fun cruise ship experience I've had in 20 years. 💖💖💖💖💖💖 Not to miss, Quest, Pub Trivia, Music Trivia, so much fun - Our entertainment person Chantelle? was so much fun too!
That first cabin looked awful! Glad you managed to get it sorted even if it did require paying for an upgrade and wasting so much time on your boarding day. Sailing out of NYC has been on my bucket list too, thankfully I’ve got one booked for next year!
We are so sorry for the way you were treated. We are also content creators who live in NYC. Watching past guests on MSC explain about the horrible customer service they provide really puts into perspective our decision to sail with them. MSC needs to do a thorough customer service training to all their employees. Their ships are stunning but their employees need interaction and problem solving training. If they do, MSC has the potential to take over the cruise market by storm. Hope the rest of your sailing becomes a better experience for you. Happy sailings!😊
Hey, thanks so much for watching, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment - great to e-meet you. Agreed - so much potential - hopefully they sharpen up and cash in on it in the future!
Thanks for the reply!! Hope your enjoy your cruise. We are booked on Utopia of the Seas in September. Hope we can see this entire ship in 4 days sailing.
So sorry to hear about your experience Fraser. We've never done MSC and I can't say we are in a rush to try them. Glad you felt better on the 2nd day. Great tip about the ferry! Well done on your increasing subs. Well deserved!!
Ahh, thanks so much - it’s been so amazing to watch the channel grow, and see our little community expand here on RUclips! The ferry was SUCH a win - I couldn’t believe my luck on that one! Thanks again, Lisa!
I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I took a cruise with them in November 2023 & I had the most amazing time of my life. The staff was amazing, the food in all the restaurants, including the buffet was simply delicious & the honestly it's so difficult for me to interact with people, I ended up making friends with some great people on this cruise ship.
Always nice to see how MSC treats its Diamond members which the last check-in time, horribly cabin…. We are about to book this exact ship for a 12+ people family cruise and will be following very closely in this series on if we actually should
Good points here - I was surprised by just how late I got onboard - every other passenger sitting relaxing and enjoying their trip, and I arrived MUCH earlier than I should have, haha! Lots more to come from this one - not all 'smooth sailing' unfortunately... Watch this space - thanks for following along!!
Frazier. You may not remember but about a week ago while watching Solent Ships I suggested to the Captain that he hire you as co host. Now I come to find out you have your own channel so I subscribed. Glad I stumbled onto this video. We, my wife and I, have never cruised with MSC so I can’t add much to the conversation but thanks for the info anyway. Look forward to more.
Ah, thanks so much Greg - hello! 👋🏼 I do indeed have my own channel - slightly different to Solent Ships, but I really hope you enjoy it here - I take you out on the ships 😊 Thanks for subscribing, and therefore supporting my channel, and welcome onboard!!
Wow that's not a fair cabin for 10 nights cruise but your positivity shone through. Am also glad you ticked your bucket list sailing away from Newyork even with rain you still remained positive not discourged👍
From what I can tell, the least expensive interior staterooms are like that with the folding sofa. They’re quite spacious with the sofa folded in and super cramped with it folded out. I think to be really comfortable in them. You’d have to put away the bed every day. Having said that, I’m considering that stateroom for a cruise out of Brooklyn.
Ah, nice one! I'd agree that it's really cramped with the bed folded out - not ideal. MSC should really just advertise these rooms as single beds - that would make it much easier to deal with! Thanks for watching!!
Hey Fraser. I was in 1 of those connecting Staterooms (10006) on that same ship and it was 1 of the best I've been in for an ocean view (did a video on it). I wondered at the time what the adjoining room was like. Glad you were able to move. I agree with so much of your initial thoughts on the service. Not a cruise I want to repeat. Keep enjoying your travels.
Basha, hey! Great to see your name pop up! Glad the connecting rooms have a great view - this one certainly does not, haha! Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hi, just subscribed as we travel a lot and looking to take our first cruise next year, complete novice when it comes to cruise ships. We love New York and fancy trying a cruise to the Bahamas from New York. You sound local to me, im Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire, looking forward to watching your vlogs
Hey! Thanks a lot for subscribing - your support is massively appreciated! I’m from near Glasgow, although people always think I live up north - so many say Aberdeenshire, haha! Oh, I’ve got so much to tell you on here - I could bore you to death forever more 😂 Welcome to Fraser at Sea! 🌊 🛳️ 😃
@ I would have never said Glasgow! You must be from the west end 🤣. I will probably bend your ear on some of your videos as I make my way through them. Thanks for responding
New York certainly is an amazing city! Wow, I've not been in a terminal where it hasn't been packed!! Oh my, I have heard about those sofa beds...not sure why they went that way, as I would think just a single bed would serve everyone so much better. Happy you were able to get a bed!! Now that was quite a sight in the mist with the sail away! I have has such great experiences with MSC with sailing out of Miami...but New York could be a whole different challenge. Yea, I'm always beating up on myself when things don't go so well...as if it was my own fault...a new day and hope all gets better and enjoy Canada!!
Thanks for watching! I agree - I’ve criticised rooms in the past for only offering solo’s a single bed, but this is a ridiculous setup when the room is being sold as a primary cabin, rather than an added room to the one next door - madness. Thanks for watching!!
That cabin is embarrassing. I don't know how they can actually charge for those facilities. For me, it underlines the disdain with which some companies view solo travellers. I've never cruised with MSC before and I know some people love them but I'm afraid I've heard too many negatives about MSC, so wont be using them at any time in the future.
I've been on many MSC cruises. I find that they put some of the worst staff on the newest ships. I've enjoyed the older ships such as Poesia, Divina, and Lirica much more than the newer ships, primarily due to the customer service. The new ships are incredibly gorgeous, in my opinion, but beyond that, my expectations are low. I travel solo most of the time and had no idea the solo cabins on Meraviglia were so pitiful. I've been on that ship, but stayed in a regular cabin. Great channel - I enjoy your videos!
Oh, thanks so much for the compliment - thanks a lot for your support! Interesting observation about service levels across old and new ships - this is something I’ve never noticed before, but will try to keep an eye for in future. Thanks for this!
@@FraserAtSeaExperienced crew members prefer to work on older, smaller ships for their social life. On new, larger ships they rarely get to socialize with or work with their friends.
Very nice video Fraser. Yes, the NYC Ferry is great to get to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. I have used it on a few occasions to board Queen Mary 2. So convenient and affordable.
Yes, of course - that must be wonderful to approach the QM2 on the water like that! I'm so glad I found it - what a 'bucket list' experience for $4! Thanks for watching, Francois!
Totally agree with you regards the single room having a sofa bed and I would defo chase reimbursement for the upgrade as that sounds like false advertising to me, a sofa bed is not a single bed, I would be annoyed by that, as you were. Just found your channel and subscribed! I'm heading on a Princess cruise with our family (Balcony cabin) in less than a month to Iceland from Southampton, which is costing an arm and a leg btw, but it's been a tough few years and we have literally pushed the boat out a bit and so looking forward to our first cruise, I think it will be the first of many, although I will be looking at last minute deals from now on, I think. I hope you enjoy the rest of your cruise and it's not as stressful as the start of it!
Hey, thanks so much for subscribing - I really appreciate your support, and welcome onboard! Have an amazing time with Princess - I do absolutely LOVE a the Princess cruise product - you’re going to be so well looked after on there, and what an itinerary! Thanks again, and welcome to my little corner of RUclips! 😊
Oh my goodness…. I would have burst into tears if that was my cabin. Well done you for sorting it. What a place to sail away from, that is indeed a bucket list place.
Joanne, hello! Oh, I came close - I was SO frustrated when I saw that room - I’ve never ever felt that on a cruise before. Thanks so much for watching - glad you enjoyed it!
You came back with such a positive spin on things which I am so impressed by. Good that you found nice people to have fun with. Must admit that I hear so many things about the crew on msc that I’ve resisted going on one
Very unfortunate start to your cruise. Glad you got that "room" changed. I sailed from pier 88 in Manhattan in April. It was breathtaking! Looking forward to your next video, hoping things are better.
Ahh, I’ve got a series coming soon from Pier 88 - what an incredible experience that port is - my favourite New York port, for sure! Thanks a lot for watching, and thanks for taking the time to comment - appreciate it!!
You have an interesting vlog and I’ll continue to watch. Just wanted to mention that the deck plan definitely calls for an “Only single sofa bed” with 2 connected doors for stateroom 10004. However, even knowing that, the room would have been surprising.
I'm a local in New Jersey. Have sailed out of all 3 ports. Brooklyn, Bayonne NJ, and Manhattan. The Manhattan departure and arrival are amazing. One day maybe you'll sail from there. It's the best.
Wow That Sleeper Sofa Looked Uncomfortable 🤣 That Looked Like A One Way Mirror Next To The Sofa Bed. Glad You Were Able To Upgrade Cabins. We Never Have Sailed On MSC. We Do Prefer The Smaller Ships. Thank You For Sharing 👍
That's exactly what it is - hence all of the adjoining doors. You could book all 3, which would give you 2 cabins then a social space in the middle, or somewhere for the kids to sleep between the rooms. An interesting setup, for sure!
Everybody can have an "off" day but a day where everyone you can possibly come across is being so negative is officially a problem !! Well done for processing it and being positive about it all. Good for Scott and Pinot Noir ! 😂
Glad you were feeling better by the end. The cabin was awful and what you dread as a solo traveller. I arrived at the brooklyn terminal in October on QM2. As you know the ship is great. When I disembarked couldn't find my lugguage. I never did see it. There was a storm and after it came off the ship the crate ended up into sea. It was raining so hard the water could not drain. Hardly any transport could get to the terminal as roads were flooded. Everyone who had transfers booked were under where you filmed. The water was just pouring through the roof so hand lugguage was just standing in water. I love NYC but the first day was not great. The rest was great. I hope things continued to get better and you had a good time.
Hello! Watch this space - episode 2 coming soon! Oh wow - that sounds like you had a CRAZY experience in NYC - fair winds and calm seas, for the future cruises!!
Went for my first cruise ever last Oct solo on Princess 7 night roundtrip from Brooklyn to Canada/New England. Stopped at Newport, Biston, Bar Harbor, St. John, and Halifax. Inside room. Absolutely loved it. Beautiful ship. So comfortable. Rich itinerary. Each stop interesting. Made my second cruise again solo on Princess to Alaska last month and going back to Canada/NE with my husband on Princess in Sept. I noticed that your list of lines does not include Princess. I liked it so much I see no reason to try another.
Ahh, my next RUclips series (should go live in around a month) was NCL Escape on the same itinerary you mentioned here - some of this MSC cruise stopped in the same ports too. Hopefully you can reminisce through this series - thanks for watching!!
Hey Fraser. That cabin oh my, it was definitely a cabin for adjoining rooms but how it was sold to you I don’t know considering you couldn’t even open the draws! Least you got a new cabin and amazing sailaway. Good choice in not not coming on after a few wines the rude crew would have got it haha.
Yeah, such a strange room from MSC this time - looks like a room that’s sold as an additional room to the family rooms on either side. It 100% shouldn’t be considered doable for a solo - awful! Thanks for watching!!
I'm watching alone at home at went "FUUU**** OFFF!" at the telly as soon as you opened the door to that storage cupboard they're passing off as a cabin 😅
Hello! Thanks for watching. If you’d like to see my exact ones, I’ve put them in my Amazon shop! :) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09GYD9DMZ/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_MF211MWEZ7P2F21PS0X7?linkCode=ml2&tag=fraserporteou-21
Sorry you had a bad experience with your stateroom. I guess it's a hit or miss with sail away staterooms. I had a cruise on Meraviglia back in November of last year where I purchased an interior room with bella experience. I found out close to my cruise date they assigned me a stateroom with a deluxe size balcony. It was a pleasant surprise.
Oh wow - this is such a huge win! I rarely get the surprises like that - you must’ve been DELIGHTED after booking a Bella Inside, haha! Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment!
I feel you on this one Fraser, I was on Musica last month and day one was also a total disaster, bags went missing to 11pm, lack of clear comms on where exactly the port was in Cannes and a nightmare trying to resolve a double charging of drink package (still not 100% resolved either, they gave cruise credit that have now taken away from me 🙈). Spent a lot of time over the 7 days at reception! Which was a shame as the experience onboard the ship was lovely, relaxing, the dining and bar crews so chatty and caring and as a bonus, they even put me into a balcony cabin when I booked an inside! It's like their admin side hurts what is a good product, even on the older Musica class, and Meraviglia looks amazing! Also have to agree with you on their entertainment (at least in the theatre) when it came to their musical performances they were top notch, although wasnt too sure on the juggler!
I’d totally agree with the fact their ships are beautiful but their onboard admin and service lets them down - I get so frustrated dealing with Guest Services, as it’s MUCH more clunky and difficult than any other cruise line I’ve come across. Sorry to hear you also had a bad day 1 - hope it improved! Thanks a lot for watching my video, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!!
@@FraserAtSea It's unbelievably frustrating. The admin area really seems to be the side they need to sort, as I had no issues with Musica and overall it was an enjoyable cruise. They clearly have a good product and maybe too much MSC Pizza! Just parts that can be such a let down leaves you feeling so deflated. So when I saw this video I totally knew how you felt. But even things like dismemberment went super smooth, off within half an hour! I just need to try resolve this cruise credit thing they do since I never even asked for it to be added on, yet they still have it 🤦
My wife and I are veteran cruisers. Experienced with RCL, NCL, Carnival, Holland America and 5 times with MSC including the Poesía, Digna, Seaside and twice on the Meraviglia. I ca say with total certainty that MSC is the very best value for your money. Never had a bad meal in their main dining rooms. Always found the crew to be very attentive and cheerful. Their private island is beautiful and recently it has been improved further. Have a New Year’s cruise booked leaving Miami on December 29 and another leaving Venice on June 1, 2025. Can’t wait to sail with them again.
@Bullfeathers Good to know. We decided to bite the bullet and do a 2 night taster cruise on Virtuosa next month. I'll go on with an open mind and give my honest opinion on my vlogs. Your comment makes me look forward to it a bit more....plus Fraser enjoyed Virtuosa..so I'm hopeful
Wow! Your initial cabin was tiny and inefficient. Would you even be able to grab your lifejacket in a hurry? Glad you were able to switch it for the other cabin. Have been enjoying your videos! Thanks. Cheers from 🇨🇦
That solo cabin with a sofa bed is unacceptable! Glad you managed to change to a different room, but disgusted that you had to pay extra for it! Solo travellers pay enough as it is! We really hope the rest of your trip is smooth sailing! ❤
I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I took a cruise with them in November 2023 & I had the most amazing time of my life. The staff was amazing, the food in all the restaurants, including the buffet was simply delicious & the honestly it's so difficult for me to interact with people, I ended up making friends with some great people on this cruise ship.
greetings from Brooklyn New York, I was on that same cruise in May and the main problem that I encountered was the rudeness of passengers while getting off the elevators as well at the buffet restaurant, now I don't know if this might be just a New York city thing or just a cultural thing, I do have to say the Maravillia is a gorgeous ship!
Hey! Totally agree re the ship being gorgeous, and how annoying was elevator etiquette? I found so many people would just walk into the elevator and not allow people to get out the lift first - so bad! Thanks a lot for commenting!!
You booked a studio interior. There's plenty of pictures of them on the internet. They're really inexpensive so I don't understand why you think you should have been upgraded to a full interior cabin for free. I stayed in a studio interior and was fine, although mine had a daybed, not a sofa bed. The sofa beds are only in the studio rooms at the front and the rear of the ship with the two connecting doors. I've actually got two cruises booked for this winter on the Meraviglia and have the studio room on the back similar to yours BUT with a rear facing balcony. Worth it to me.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for watching. Sounds like your solo rooms are the much better ones. I agree with you that they’re usually inexpensive, but I didn’t feel like I got value for money with this trip. Also, I feel there should be at least a good quality day bed - the sofa was rubbish for an adult, haha!
I agree! I did the 10 day on the same ship, and coming from Norwegian & RC, this is horrible. The service to the food was sub par. It's not worth doing MSC unless budget is your ONLY concern; you can't beat the price, but you do get what you pay for...
I was shocked when I saw your first 'closet' 😮. So glad you got a much nicer room. I remember one time we were in a connecting room, we had booked it for our son and family. Long story short, dil had a baby and was too young to sail. Anyway, the couple who got the cabin were like 'rabbits', I never wished so much for our cruise to end 😂. Never ever book a connecting room intentionally haha 😀. Love your videos. You have such a lovely positive attitude. Keep smiling 😊 x
OH NO - this would be my worst nightmare, hahah! At least all I could hear was chat coming through the door - that’s sooooo bad, and also embarrassing for them 😂 Thanks so much for watching, Shirley!
I went on an msc cruise taking this same ship back in November 2023... I'm sorry he had this experience. I had the most amazing time in my life. The staff was simply amazing. I was on this ship in November 2023, going to Bermuda, I had the time of my life. The staff was simply amazing. Now, honestly, some of the guests on this ship were nasty, rude, and downright disgusting. But the ship was simply beautiful. I stayed in cabin 11001. My cabin, while small, was cute & cozy for a solo traveler. The specialty restaurant service was amazing. The food was over the top. When I ate in the buffet, the food was actually great, and there were staff members all over the place waiting to clean up behind you. My cabin room was small, but honestly, how much time do you plan on spending in your cabin? Taking a shower and sleeping, that's it. My cabin was clean. Now, my bad experience on this cruise was with the large group of Chinese people that were on board. They were nasty and rude to other guests and staff members. They stole everything they could from the buffet, They constantly coughed with covering their mouths. My cruise on this ship was so amazing that I've booked a second cruise with them, and I can't wait.
@FraserAtSea Now I'm not saying your experience wasn't bad. Keep in mind that the staff on these cruise ships constantly changes. But my experience was simply amazing. My only complaint was that the wifi is simply the worst. Now I can tell you I cruise on carnival cruise one time and I will never cruise with them again, the worst cruise ever. I spent half the cruise hiding under the dining room table from people fighting on carnival 🤣🤣🤣
I cannot believe that they are in business. We went on the seaboard out of Port Canaveral. I lost weight on the cruises the food was so bad. My wife caught covid. I cannot understand how people can say anything good about this cruise line.
Hi John, thanks a lot for watching! Sorry to hear you also had a bad experience - I guess the cruise lines can’t really help covid too much, but they can do food. I’ve always had good MSC cruises in Europe - not this one, though…!!
I have been through Brooklyn Cruise Terminal a few times, both arriving and leaving New York. Usually okay, once brilliant when boarding and went through the terminal in a few minutes. I hope you were just unlucky as I will be arriving there in September
Yeah, I passed through there again for Queen Mary 2 recently, and the experience was really good - I hope that I was just unlucky, too! Thanks a lot for watching - really appreciate the support!
I never intend to sail with MSC. Your video showed exactly what I would expect from them. Huge crowds, rude staff and a tacky interior. I hope you managed to have some fun, though.
Hi Joan, thanks for watching! I've had some great cruises with MSC, but this wasn't one of them unfortunately - watch this space for the next instalment - it gets better (not in a good way...).
That was a really odd room no way could you sleep on that sofa bed glad you got your cabin changed it was a shame you had to pay extra for it too ,it was a lovely sail away out of New York too 😻
There are actually THREE separate cruise terminals in New York City, the one in Brooklyn that you used for this cruise, the one on the west side of Manhattan on the Hudson River, and the one over on the other side of the harbor in Bayonne. That one is technically in New Jersey, but it's a distinction without a different, just as Newark Airport is usually considered one of the three NYC airports. As you point out, passengers need to be really careful to check which cruise terminal they need.
Ahh, that’s another I didn’t know about - thanks for leaving this comment. I’m kinda right, and kinda wrong - I’ll pretend I knew that one was in New Jersey, haha! Thanks for watching!!
@@FraserAtSea I don't know which terminal is used by all the cruise lines, but, just off the top of my head...Princess, Cunard, and MSC use Brooklyn, Carnival, Norwegian, and Regent use Manhattan, and Royal Caribbean and Celebrity use Bayonne (which is technically called Cape Liberty, I think).
We had a bad experience on Euriba so I feel your pain. Buffet was chaos, too many people on board so much we never saw one of the shows as we couldn’t get in the room, organisation and customer service was a shambles and I got food poisoning. I haven’t had food poisoning in 30 years. The told me to stay on my room and they forgot to send me food. They gave me medication and didn’t charge me after I saw the doctor. Other people were very sick too.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this! Unfortunately, the chaos will continue into my next couple of episodes - I wish it didn’t, but it did… Watch this space. Sorry to hear Euribia didn’t go to plan for you - I really want to try that ship as I’ve previously loved my time with MSC, but this cruise has spooked me a little!
Those rooms are between 2 rooms to accommodate extra passengers. We were lucky - we booked one of the rooms next to studio that had bunk beds in wall. My daughter then decided to come. She tried to book the one you have next to us because we wanted 2 bathrooms because my grandkids are teens. They did not give her that room. She got one as big as ours with the couch turning into bunks so one grandchild could stay with - she paid for a single. It was fantastic. The single room you have connected to other rooms. We had it so much nicer than having her in the single. You have the couch opened to bed. We would have had it set as a couch all day. We love MSC. Stayed in Bella, Aurea, duplex and yacht club.
Yeah, I think these rooms would be a lovely added room, rather than a primary room for an occupant. The rooms on either side look great - thanks for watching and commenting!
It was indeed! A solo inside cabin, but can also be booked as an adjoining cabin to the one next door - I'd say perfect if you're travelling with children (even teenagers), but not for an adult!
I was watching this on TV last night and I kind of knew what was coming, but my OH didn’t and kept saying - how can MSC even sell that as a cabin?! You have such a positive attitude though and I’m glad you were able to get an upgrade (not sure you should have to have paid though). On another point - why is MSC Guest Services always rammed on Embarkation day? We want to do this itinerary (prob not on MSC) so looking forward to the rest of this series 😊
Zoe, great to see your name pop up - thanks for watching and also taking the time to comment! I'm glad I could keep the surprises coming in this episode, haha! Spoiler alert - it doesn't get much better over the next few episodes, hahah! I agree - that room shouldn't be a solo cabin - I've stayed in smaller cabins (the solo on Virgin is TINY), but this one really takes the biscuit... Thanks again!
I had a cabin like that also, it was like a air mattress on the floor, I called guest services and had my cabin changed. I was so upset, I'm like you should let people know that the damn bed was on the floor, I'm a senior I would never be able to get up from there. Thankfully they didn't give me a hard time and moved me to a regular inside cabin and I didn't have to pay extra to change.
Oh my goodness - which cruise line was that on?! That sleeping situation actually sounds worse than what I had - I’m glad you were able to move! Thanks for watching, Carolyn!
You’re so right - exactly the same dock as the QM2. The ferry is excellent! Thanks a lot for watching, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
The passanger reviews of meraviglia and Virtuosa are generally on the low side so I avoid those ships. Having tried World Europa and enjoyed it and then Costa Toscana which is one of my favourite cruises to date, I will now choose Costa over MSC for budget med cruises going forward. I've already booked another Costa cruise in November which will be the first time cruising Europe in Autumn and running the risk of bad seas, but for £185 who can say no to a 4 night cruise
Yeah, I will not complain about my solo studio on the NCL Escape on the 2nd leg of my big adventure again. A sofa bed, that's just not right man. I'm glad you were able to get the upgrade.
Oh, I reckon Princess will be wonderful at this - their onboard lectures are SO great before visiting new places. Enjoy that one - do check back in and let me know how you get on!
Ah Fraser I am so disappointed for you. I was under the impression that she would be almost identical to Virtuosa. Fancy having to pay for a bed!!!! I really hope you complain. I think we are spoilt at Southampton as all my cruises on virtuosa have been so quick... I hope things improve for you... This cruise is on my bucket list too, but I will hold off for a while . Have you done preziosa? I am on her in October. Booked Euribia but they switched the ship. I am looking forward to it though.
Thanks so much for watching - great to see your name pop up! I totally agree about being spoiled with Virtuosa - she’s such a beauty of a ship, and the onboard experience is so consistently good! I haven’t done Preziosa, but have heard nothing but good things! Thanks a lot for watching, and taking the time to comment!

Bro shut up
We actually love MSC.
I’m hoping you found the video informative - I’m not in the game just for the clicks :)
Anyway, I agree re the pricing - I often tend to book the lowest rate to have the lowest cost week at sea, but good comparison against others here!
My trip was to Bermuda with the drink package and wifi for 8 days, 7 nights, and the total price with the port charges of $857.00
My only complaint - honestly, the wifi simply socks.
I’m going in Jan 2025. Second time on that ship. I am so ready for my winter vacay
Had our first MSC cruise March 2024 and going again in March 2025!!! Loved it!!
Ahh, amazing to hear that you had a great trip! Thanks a lot for leaving this comment!!
I always look at photos and RUclips videos before I book
He expected a room that was small, but functional is what he expected. The fact that the closet was virtually unusable with the bed in night configuration is absolutely unacceptable. He also expected a proper bed, not a sofa bed, and not one that blocked access to the closet. Which I think is a reasonable expectation given other single/studio cabins in the rest of the industry. The dissatisfaction with the lack of function is completely justified.
Oh Fraser that cabin was awful but glad you were able to get moved. Hopefully this didn’t dampen what was one of your bucket list cruises.
I'd expect an actual bed not a pull out couch!
I'd expect to be able to open my closet doors!!
These are reasonable expectations.
Thanks! Yeah, I'd have considered the same, but probably wouldn't have slept much as I'd have been so angry, haha! Thanks for watching!
(It's still not thick and deluxe padding, but it's fine.)
That second cabin would almost be too much space for me, but for only $15/night as a last-minute upgrade that's not bad.
Thanks so much guys - really appreciate the support! This was one of the most interesting cruises I’ve taken, for all the wrong reasons, haha!
great video, that brought back great memories when I sailed out of NYC in 2018 although we left Port Liberty Bayonne.
I leave September 1st on the same boat for 14 days and do you think I need the drink package if I don’t drink alcohol?
Not to miss, Quest, Pub Trivia, Music Trivia, so much fun - Our entertainment person Chantelle? was so much fun too!
Ah, I’m so glad to hear you had a great trip - the trivia is great around the ship, I’d totally agree!
That first cabin looked awful! Glad you managed to get it sorted even if it did require paying for an upgrade and wasting so much time on your boarding day. Sailing out of NYC has been on my bucket list too, thankfully I’ve got one booked for next year!
Oh, I know - ridiculous, wasn’t it? It’s such an amazing sail away - you’re going to love that. Thanks for watching!!
I had a great experience with MSC going to Bermuda from NYC
Ahh, I’m so glad to hear it. Thanks a lot for watching my video! 😊
Great idea to take the Ferry to the city! What port was this and is it easy to reach other ports for the other cruise lines?
Hey, thanks! The port here was Brooklyn cruise terminal - I’ll be showing you another NYC terminal in my next series though, so stay tuned!
Did you pick that initial room or was it selected for you?
Selected for me - I naively didn’t check it before boarding the ship - d’oh!!
It’s 11/3/24. I just found your channel. Love your attitude..hope your trip gets better
Thanks a lot for your support - I’m glad you’ve found me - welcome to Fraser at Sea!
Sailing her this week, had a great time on Seascape (food not so much), but am excited to compare
Ahh, hope you have a great trip!!
Thanks so much, Julie! I loved this day, even if the cruise line didn’t play ball. Thanks so much for watching!
Great tour & review of the MSC Meraviglia.
Well done & cheers from USA. I subscribed !!
Thanks a lot, welcome to my little corner of RUclips. Thanks for your support!
Loved this video! You really did seem to be on the verge of crying with happiness seeing that Manhattan/Liberty skyline:)
Oh, I’ve dreamed of that for years - to see it was SUCH a special feeling. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@FraserAtSea I felt the same way visiting Graceland haha
Honestly, I had the best experience on this cruise ship, and the staff on this cruise ship when I went in November 2023 was AMAZING ❤❤❤❤
What an awesome sail away view. I am scheduled to sail on the Meraviglia in January of 2025. I might've missed it but what month did you sail?
Oh, I agree! To see even better, check out my NCL Escape vlogs, where I left from Manhattan! This was shot during October! 😊
Thanks for watching!!
Agree.
What cabin fid you book. Did you mot do research as to what you were paying for
I booked a solo inside! I didn’t actually research this room due to spending lots of time on ships - I naively assumed ‘it would be fine’…!!
I remember how stressed you were. Its amazing what a couple of wines and a casino does to make you feel better lol. Glad I could help cheer you up
Oh, you helped massively - I hope you enjoyed your shout out in the video, haha! Hope you’re keeping well, Scott!
Sad when the bathroom is better than the cabin itself!
Ha, I know - maybe I should’ve slept in there, haha! 😂
Why did you not know what sort of cabinet you were getting before hand? Did you pick the cabin and check the layout online?
I knew the cabin grade, but didn't know the number - not all of the solo cabins look like this, which is an interesting point to note!
@@FraserAtSea That would explain it. I prefer to know exactly what I'm getting. I book the actual cabin I want.
You have an interesting vlog and I’ll continue to watch. Just wanted to mention that the deck plan definitely calls for an “Only single sofa bed” with 2 connected doors for stateroom 10004. However, even knowing that, the room would have been surprising.
Hey, thanks for watching! It does now - it didn’t when I booked the cruise. Thanks for your comment though - appreciate your support! :)
I'm a local in New Jersey. Have sailed out of all 3 ports. Brooklyn, Bayonne NJ, and Manhattan. The Manhattan departure and arrival are amazing. One day maybe you'll sail from there. It's the best.
My next vlog series is actually going to be sailing out in Manhattan - stay tuned!! :)
@@FraserAtSea I will check and follow! Just discovered your channel.
@@paulj2948 ahh, thanks so much - welcome aboard!!
Looking forward to following your travels. Hopefully, things improve. Wine & chill.
Thanks so much, Patricia!
When u book the base rate you can get any cabin including the studio that upgrade cabin looks great just like the one I was in 12046
Ah, you must’ve been just along the hall! Agreed - the new cabin was much better than the first. Thanks for watching!
Ha, can you imagine my annoyance if I found out if was a one way mirror?! Haha, you've just unlocked a new fear for me...
Thanks for watching!!
It looks like it should be an annex to a family room! But the bathroom is nice! Oh myyyy😮
That's exactly what it is - hence all of the adjoining doors. You could book all 3, which would give you 2 cabins then a social space in the middle, or somewhere for the kids to sleep between the rooms. An interesting setup, for sure!
This cruise ship is beautiful.... the cabin he picked is designed for a solo traveler like myself
Everybody can have an "off" day but a day where everyone you can possibly come across is being so negative is officially a problem !! Well done for processing it and being positive about it all. Good for Scott and Pinot Noir ! 😂
Thanks for the support as always, Stephen! I agree - everyone can have an ‘off day’, but this was getting ridiculous by the end of it, haha!
The algorithm brought me here, nice video.....subscribed!
Daniel, thanks so much - I’m so thankful you’ve found me - welcome onboard!!
That first room you where allocated looked like a pantry or nanny room? Glad you where able to turn things around in your mind.
Ha, I thought exactly the same! I’m so glad I wasn’t stuck in it for 10 whole nights… Thanks for watching!!
Haha, I’m glad I can provide the entertainment! I couldn’t believe the room when I saw it - madness!
Thanks a lot for watching!
I had the same experience boarding a Norwegian cruise ship in Brooklyn; it was like they had never had a cruise ship there before.
Oh really? How strange! I’ve since cruised from Manhattan (my next vlog series), and I was SO impressed!
What microphone you using? I really need a new microphone for my next vlog.
Hello! Thanks for watching. If you’d like to see my exact ones, I’ve put them in my Amazon shop! :)

Cheers....I'll check them out
Sorry you had a bad experience with your stateroom.
What was the date of this cruise? I was just watching the next video and I think I'm on the Escape! 😂❤😂❤
Hey! I cruised on here in October 2023. If you’re looking for more from this cruise, head to my channel then click on the MSC Cruises Playlist 😊
@@FraserAtSea Thanks! Watching all the videos now.n
Sofa beds are usually only opened when we go to bed and but together in the morning so that the closet can be easily accessed
Yeah, I thought the same, but not in this case 🤦🏻♂️
I just got home yesterday from the Bahamas cruise on this ship and I thought it was fabulous!
Ooh, I’m glad you enjoyed!!
You got your cabin change that is a plus
Oh, I totally agree! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Just came across your channel, and it's really good. Nothing further to add. Have subscribed!
Ahh, thanks so much! Welcome onboard - great to have you here!
I just need to try resolve this cruise credit thing they do since I never even asked for it to be added on, yet they still have it 🤦
The more I see about MSC the more I don't want to go on them!! Great vlog
Thanks so much for watching! I’ve had some great cruises with MSC, but this wasn’t one of them sadly…
Thanks. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Hi Marilyn, thanks for watching, and hello Canada! Yeah, the first cabin was laughable, wasn’t it? Thank goodness I got a change!
That solo cabin with a sofa bed is unacceptable! Glad you managed to change to a different room, but disgusted that you had to pay extra for it! Solo travellers pay enough as it is! We really hope the rest of your trip is smooth sailing! ❤
Yeah, that’s what annoys me - paying extra to cruise solo and then being put in a room like this. Thanks a lot for watching!
Very classy choice of music for the sail out of New York. I liked the deep and moving vibes it gave.
Thanks very much!!
greetings from Brooklyn New York, I was on that same cruise in May and the main problem that I encountered was the rudeness of passengers while getting off the elevators as well at the buffet restaurant, now I don't know if this might be just a New York city thing or just a cultural thing, I do have to say the Maravillia is a gorgeous ship!
Thanks so much for watching - I’m really thankful you agree. Seems like a very mixed bag in the comments.
Thanks again!
Is this considered a "solo cabin"?
It is indeed - the solo cabin is the one with the sofa bed. The second room is referred to as a ‘deluxe inside cabin’. Thanks for watching!
I just crushed this exact ship last week and had blast❤
Ahh, thanks for this comment - I’m so glad you had a great time!
Ahh, it’s so great to see a real glowing review - this sounds like you had the perfect cruise. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us here!
Is that a solo room?
It is indeed - it’s a solo inside cabin!
Hi Fraser
Is this the solo cabin?
It is indeed! It’s the Solo Inside cabin!
Agree. That atrium area with that ceiling looks so tacky Las Vegas. Not my style. I’ll take the tasteful refinement of the QM2!
@@atomicrancher3745 ah, a very different experience to the QM2. That’s the role of my channel though - to show the whole spectrum! 😊
That was a really odd room no way could you sleep on that sofa bed glad you got your cabin changed it was a shame you had to pay extra for it too ,it was a lovely sail away out of New York too 😻
Hello! Oh, I know, how annoying?! 😂 I’m so glad the room was changed - I’d have gone mad in there over a 10 night period, ha! Episode 2 coming soon!
So sorry for the negative experiences! Great video though!
Thanks so much for watching!!
Sofa bed as a solo cabin....😬 yikes. So glad you were able to get it all squared away. Bon voyage.
Yeah, can you believe that for 10 nights? Oh dear…
Thanks for watching!
I love MSC but hated leaving from the Brooklyn port. It sucked.
Oh really? How come?
Was that a Solo room?
We were on it last year (Brooklyn to Bermuda). Never again.
Oh really - how come?
Looks cozy 😊
That’s one word for it, hahah!
This is the same place the QM2 SAILS from. Agree... that ferry is the best way to get to the ship.
You’re so right - exactly the same dock as the QM2. The ferry is excellent! Thanks a lot for watching, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
OMG! If this is how the cruise starts…let’s hope things get better.
Stay tuned - spoiler alert - the issues continue, haha! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!! You’ve hit the nail on the head with Costa there - how can anyone argue with those price points? Quite frankly, they’re amazing!
Ahhh, man that room just sucks! Thx for the warning.
Barbara, thanks for watching!!
Yeah, I will not complain about my solo studio on the NCL Escape on the 2nd leg of my big adventure again. A sofa bed, that's just not right man. I'm glad you were able to get the upgrade.
I’m about to go do that trip on Princess in a week
Oh, I reckon Princess will be wonderful at this - their onboard lectures are SO great before visiting new places. Enjoy that one - do check back in and let me know how you get on!
I cant believe they had a sofa bed for a bed in that room! You're new room is way better.
Ha, neither could I - I was gobsmacked...!! Thanks for watching, Terri - appreciate your support!!
