I remember a priest telling our class 6 decades ago that his first experience in the Heart of Dixie. He was new to a mission in a rural area so he went about introducing himself wearing his Roman collar. He noticed one young boy was looking at his collar. He asked the youth, "Do you know what this is?" pointing at his collar. The young boy said, "Yes sir, kills ticks and fleas up to 3 months".

My father was a Catholic priest, we were his secret family. While he obviously loved us, you can imagine the pain, shame, and trauma of not being publicly acknowledged by your dad, especially for 4 little girls.
Thank you Fr. Malachy, for your fidelity to Christ in your vocation, and thank you for being so honest about your personal struggle with celibacy and chastity as a priest. Hearing you speak so openly and humbly brought my heart a little bit of healing somehow.

I just have to say, as a non-Catholic, I’ve never in my life met a Franciscan or really any kind of Catholic Church figure… this guy is so completely down to Earth and totally not what I would have expected in the best way. All I have to say is this man has this amazing light and intensity in the very look in his eyes. It’s saintly, or namely, Christ-like. It’s intimidating and you know he is on fire for the Lord just by looking at him and his gaze so to speak. God bless and protect him!! I pray I can have that same zeal in my own life 🙏🙏🥹

    • @sdiazinc
      @sdiazinc 7 месяцев назад +3

I saw that light and gaze too which almost pierced into your soul, so much so you lower your gaze because of the intensity of his fixation to the real, beyond the BS. Christ can see through the chasm of sin and death and look at it head on, and sometimes, when you encounter holy people, you bow down like Peter and say, depart from me, for I am a sinful man.
And yet, knowing Fr. Malachi, he’d be the first to admit his own imperfections. But he remained true to his sense of the Will of God in his life, which gives him the conviction of being attuned to inauthenticity or a kind of discrepancy in your thinking.
He’d probably disagree, and he’d probably be right, which would only further more prove my point that he is a man after the Lord’s own heart and in whose heart the Lord dwells and chooses to manifest himself to others through as well.
Or that’s just the fruit of being close to God.
      Or all of the above.

Listening to Fr talking about his ordination was such a blessing because my confirmation was bang in the middle of lockdown and Covid in April 2021 in the UK and it was a ceremony stripped back to the absolute bare minimum. For a longtime after I felt very short changed and, yes, cheated. I wasn’t even sure I was properly Catholic. It’s something which I have had to make my peace with but it is refreshing and encouraging to hear Fr Malachy’s words

Some of my favorite quotes from this talk: “The grace to live the vocation is only there if the call is there.”
“I will make my heart, my hermitage.”
“Blessed is that brother who receives accusation unjustly, and accepts it, in order to continue to live in communion with his brothers.” -St. Francis
“He speaks about this love so sweet that it’s beyond explanation and this pain so deep that he wanted to die.”
“The evil of self Will is the same evil that entered into the heart of Adam and Eve when they grasped at this apple and said, non-servit.”
“Obedience is the way in which the Lord empties us of ourselves.” Fr. Malachi
It’s seems like the biggest message from this talk was:
Don’t run away from the tension… don’t run away from the struggle… don’t run away from the pain… beg and pray, and remain in His word, abiding in his love. As the branch is to the vine, be to Christ.
“It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”
    Shot out to Fr.. Malachi,
I used to help him in and out of his habit when he was still in the seminary and tore up his shoulder playing basketball! He’s probably still a hack on the court, lol… much love and respect to him though, a truly genuine man after the Lord’s own heart!

Father Malachy's family has been friends of my husband's family for decades, and he is our dear friend. Listening to him talk about how his ordination had to completely change because of the lockdowns stirred up so much sadness and frustration in me. Our family had planned to travel from Georgia to New York to be there for his ordination, so I was so disappointed when his mom told me That they were not going to be able to have a public mass. But now hearing him describe how beautiful it was to have their simple ordination, I have so much more peace. I know it did not affect in any negative way his vocation or his dedication to the Lord, so I guess I just need to be happy with that. 😊 We are so grateful for his vocation and all of the CFR fathers, brothers and sisters and their beautiful witness in our fallen world.

I can relate with the Fr’s ordination since my husband and I were getting married in December of 2020. We had the same restriction of 10 people. We were looking forward to the beautiful traditional celebration with family, priests we love and a choir we sing with. It was heartbreaking resigning ourselves to all the restrictions in NZ like him. As he said it was knowing that it’s going to be stripped and it was painful. We somehow managed to have the celebration we had planned for by the grace of God which I’ll never forget. It made us all the more thankful for the gifts we’re given since we can’t expect what we want all the time.

Just got to say how blessed we are to be part of the Catholic Church. I'm reminded of something Fr. Gregory Pine said in a previous Pints with Aquinas about how he loves that the Church has so many different ways to live the religious life and the CFR's definitely is different than a lot of other orders. Very obviously you can see Fr. Malachy's true enthusiasm and piety towards God. Compare this to the rigid monastic system in the East. God is infinite and there are infinite ways to love him.

    I should’ve been a priest
I was born an orthodox Christian. I hated going to church. My church is basically a social club that happens to do service in the morning without any true faith . No one actually believes in this stuff or at least no one wants to talk about it. Everyone just compares each other and just talks about their own accomplishments like it’s their god. I was this close becoming an atheist in the 8th grade because this was my only understanding of Christianity and I felt so behind compare to everyone else. However, in my deep sorrows and self hatred, I picked up the Bible and I started to read. I finally knew who Christ really was and I fell in love with Him. I constantly researched Christaintiy and compared it to other religions. I became obsessed with philosophy as well. I never learned this growing up in that church. Fast forward to college and I found the Catholic Newman center. This was the first time I found a community that actively talks about Jesus on a daily basis whether in the mass or outside of it. They had tremendous passion just like I did. And even though I was orthodox, I soon became a leader in the Catholic retreats. I’ve became good friends with the priest that was in charge. I never thought I’ll be friends with a priest.
At the time however, I was studying for biology. I’m a type of guy who’s very indecisive of what I wanted to with my life. I got this degree because of a vague interest in the human body but didn’t know what to do next. I couldn’t do medicine because my gpa was very low. I took two years off and just said ok fine I’ll just go to pharmacy school because that’s what my brother did. Pharmacy school was extremely tough and worse so through covid. I lost all connection with my friends back in Newman. Three years after that, I’m now 28 years old and unemployed, 250k in debt and I lost passion for this field that is saturated and working conditions are horrible.
I’ve come to the realization that while I was studying for biology I would escape to the Newman center because I never actually liked what I was studying just wanted to be with Jesus and His followers. But at the same time I thought I wanted to have some job that made a lot of money and the science of the body was somewhat interesting to me so I picked something in healthcare. The idea of being a priest left disdain because of my childhood in that faithless Orthodox Church. Looking back I should’ve had the guts to convert to Catholicism and switched to studying religion in some capacity. I was afraid I was not going to make money but in hindsight I never really cared about being rich. I just wanted Jesus.
Now I live in deep sorrows and regret. I have to make so much money just to pay off my degree. The only beautiful thing that I find solace is that now more than ever I pray so incredibly and intensely to our Lord. I thank God that He has given me an even stronger gift of faith. I also now taking my sins completely seriously. I know now my sin of pornography from the age of 12 has led to these careless decisions. I know God will redeem my wasted time… I just got pray, work , wait, and see what He has in store for me. If you made it this far God bless you forever.

There's a lot to take away from this discussion but this really stood out to me.
1:25:35 It was a comment in passing but I don't think he realized how much that actually impacted someone coming from an evangelical/pentecostal background. "Speaking in tongues" while I work. It's something that I've been battling with since I started my journey into the Catholic church and not knowing if what I was raised with when it came to speaking in tongues was the "correct way" or if it were heretical or just nonsense. I hadn't spoken in tongues in months because of this. It wasn't something I generally did in public but in private prayer and when prompted by the Spirit.
About a week or two ago I was with some of the Catholic young adults that I'd started hanging around and we were having an impromptu worship session and we got to a part of a song where we were just praying and sitting with the Spirit and I just started speaking in tongues to myself for the first time in months without feeling like I was trying to force it, almost started crying because it had been such an important part of my prayer life that I'd let go.
So when Father Malachy made that passing comment it kind of confirmed something in me that it was an acceptable action and something that can be done in your faith. It's not a big deal for some, but it meant something to me. Thank you.

    • @bluecomb5376
      @bluecomb5376 7 месяцев назад +2

Oh my, what a beautiful comment! Please be assured that speaking in tongues is a GIFT from the Holy Spirit and completely acceptable in the Catholic Church! There are many Catholic Charismatic Communities in the States and around the world, actually. They have received papal blessing. I grew up in one of them. Fr. Malachy grew up in another. Being charismatic in your spirituality is one way to express your love of the Lord. You will find that it is not a spirituality for others in the Church but that doesn't mean it is wrong. There are still many Catholics who find it unusual, strange, and perhaps even off-putting, but that is because they grew up with a different spirituality- say Ignatian or Benedictine perhaps. Peace be with you!

A tip for giving to folks on the street- if you have prepaid gift cards, 5 or 10 bucks, for mcdonalds or other places, in your wallet, that you can give people. They can get themselves something to eat but can't spend it on somethin or trigger them to go back to a habit (which can happen when you put cash in someone's hand even if they don't have an intention to use it on something harmful, and I can speak this from my own recovery experience). But of course always being led by the Holy Spirit, and if cash is what you have and you feel led, then do that too. :)

Yes there is. It’s been on EWTN. There are two. One is called (I think) St Francis & St Clare the other is just the life of St Franci. Both were excellent. I probably don’t have the titles right but give EWTN a call, they’ll help you.

This episode was so wonderful but shots where Matt had his glasses, with the beard, AND vest were too much. You look like a cartoon character, never do this again. This comes from a place of love because I think you are wonderful in every way but I want to share this video with friends and it was very distracting

You have many great interviews. This has been your finest. Exponential help to anyone listening to this. God bless you Matt and Thursday and our beloved Father Malachy! Thanks again. The bit at the end about how to bless and love the poor- so practical and helpful.

There are some things in life that are so painful, yet also so sweet beyond compare. For me being a mother of 4, and soon to be 5 I think of childbirth. It’s the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced but also the most amazing and beautiful. The moment to hold a new baby is hard to describe. It was so hard for me to understand the first and even second child why God makes us suffer so much to bring new life into the world. But looking at the saints’ suffering and then looking at the cross it makes more sense. We can turn our suffering into love.
