  • A lot of colleagues at our Tweed Valley Maltings will remember Jimmy Thompson, who retired in December 2019 after 45 years with the company.
On one evening in November 2023, Jimmy had a sensation of heartburn in his chest while at his home in Prior Park in Berwick-upon-Tweed. This led to a heart attack and, while his wife performed CPR, his daughters rushed to the nearby Goldstone estate for the nearest defibrillator.
Their heroic efforts that evening meant Jimmy survived against the odds, but prompted his daughter Claire to seek funding for a defibrillator for the Prior Park estate. After learning of Jimmy's story, the company was only too happy to purchase the defibrillator, which is in position now and located next to the estate's newsagents.
Recently, we caught up with Jimmy and Claire as they told their story of the evening and why they approached the company to fund the defibrillator for the Prior Park estate.
