From grain to glass, the company’s malts are certified and fully traceable, produced only from 100%, certified seeds of the finest UK two-row barley that have been procured by the company’s agricultural merchanting division, McCreath Simpson & Prentice (MSP), which has farming partners across England and Scotland.
After 160 years in business, Simpsons Malt continues to invest in state-of-the-art equipment at its two maltings in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland and Tivetshall St Margaret, Norfolk. 2ton? My father remembers growing golden promise decades ago, his recollection was that the yield would be 2.5 ton atleast, maybe 3 on fertile ley ground. We're in donegal Ireland, predominantly dairy farm, but have started growing barley again recently with mixed results. My father has been pining for some of the old varieties, golden promise is one he'd really like to try for next year, how could we get our hands on some seed? We only grow a relatively small amount of 30 acres, and maybe half might be tried in golden promise if we could get it?
