I love how Steven asks if the shefet monitor put the land on the battlefield and John confidently says no and the card shown says put it on the battlefield
Ok so hear me out. Halloween this year you have COMMANDERS playing the game, and Justin, Jonathan, Jeremy and Stephen start off in the command zone.
They missed the Worldspine Worm trigger from greater good, ie. Jon should have gotten 3 5/5 Worm Tokens, but overall Great game guys, y'all are my favorite MTG personalities online! Keep crushing it guys!!!
Make sure to not Cream first!!! "Never Cream First" needs to be on a Commander VS shirt
Jon's deck in this episode was so cool. Great design!
Yup great design that play group will hate you forever
Tobias's creature type was updated to Human Advisor. You could have run advisor tribal!
Justin floated 6 mana. 3 of it went into Estrid's Invocation, which got countered. That left Parnell with 3 mana, one of which was spent to swords Lullmage. Unsettled Mariner was promptly ignored, which is bad on both Steven and Justin and Unsettled Mariner is a mandatory trigger, and requires resolution.
I actually made a Tobias Andrion deck with the conceit that I would never cast my Commander, because he was just a figurehead. It had a positive win-rate just for being Blue/White Good Stuff.
You decide if you're paying life for phyrexian mana when you cast it. You can't change your mind after someone Spell Pierces you.
Part of cast a spell is revealing and Justin had not announced how he was paying for the spell yet it was Stephens fault for not waiting on him to finish announcing how he was gonna pay the cost of the spell
@@elitekillerz2504 In that case, Stephen would be able to not play Spell Pierce, because Justin had technically not finished paying its costs yet, so Stephen did not have priority.
At that point it would go to a judge ruling but they’re playing at a more relax level of play so if the table agreed on what happened was ok then I think they’re fine
@@DraconisMarchVII Good point Mr. Lawyer but its on stephen for getting too feisty.
I think that fourth mana was for rhystic study initially
Just scrolled and rewatched this episode. Miss you Justin parnell
I'm curious why Jeremy didn't use austere command to get rid of enchantments and large creatures. Would have stopped solemnity combo and given woodfall his last persist.
They'll be asking this question for generations to come.
He should have blown up enchantments way before that because of Vernal Bloom and Greater Good. If you give someone bucketloads of mana and card draw that player will almost certainly win. His own enchantments weren't important enough to justify letting John go nuts.
@@whaleofdarkness yeeeeeeep
@@Big_Dai It's not just Jeremy, all four of them missed that. Unbelievable. If that wasn't an epic fail, I don't know what is.
38:20 - While I do believe that Justin tapped 4 mana to shortcut paying for the Rhystic Study trigger, and I do believe that Stephen should have asked Justin to clarify how he's paying for the Annex before snapping off the Spell Pierce, the way Justin responded to Stephen saying "You tapped four mana and put it into play" just made it sound like he was being dishonest.
John Kendall Doesn't reeeeally matter whether he was or wasn't. Because his answer didn't sound honest? So what. No one would have had any question if Stephen asked how he was paying for the spell.
@@vengray8055
106.4a If any mana remains in a player’s mana pool after mana is spent to pay a cost, that player announces what mana is still there.
Justin tapped 4 mana and announced he's casting Norn's Annex putting it on the stack. He didn't say he was floating anything. Stephen was well within reason to assume Justin was using 4 mana and paying 2 life to cast the Annex.
Instead Justin just made a snarky and antagonistic comment saying he can do what he wants, but the rules disagree.
Yes, Stephen could have asked him to clarify how he's paying for the Annex, but the onus is on Justin in the first place to make his actions clear.
Rule 601.2b indicates it is on the caster to indicate how a spell with alternate costs (i. e. Phyrexian mana) is being paid for at the same time as the announcement and placement on the stack. Since this is a "casual" game and the only indication of how justin was paying for the spell was the tapping of mana (as he did not say, "i am going to float some amount of mana...), it seems to me that justin pulled some shady BS and jon validated it by siding with justin. Sorry stephen... You got bullied. If justin intended to pay phyrexian mana as a cost it should have been announced when he put the spell on the stack. It's not like stephen cut him off while he was casting it to counter. Shady bs...
@HaloRocks I partially agree. Although I would still argue that (as the actual rule states...) it is on the caster. This is a casual game. the only indication of how he was paying for the spell was indicated by him tapping the mana and casting the card. He made no mention of phyrexian mana until after stephen countered it and i feel if justin HONESTLY had any intention of using phyrexian mana to cast the spell it would have been mentioned AS HE CAST IT OR BEFORE. But youre right... this is the COMMON issue that happens in casual games. But I do feel a judge would probably not have allowed that based on the actual rule.
And i don't think Stephen bullies. I just think he likes to talk smack, regardless of whether or not he can actually back it up. I do feel as if jon and justin kinda gang up on him a bit in a not so competitively casual manner. IDK though, thats all just speculation. And Jeremy (Jeromy?) is...well...jeremy haha.
@HaloRocks I have also seen every commander vs game. Just because you have poor strategy and hold grudges and make silly game decisions does not make you a BULLY. Also every thing you described was of Stephen doing dumb things solo but then you use words like "team up" or "gang up on". Thats contradictory... When I use the term bully. I'm more refering to Jeremy and Jon's (especially Jon) general way they treat Stephen. I doubt they read any of these comments, but without saying too much, I just feel as if they kinda pick on him for 1 reason or another. Idk, thats just the vibe i get from their demeanor and some of the things they say. Making obnoxious and poor game decisions is not what I'm referring to when I use the term "bully".
I hate that none of them reacted to the Justin as Thanos picture cause that is comedy gold and it was hysterical XD
As of the day this video came out, there are 25(!) decks with Tobias as the commander on EDHREC. Somehow.
in case anybody missed it that is 15,511,210,000,000,000,000,000,000 decks
@@segramis4913 While I appreciate the math joke, that was my reaction to there being any number of decks, not a factorial. :)
Is there super disappointed face? I thought for sure that the parentheses signified factorial
There are dozens of them! DOZENS!
@@manphibian I don't know why anyone would want to make that anustart their commander.
Another great video as always went back and watched all the old videos from begining gotta say miss the 2hg format
Mariner should have made the path cost one more to hit the lulmage at 51:53 so Justin wouldn't have had the mana to cast the Darksteel Mutation
There's great debate regarding whether how Jon ended this game was scummy, but the actual scumminess was winning on the back of Vernal Bloom in a pod he knew beforehand would feature no other green decks.
your atemsis deck has been a blast to play so far.
Two and a half hours? Well there goes my productivity for the day.
1:09:41 Are we not doing phrasing anymore?
I cannot stop laughing at 1:09:40 and 1:10:40 literally phrasing xD also reminds me of the Episode of Sunny “The gang spies like US.”
I couldn't go full Sunny, but this was my weekly reference so I'm glad you caught it :)
@52:58 Doesn't John floating all his mana precombat mainphase, mean that if he goes to revive using his commander at beginning of the combat phase that his pool would empty? I am guessing he failed the portal three kingdoms textbox, which he admitted would likely happen.
14:30
start of the game
I'm gonna call bs on tapping 4 mana then deciding that "I was only gonna use 3 and pay 4 life" when Stephen played Spell Pierce
He might have been paying for Rhystic Study too, which he still ended up doing as far as I can remember. Stephen should've waited til Justin specified how he was casting it rather than slamming a response.
That study trigger off the aetherize lol.
Y'all got any of them deck lists?
Hi, can anyone explain to me how did he blow up everything at 2:08:21 ? He get persist but he can't get back a second time, right?
Edit: nerver mind I forgot the enchant xD
why did you guys take out the special effects when you gain and lose points during the match? I found them to be hilarious :(
#notscum, it's another John alt win condition. Stay true to you John. Accidental combo from other's cards is not scum at all.
last time a commander show did a game with Ruhan and Sygg the Ruhan went to town on the Sygg

Consequently, #TeamParnell
Pretty good ranking tbh.
00:39:15 Jon says "During my upkeep" then proceeded to resolve the trigger for the cycle which includes drawing a card. He did not draw a card for turn which could have changed his entire turn.
1:25:19 Why didn't Jeremy attack with Ruhan? It has to attack at random each combat. Am I missing something?
I'm pretty sure it randomly chose to attack Justin who had an ability that said 'to attack you must pay white phorexian mana'. If cards say you must pay to attack you can choose to not attack because you can choose not pay even if the creature must attack every turn.
Jonathan could actually have made use of this to attack with just his World Spire Worm and choose to send the rest of his creatures towards Justin and choose to not pay.
@@brandonlopina7733 Thank you for clarifying I missed that somehow.
37:55 that was a very fishy move....
i know im super late but if yo attack a player with ruhan and they have a prop esc effect out you can choose not to pay and then attack who you want
Ok this episode made me giggle so many times
There a Garruk's Horde in Suarez's deck?
I make custom cards for fun, and I made cards for all four of the commander vs guys. How do I get in touch to see if they'll play them for an episode or just to look at?
Please make sure you are putting the cards on the card reader
During the turn Steven mana leaked the Aetherise shouldn't he have had to tap all his lands during combat and so not have any mana for the rest of his turn? Or did I just miss something?
He taps them but I believe he still gets the mana. They tap, but the mana is still floating.
@@TheGeekyChef1190 but thats during combat so shouldn't the mana empty from his pool when he enters second main phase?
@@MrBoyler1 he tapped two Mana rocks and no lands
When stephen countered AEtherize all of his lands should have tapped and all the mana would be gone after the combat phase so he'd be unable to cast anything
He used the signet and sol ring. It wouldn't tap any lands
@@congregationmember oh neat didn't notice

to answer the question how many decks does Tobias have on edh rec its 25

Oof Stephen should still have his Nullmage Mentor thanks to his Mariner
#HandSizeTribal
shouldn't stevens lord of atlantis be on the top of his library after tutoring with the harborer? isnt that how the harborers work?
I saw that!
All this hullabaloo about Estrid's Invocation but Justin didn't bother to read that it only copies your own enchantments and then didn't pay to swords the merfolk. #Team Green.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I thought, "What enchantment is Justin going to copy?" I didn't think he had any on his field.
Came here to see Sygg River Guide in action.
4 mins in: “I don’t like Merfolk. Merfolk are boring” 😂😂
Jon play Epicenter next week. Teach them the meaning of scum.
Not Scum #TeamSuarez, if you want to blame someone, you should point to Justin for playing Solemnity.

Jon "I'm not playing an infinite combo" Suarez, Scum Lord
Get up get down with the syggness
Stephen cheated by putting Lord of Atlantis to hand when the harbinger only puts it to the top of your library, at about 1:19:00
@Star City Games
Hua tou was in Power Hungry
For the record, Estrids Invocation can only copy enchantments you control. 🤷
Came here just to mention this, card is not in fact Copy Enchantment
They catch it, literally a few seconds later.
38:36 That is pure bs from Parnell. He was paying 4 mana and 2 life for that spell.
Rhystic study allegedly
@@kingfuzzy2 What does that have to do with anything? He has to pay for the spell before Stephen can attempt to counter it. Even if Parnell decides that he was paying 4 life then Stephen should be allowed to take back the counter if Parnell hadn't already paid the spell was not on the stack yet...but he 100% was not doing that. Justin says he's deciding whether to pay for Rhystic Study afterward so in no way can he claim he tapped the 4 mana to pay for Rhystic Studies.
Stephen's counter attempt is weird either way cos Parnell has mana for it but either Jon should have drawn a card or that Norn's Annex should have hit the bin. The way it played out was 100% cheating on Justin's part.
agree with most of what youve said there but both players felt rushed so i think its both of their fault or neither of their fault
@@kingfuzzy2 It doesn't matter if it's Stephen's fault it happened, Justin used Stephen's mistake to break the rules and essentially call him an idiot while doing it. It's total bs, there isn't much more to say about it.
There is a judge somewhere in the comments that explains exactly why it's cheating if you really care.
Oh and why are you liking your own comments btw? It's kinda weird
i agree bad move on justins part. i dont know probably habit from early yt everyone did it i knew

Sygg really was bad luck to be chosen for this table. Pretty boring Commander among all this jank.
Just gonna ignore the Tobias huh
@@henrypendergast8108 Tobias was a dumb meme and the deck itself was a silly theme. Stygg was just Azorius Merfolk. That's really nothing special at all.
i swear if I dont see a picture with a myr dressed as a merfolk at the start of next weeks episode imma be real disappointed
That would indeed be beautiful
100% not scummy. Like any other combo that wins the game.
Is it possible to play a game of commander with you guys at GP Vegas?
It's only scum if you don't kill them immediately like within 60 seconds. Otherwise your watching them struggle and that's cruel and sadistic especially in commander.
1:09:40 John killed me xD
It's scum and scum wins games
*sigh*
Suarez.
I'm like 90% certain John can't do the trick he was doing with that cycler and his commander early on in the game. Cycling doesn't use the stack, so when you cycle, he gets the trigger to search for a land, but once that trigger resolves, he can't activate anything before drawing.
My mistake then. When I learned cycling a few years back, I was taught it doesn’t use the stack, and was never corrected.
yea the trick to it is that you have to hold priority on your own trigger because if anyone wants to cause you to shuffle or something else in response you need to be holding the trigger unless you are scummy and trying to bait improper response so that you can respond to the table

A fun game that was over the sec Jon gets his infinite combo and then drags out for 30 mins, completely ruined the episode. Need to add a points loss rule to prevent this, "If Jon uses an infinite = -4 points (does not matter how it is made and where "infinite" is defined as the other three players think it is "infinite" so Jon can't rules Lawyer his way out).
It wasn't infinite without Justin's Solemnity though, right? (I might have missed something though, crazy board state)
Ehh, I think he immediatly used the infinite combo when he could, and after that the game itself didn't really take that long, maybe ~10mins. He couldn't combo with Greater Good because he had decked out in that case. Anyway, #NotScum
Seriously, no one can stop Jon from leaning on and shaking the table every video now? Why did he start doing that? Or did they switch to a crappy table that shakes every time he touches it?
And aggressively flipping his hand over and over into his mic
Green gang
Scummy play when Justin changed the costs he was going to pay for Norn's Annex after Steven tried to respond. : \
Not really. There is a discussion about it above this. Stephen was too feisty and didnt wait for justin to announce what he was paying. Was mostly on stephen for getting carried away.
Technically Justin has to pay before revealing the spell unless it has an extra cost like sacrifice a creature
It's "by accident" not "on accident."
fingerling1231 No no. It's who cares?
merrow harbinger cheat in 1:19:30
Definitely #noscum.
Fun game at the beginning... i feel bad for justin's commander, never seen the light of day... and jon's turns were pretty long, they probably should add that to the rules for positive and negative points ...but overall, i hate games that prevent players from playing magic(for example, blowing up everyone's lands) ...kinda lame way to win in my personal opinion
The biggest Rule 0 I strongly dislike is hating on the person who has been behind the whole game. I end up telling everyone that plays with that person what #scum they are.
What!? You've never played Tuber Simulator?? You.. know it's fun right?
Jon should have sacked hou tuo before he killed stephen then casted it again for an extra point. Also feel bad for justin not playing his commander and losing a point, but lets be honest who would want to play a vanilla 4/4 for 5.
