Vauxhall Corsa D 1.2 A12XER 2014 P0171 DTC Investigated

  • car came to our garage with MIL illuminating on the dashboard after scanning the car the P0171 dtc was retrieved fro the pcm after thoroughly inspection and investigation the canister purge solenoid valve turned out to be faulty, we replaced the valve with the used valve without testing it for a properfunction, so the problem didn't fix so then we replaced the oxygen sensor, problem didn't fix, then we replaced the the injectors pack with fuel rail, problem didn't fix, so if we had tested the used purchased valve for it is functioning we would have not made this huge cost full mistake , finally we checked the purchased used purge valve for its mechanical operation and realised that the used valve which we had purchased also stuck open and is faulty. in the end we went for a genuine OEM part and purchased a genuine valve from vauxhall dealership and fixed the problem.

    I assume you can test purge valve by blowing through it?.

    Keep simple, blow through it, if you can blow valve is gone. Hope it will be quicker next time, thanks

    if you can blowing through it its knackered ! with no power to it will be closed

      @@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak me solved the purge valve with wd40, i spray inside the valve end fixed the problem with the purge valve

    This valve sounds too much. When you are in idle you hear sounds coming from engine

    is that what causes the ticking noise as well? My error is also P0171 in a Corsa D. Same Valve .
    Engine ticking from where the Purge valve is.

      This system is not used on Corsa D(diesel engines) this charcoal canister purge solenoid is used on petrol engines to allow evaporated fuel flows back to the engine through the inlet manifold by opening charcoal canister purge valve to burn out in the engine combustion chamber instead going to the environment.

      Okay! I miss understood i though you meant D for diesel.
      This solenoid or purge valve actuator only triggers Engine Malfunction Indicator Light and the DTC is usually stored for air fuel mixture lean, one ticking noise but very fast is normal it is when the engine reaches its operating temperature, you may hear this noise after snapping the accelerator pedal and leaving the engine running at idle, this ticking noise will continue for short time while engine is returning from snap opening throttle to idling then will stop it means that the purge valve is activated at crouse engine speed or wide open throttle.

      @@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak Thanks Yes it's ticking from the back around the Purge valve area. I will remove the Throttle body to get at this as it's difficult. The Code is P0171 "system too lean bank 1" and Engine light comes on. Changed Oil and AirFilter. Will change the Purge valve next and give a throttle body clean up with Cleaner spray.
      Only when idle the ticking is so annoying.
