Wake Induced Lucid Dream (WILD) Tutorial

  • Today I'll be giving a short tutorial on how to have a wake induced lucid dream. Wake induced lucid dreams, or WILD for short, are when you enter a lucid dream directly from the waking state. This method can be a little tricky to get down, and so I put off making this tutorial for a long time, but now it's finally here. Learning how to lucid dream using WILD can be done using two different variations of the method, one involving sleep paralysis, and one skipping it. While I personally use the second method without sleep paralysis, I decided to include both in the video for the sake of completion, since different people may prefer one over the other.

      Hey Tiph, isn't it still possible for me to enter Sleep Paralysis -> Dream Mode without REM? I.e: If I just come from work, relax on bed and get to the point where my body is numb and I can see the images appearing, etc.

    THE WAY I DO IT THAT WORKS VERY WELL: Hypnogogia is the phenomenon where when you're falling asleep you start to hallucinate: hear voices, and seeing images is the most common. You should try focusing on your senses whilst falling asleep so that you can realise it's happening. When you realise that you are in hypnogogia you will snap out of it but it's okay, you will be back in it soon. What you should then do is imagine a physical sensation on your body. I usually go for imagining rain falling on me, or a cat stepping on me or something. Whilst you imagine it, you will soon start to fall into hypnogogia and hopefully actually feel it. You can then start to imagine the environment around you, and this will turn into a dream and you will be aware of it.
    The reason that sense of touch works best is because you'll be able to control it the best, if you try to hear or see something there is a good chance that it will just morph into a non-lucid dream but feeling things keeps you lucid because it helps to ground you in reality, or in this case, into your dream.
    PROTIP: If you think about it too much you might accidentally wake yourself up by feeling your body lying in bed, but if that starts to happen grab an object or touch something in the dream, I sometimes start rolling on the ground (weird but works).
    EDIT: This works best if you wake up in an REM stage of sleep. I tend to go for about 6am, try to wake yourself up a bit so you don't fall back asleep normally, but not so much that you cant ease into it easily.

    Hey, so I tried this at 5:40 today but it wouldn't work so I tried using mild for the first time and was able to get in a lucid dream but was too excited to maintain it so it lasted like one second. Then when I woke up I stayed perfectly still for about five seconds and then I couldn't move! I opened my eyes and there was this weird emoji floating in front of me so I closed my eyes and waited for the paralysis to end. Pretty weird experience but it was cool.

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  6 лет назад +65

      In future, if you find yourself in sleep paralysis, that's the best time to practice WILD. WILD is pretty easy to do outside of sleep paralysis once you get the hang of it, but in sleep paralysis even if you don't really know what you're doing WILD works incredibly quickly and easily.
      Congrats on your first lucid dream, and that was a smart move trying one method after the other. A lot of people will just try one and give up - but really it's this combination of different methods that provides the highest frequency of lucid dreams.
      A great combination: Reality checks throughout the day, meditation at night before bed, wake up in REM and repeat the MILD mantra, attempt WILD, if you don't succeed then just go back to sleep (possibly after repeating the MILD mantra a second time).

    Something I completely forgot to mention in this video because I've repeated it so many times in other videos, you still MUST be in REM in order for this method to work. That means you should sleep for 6 hours (or another appropriate 90 minute increment) first like the other methods. You may have success performing this in an afternoon nap without sleeping first but that won't work for everyone.

      If i use FILD does the sleep paralysis chance increase ? I really dont want to get in sleep paralysis. It seems scary for me. Thanks in advance

    • @Tipharot
      @Tipharot  7 лет назад +29

      I personally never encountered sleep paralysis with FILD, but any technique that enters a lucid dream directly from the waking state may have a small chance of causing you to enter sleep paralysis. I emphasise small though, especially with FILD.
      Also, for what it's worth, sleep paralysis is nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be, so it's not something you should be afraid of. The main thing that makes sleep paralysis scary is the fact that 99% of people encounter it BEFORE they know what it is. It's not that the experience itself is that bad, it's more that if you haven't heard of sleep paralysis before and it happens to you, you'll think it's real and as a result be really scared.

    For people who are trying these techniques for the first time. Consistency is key. Keep Trying them everyday even if you keep failing. It will dramatically increase your chances of success. Another thing I like to do is keep a dream journal. This makes my mind focus on dreaming every day even if it's just for a couple minutes. As soon as I'd open my eyes I'd immediately write down what i can remember. Even if I dont remember the dream at all. I would still write that down. Hope this helps. It took me a little while to start lucid dreaming consistently. But, once It became clear to me how to do it. I was doing it quite easily multiple times a week. Its Such an amazing experience. Good luck.

    It was good you discussed both. People forget that their body follows their mind, not the other way around. Once your mind has relaxed enough to fall asleep, the body automatically follows, just as it does every night when you go to bed, so you don't need (conscious awareness of) sleep paralysis to WILD. Maintaining awareness is the only challenge. Thanks for sharing.

    I had a few lucid dreams, but I could not change the course of the dreams. The best feeling was when I was flying. They happen in the morning, just before I wake up and for that reason, they are very short. Ironically, I had more dreams where I questioned myself if I am awake or I'm dreaming and I reached the conclusion that I am obviously awake. I usually forget while asleep some of the recommended reality tests, such as checking yourself in a mirror or checking the time on your watch, or jumping. In order to have the lucid dreams, I had to think as often as I could about lucid dreams and do the so-called reality checks while awake (even when I know perfectly well I am awake).

  • @Thylazine
    @Thylazine 5 лет назад +1

    Really made sense to me thanks I’ve almost done this before it is often just how i fall asleep so this will be a natural transition to my dream world.
    I have lucid dreamed before in nightmares and from average dreams too with the reality check method since i was really little.

  • @jebcar9618
    @jebcar9618 6 лет назад +6

    I usually have that when I'm entering a lucid dream. I can't move my fingers so I can't do a reality check ( count my fingers ), I can hear this really loud frequency in my ears and does spots you see when you close your eyes get really colorful. When does simptoms stop I'm usually in a lucid dream or I wake up, it's like a weird transition zone. The scary part is that my lucid dream always starts in my bedroom and it looks exactly like it was when I fell asleep and it usually takes me a few seconds to figure out that I'm dreaming.

    Same thing happened to me too, I did WILD basically on accident. I just laid still when I woke up in the middle of the night, and I got into sleep paralysis and the vibration was so uncomfortable. No shadows or anything, just that I felt that I was sinking down into the bed. But the interesting part is that I felt the same thing just backwards and then I got an image of me floating over the floor and not the bed. Probably entered a non-lucid dream.

    This really helped explain some of my experiences with sleep paralysis. I didn't realize (Even though it seems pretty obvious now) that you can be in sleep paralysis, and experience it well dreaming. I have had it around three times, but all of them have been sensation and auditory based, my eyes have not been open. Its like a nightmare, but im dreaming that im in my room and cant move. I "wake up" and the dream was so convincing I feel like I had to be awake when it happened. I am pretty sure I just recently had my first visual sleep paralysis hallucination. Some creepy guy just sitting there, watching me. Woke up and scared the bejeebus out of me. Its so weird it usually makes me question my sanity, just because it feels so real.

    • @crimsonfied5329
      @crimsonfied5329 4 года назад

      I’ve had it a couple times, for me it was visual. My hallucination was a shadow moving side to side in the far corner of my room. That was like, a long time ago. Back then I was scared of the dark, so of course I was like “it’s a freaking demon!” And I freaked out, and desperately tried to move my body. I eventually slipped into sleep I think, with no lucid dream after that. A few years later now, I’m trying to get a lucid dream, and I think I might try what he’s saying in this video just so I can avoid sleep paralysis.
      However, if I do end up in sleep paralysis this time, I won’t be as scared, because now I know that I wouldn’t be visited by anything real. It depends on my point of view, and beliefs. I could say the hallucination was a hot dog wiener if I wanted to. I think I’ll do that next time! I might even ask the wiener for help to get into a lucid dream. I don’t know, call me weird or whatever. Lol

      It can be different for everyone. I know everyone says everyone is different when it comes to stuff with lucid dreaming, but it’s true. Some people say it takes 30 minutes to an hour to get into a lucid dream but I’ve done it in five minutes. In my opinion if you’re lying there longer than 20 minutes you’re doing something wrong. WILD is difficult to learn, but the more you learn it it starts getting easier to do and maybe that’s why it takes longer for some people, they’re just not as experienced.

  • @Inabiff

    I've being doing this since my early teens without actually knowing much about it until very recently. I'm 38 now, I remember trying to do this while awake during the afternoon when I was around 18, I tried to relax my brain to a point where there was no thoughts whatsoever and just allowed any images to come and go as they pleased and I never gave any of the images any thought at one point there was an image that decided to stay, the image was a silhouette if two people a man and a woman carrying shopping bags with large buildings over shadowing them.
    Around 2-3 hours later I left the house and headed into town and there was my Aunt and uncle who travelled unannounced for a visit walking through a car park heading towards me carrying shopping bags, it was an exact copy of the image in my head earlier in the day, that moment blew my mind.
    Has anyone had a similar experience?

    Oh my gosh, I almost don't even know what to say. This is /exactly/ what was happening to me for several weeks about two years ago. I would lay down for a nap and after about 5 to 15 minutes I would suddenly feel like I was in a wind tunnel, and then a dream would materialize right in front of me. Almost every single time this would happen I would still 'feel' like I was laying in bed. For me though it's not that trying to move in the dream would wake me (since I wasn't experiencing sleep paralysis), but rather that trying to move in the dream would make me realize that I was not only experiencing sleep paralysis, but the effect seemed to 'carry over' and I was unable to move my dream body as well. I have watched and read quite a bit of lucid dreaming content, but I've never heard anyone talk about these weird paralysis issues with the WILD method. I also know that I had heard of the WILD method in the past but had always associated it with setting an alarm for several hours after you go to sleep. I never realized until now that what was happening was a version of this method, and now with these tips I'm going to try to replicate those experiences. Thank you so much for making this video.
