  • Privacy is NOT about having something to hide, Privacy is Freedom.
Dr. Ann Cavoukian is recognized as one of the world’s leading privacy experts. Her Privacy by Design framework seeks to proactively embed privacy into the design specifications of information technologies and business practices, thereby achieving the strongest protection possible. In October 2010, regulators at the conference of International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners in Jerusalem unanimously passed a Resolution recognizing Privacy by Design as an essential component of fundamental privacy protection. This was followed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s inclusion of Privacy by Design as one of three recommended practices for protecting online privacy - a major validation of its significance.

Jeremy Bentham’s panopticon suggests that you can’t have both, purity and privacy.

    a) Cavoukian’s points were simple; PRIVACY = FREEDOM. She touched on a relevant heart-warming story.
    b) However, she basically said the same thing over, and over again and even told her audience to “trust me, I know what I am talking about.” Which as far as persuasive speeches go, is rule one of what NOT to do. She had zero facts and figures. No technical knowledge (or if she did, she left it out). She didn’t tell us how we can be secure. She just said that it can be done.
    c) I completely disagree. There is 100% zero chance of personal security. Every year, at least one cadet from West Point Military Academy (Army) hacks the Pentagon. This is a student with no experience! Breaking into private information is and always will be possible unless that information is known only be a dead person. Let’s say that the government creates a policy. Great! But wait! We as Americans are also very aware that the government at its deepest levels ignores all policies and treaties. So, I say good luck with your venture Dr. Cavoukian. I personally have nothing to hide and I don’t care. And you gave no facts of figures. You gave me no reason to agree with anything that you said.
