    Great videos Irina. 😊 Me and my fiancé want to eventually move to Finland so your channel is very helpful. Would you be interested in talking about the process of getting a job in Finland as a foreigner? Do you need to know Finnish or is English enough? Are they, ummm, selective (😅) about nationalities? I have heard that Swedes are rather strict about employing foreigners and it is hard to get a job there even as an EU citizen so we are a bit worried about how difficult it would be to move to Finland and get a job there.

    • @wanton7306

      www.infofinland.fi/en/moving-to-finland
      myhelsinki.fi/en
      There two sites should help you. Both sites are provided by city of Helsinki.
      People in Helsinki speak English quite well and you can you manage just with English in Helsinki area, I have co-workers that don't speak Finnish and they manage just fine. I don't really know how well people speak English elsewhere, but I think pretty well because we don't dub movies and tv-series here so we hear lot of English all the time.
      It is possible to get job only with English knowledge, but it highly depends on what kind jobs are looking for. I think example IT has many English only needed jobs. But learning Finnish will open lot more job possibilities. I don't know much being "selective" about nationalities but I work for small company and I have one Russian and one Chinese co-worker. I've read from newspaper that people with African and Middle-Eastern names have harder time getting job interviews.
      Money wise if you live in Helsinki area you can save lot of money by not owning a car. Helsinki's public transport was chosen second best in Europe after Geneva.
      RUclipsr Aleksi Himself has posted lot of videos about these things you are asking.
      Finnish might feel hard to learn because it doesn't belong to Indo-European language family like many European languages like English. But there are things that are easy in Finnish. There is no he/she there is only one word "hän" (spoken Finnish sometimes use "se" that means "it" instead of "hän") and language is very gender neutral. Finnish is pronounced like it's written, that means when you know how to pronounce alphabets in Finnish you know how about every written word is pronounced, it's almost one to one in that regard. In Finnish, word endings change depending in situation and it might seem scary at first but lot of those endings are actually same as prepositions in English. Here is video explaining that little bit ruclips.net/video/NmWzRuSELDA/видео.html
      If you want to go hardcore I think studying in Finland is still free for international students if you study using Finnish language.
      I live in Finland and I'm no Sweden expert but I do know people who live and have lived there have said that Sweden still has some remnants of a class system from pre-democracy monarchy days. That means more divide between the "poor" and the rich compared to Finland.

    • @SiberianGoneInternational
      @SiberianGoneInternational  4 года назад +1

      thank you for the compliment!
      I know a lot of people who manage to live here for many years speaking only English, but they're either in IT or have been transferred here by their international companies. For other job you're more likely to need Finnish, though I guess everything is possible
      I've hard there are cases of racism and you see it sometimes on internet boards etc, but in real life I wouldn't say it's noticeable, personally I never felt discriminated against and trust me, it's obvious that I'm not born here.
      I've heard that employers are a bit suspicious about foreign diplomas and prefer the local ones, but I've just heard the rumous from a couple of people, I wouldn't take that as a confirmed info.
      Good luck either way! Where do you live now?

      I was living in Miami for a year, so a bit far away from Minnesota :). The US is huge and apparently the states are like mini-countries, which differ from each other quite significantly, so I won't be surprised if my observations made in Florida don't apply to other states:)

    Haven't slept for a week? You seem surprisingly fresh considering. I slept only 4 hours last night and am a total zombie. If I don't get my 7 hours I'm more than usual clueless all the day, and my ears keep ringing like crazy.
    "Clock-in, clock-out" oh, that's how it's called? Nice to know. Yeah that's handy. I got lots of free days with that because my hours went sometimes real late.
    You are right about the no show-off, although there is something. And it has to do with cars and neighbors. There's this meme that if your neighbor buys a new car, it won't take long you develop the same new car fever. But from clothes and acessories it's difficult to tell wealth differences: people prefer to look common, trying to look rich is shunned as boasting. And very popular second hand shops (flea markets) are full of clothes, for women and kids especially: you can be fashionable getting all your clothes dirt cheap. We men rather wear our clothes to the end, so there's nothing to take to second hand shops, heh.
    You have very international background.

    Lack of show off is partly due to the Lutheran heritage and partly because pretty much everybody in Finland is poor.

    • @SiberianGoneInternational
      @SiberianGoneInternational  4 года назад +12

      I agree that the Lutheran heritage plays a role, but what comes to being poor - people in really poor countries tend to show off more. I've heard stories of people literally getting loans to get a Luis Vuitton bag. This kind of behavior is really not typical for Finns

    • @ImForwardlook
      @ImForwardlook 4 года назад +8

      @@SiberianGoneInternational Well, maybe it is so deep rooted in our mentality that we don't even notice it. I notice it when I think about my own behavior. I am obsessed with classic cars and have more than 30. But very few people know it because I try to hide it if I can. And I am not even sure why. In general I would say that it is because I feel inside that it would be wrong to boast. Besides, why would people even care to know? I feel that such things come into light naturally when you get to know someone better. Yeah, it is inside the Finns quite often that you should never boast.
