- Got a Senior Dog? Are you feeding your Senior Dog correctly? In t his session, Dr. Judy discusses the nutritional needs of aging dogs especially as it relates to Traditional Chinese Veterinarian Medicine. Senior Dogs should not be fed cold, damp food as this causes stagnation which interrupts the digestive process. Dr. Judy recommends warming up the food you feed to your senior dogs and cutting back some of the moisture content. As an alternative, she recommends feeding freeze-dried food which has been mixed with an appropriate amount of warm water. (Recorded on 10/05/2021)

Miyagi and I feel so very fortunate and blessed that we found your wisdom on the Internet. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything y’all do in the fur children communities.❣️✌️🐶🐾
I feed a home made ground raw that I warm in hot water or briefly sauteed to create a tasty juice. Fresh asparagus, brussel sprouts, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and butternut squash with fresh whole chicken legs thighs breasts livers and gizzards. Funny they won't eat the veggies when offered but they gobble up the "grind". Will be switching to turkey as they are coming into season. My older foxhounds 14+yo are thriving on their raw diet. I do supplement with Dr Harvey's raw vibrance just in case and they all get fresh eggs daily compliments of their chicken sisters. Sardines or mackerel for treats. Amazing how all the warts (big/little and ugly) and growths have vanished. So glad I found your channel Dr Judy. My big bite grinder and your books were the best investment. :))
Dogs are Carnivores... they are designed to eat meat. Plant-based ingredients aren't good for them. Think ancestral... they'd kill the pack would eat. The top dog(s) in the pack would get the small amt of organ meat as a delicacy. The rest would eat whatever left and whatever berries were seasonally in the stomach of the kill. Where do grains and veggies and fruit come into this picture?
Lions don't eat grass either.
It would be raw, too... good for you for knowing that.
Just my humble opinion.
Hi, Dr. Judy. May I trouble you to explain/list exactly why kibble is bad for your elderly dogs? How heavy metals found in “natural” pet food can impact seniors? (Lead, aluminum, arsenic, barium, chromium, selenium). Thank you! Members Mark/Diamond Pet Food
Lol. I don't know how I haven't lost my mind with all the conflicting info out there. I like to gently warm my dog's food. They're 13 and 11. It's barely above 100 degrees (or less), very gently warmed. Or I do cold from the fridge in hot weather, which is wrong also. I do high moisture content due to kidney disease. I love raw but do mainly gently cooked. My one dog is a hot dog, I thought cold was better. Or I'm getting mixed up because I'm watching too many of your videos, lol. I don't know what to do right now.
Thank you 😃👍🏼
I have 2 senior toy poodles, 10 & 15. We just saw a new hollistic integrative veterinary vet. I would prefer not to make their food weekly but can you recommend any wholesome, organic, and balanced premade options or what should we try? We can get locally or I can order online. The older male needs to gain a few lbs and the other ones could lose a few. We are have been feeding them raw & or freeze dried when traveling. The vet told us there is not benefit to raw after 10. I have no idea why they would recomend canned when it is SO processed. Thank you!
What is the best way to warm up food for a dog with kidney disease stage 1 and anemic? I have her on wet food, k/d, and homecooked food. Thank you very much.
FYI-For the last few videos I’ve seen on YT Facebook hasn’t been showing that you’ve been on as I know you were because the YT copy was available for me to see.
Great information! Love your videos.
This was valuable as always. I am a PupLoaf mom!😆❤️ Thank you for what you do!!
Dr Morgan I feed my cancer pup Bones and Co which is %95 meat bones and organs and %5 veggies and natural vit and min. I appreciate this video because I found my girl would not want to eat her raw at times and now I think I know why because it was cold. The last couple of times she has consumed it was at room temp so it all makes sense now. Whats your thoughts on adding things like Milk Thistle and TT? I have been recently giving my girl Raw goats milk and goat whip so this is how she gets her probiotics. I also freeze the goats milk and goat whip into little treat size portions but now after listening to your lecture cold items like this isn't a good idea.
Glad I watched this video, but room temperature and a proper warmer temperature are not necessarily the same, by any means. So now I need to start heating up my senior dog's raw homemade dog food once it's "at room temperature" because room temp is too cold for him
Facebook won't let this mornings video play. "Not available at this tine". Then the whole post disappears.
Thank you for this information. Can we give our senior pumpkin? Will it help with his upset stomach? I will forever give my dogs temperature right foods.
Yes
Could an old dog (13) suddenly have liver failure due to the cold stagnation? I feed my dogs raw but I always heat up bone broth to pour over it so that it’s not cold when they eat it. But I’m not sure it was warm enough.
That's a great solution. No, that wouldn't happen suddenly - it occurs slowly over time. Cancers and other chronic diseases also occur slowly; we just don't notice them until they hit the tipping point.
What if you have been feeding it too cold? And your dog is now regurgitating throughout the day? Also you didn’t tell us how to warm the food?
That's what I'm waiting to find out.
@@DKane73 she did say. She pours hot water over and mixes it through then stick her finger in it. That's what i heard., & what I do.
@@the_p.p.e. that's what I do now too
Would you suggest heating wet prescription dog food before serving?
If you are taking portions out of the refrigerator, then yes. As long as they are room temperature you should be okay.
What is best to help with digestive stagnation or prevent besides warming up food?
Add ginger or the herb Bao He Wan.
@@judymorgan4241 great thank you. Raw ginger or cooked?
@@PatchOPitsTherapyDog Either
I've gone to taking breakfast out of the fridge at dinner time, and dinner out of fridge at breakfast time. So, it warms on the counter, and it is RAW... I've not really been concerned over bacteria growth in that time, would you agree, or I asking for possible trouble ....?
I wouldn't have a problem with doing that. If you are concerned, you could also put the container of food in a hot/warm water bath 30-60 minutes prior to feeding (I know I would be challenged to remember to do that LOL).

Could not see anyone’s comments either
My puppy is the same way 😂
Dr Judy-Miyagi doesn’t eat raw but wouldn’t cold canned food do the same and cause stagnation? Just asking as I feed Miyagi tripe from a can.
Yes. Any type of cold food would do the same thing.
@@carolinecapobianco9265 thank you. That was very helpful.😀🐶🐾
My seniors eat raw....
