For the power bank, a good one to check out is "INIU 140W Power Bank". One of the reasons I switched to this one is because I am *also* playing around with having a highly portable electronics EDC pouch, and this power bank can run a Pinecil V2 soldering iron over USB-C PD at its full performance spec. And you can charge your HT off of it at the same time on a lower power port.
Thanks for sharing this. I've started carrying 2m and GMRS HTs with me pretty-much everywhere. We're in a severe wildfire risk area and I need a way to be in touch with people in my neighborhood if something happens while I'm out, even if it's just grocery shopping. A kit like you described (though my needs are much more basic) looks like a good way to go to keep things organized and easy to carry. I just used your link to order one of those EDC cases.
Boafeng Tech have the large batteries for the UV5R family which have USB-C ports. They also have a charging cable for the older large UV5R batteries with a charger port to USB-A
Kinda wish I'd managed to get my hands on those tiny Alinco HTs from around two decades ago. But two decades ago I was young and comparatively poor. Hindsight is 20/20
I’m thinking about how Helene hit just to my west and how amateur radio is standing out in all this. Some of the stories I’m hearing are around hams out there depending too much on their permanently mounted shack gear which meant nothing when the mud and water poured in. These kinds of go kits will mean a lot. I’ve been testing one of those roll up Slim Jim antennas and even from inside the house I’m hitting all the repeaters I would want to hit. Would love to see your take on an HF go bag.
I just followed a link back to this from a comment you left me on another video. :D You've got a fantastic back catalog. I'm sitting down and exploring a bit of it tonight.
Love and appreciate all the content - do you have a video on laptops for ham radio? I have a janky pc/tablet that just doesn't cut it for Winlink. Any suggestions for minimalist laptops? Gracias!
@@KM4ACK Thank you! I actually have 3x of that exact pouch so wanted to check. Been a big fan of Maxpedition for years. In fact Im feeling really old as I realize that I think I bough my first one in 2004 :(
Love my D74's but I just checked the pricing on replacement batteries -$109!!! That's insane. Batteries America has thenm for $54, but still that's insane for a battery. I wish the D74/D75 was more ruggedized than they are (similar materials for hte case like the VX6).
Jason, saw your comment above about charging directly from 12V...where are you finding that info (specifically for a yaesu, but I'd be interested about other radios as well)? A quick check of the manual didn't yield anything... Would be super cool, but I'd rather not trial-and-error it!!
Look in the specs section of the manual. The FT5 manual for instance tells me that EXT DC Jack will take 10.5-16V for charging. The D75 has an imprint on the DC port cover that reads DC In 13.8. Please don't trial and error. No one wants to release the magic smoke 😜
Red Tip Barrel Connector - amzn.to/4d8z61Z
Yellow Tip Barrel Connector - amzn.to/3zTMMQ8
12V USB-C Trigger - amzn.to/3Y96lOt
5.5x2.1 Barrel Plug - amzn.to/46doiNI
5.5x2.1 Barrel Cable - amzn.to/3xW92s5
I actually have an update for my bag coming out... once again, great minds think alike!
But are we using the same bag again??
@@KM4ACK not this time

dude, clutch, thanks
I’ve been intending to figure out how to charge my HTs from my Bienno. You saved me time and trial-and-error with this video. Thanks.👍🏼
Cool! Glad it helped.
Be sure to check that the HT will take 12V direct. Some will and some won't.

I like modular. Cool!
Thanks David
Would love an in depth course on the D75/D74

I wish the bb link worked with other radios like the vero Vr-n76 that has a tnc so can connect them to iPhone for RadioMail and APRS apps
You might reach out to the developer of bb link. He might have a solution.

HFT have/had an USB-C adapter that fits on Hercules tool batteries.
Nice overview video, God bless.
Thank you kindly
you know you can hook up your laptop via Bluetooth to the d75 handheld, to do digital modes on FL Digi,
I have connected the laptop via Bluetooth to the radio for Winlink and APRS. Not sure you can use the TNC for any of the modes in FLDIGI though.
What pouch are you using. I can see on your Amazon list, but curious which one that is :)
This one amzn.to/4dmAjmw (affiliate link) is the one shown in this video. Big fan of the Maxpedition pouches.

Battery prices have gotten out of hand.
I like how you put this together but I find a better solution without a laptop.
It really depends on what I think I need for the day. No point dragging a laptop around that won't be used. 😀
