- Here is a quick example of how to turn on the 4WD on a 4th generation Toyota 4Runner.
*It is good to turn on the 4WD in Hi once a month to keep the parts in functional order.
My 2019 4Runner was stuck in 4 low. Thanks to your video I discovered you're supposed to be a neutral when shifting in or out of 4 low. Thank you!

@@aaronj9595 yup. My driveway is a little bit downhill so let it roll a little bit down I put it N and then 4L and it engaged 4L. No beeping anymore.

Apparently you have to lock the differential according to my mechanic I tried that before didn’t work 🤷♂️
I just purchased an 07, and when I put mine into 4Hi the lights stay blinking and it doesn't seem to engage. As for 4Lo, the alarm sounds and I can't turn it off. Any advice? Also my diff lock doesn't seem to work.

At a standstill, my vsc off and another vsc light blink and stay on when I try to put it back from h4 to h2. In neutral in my driveway. What am I doing wrong? I can’t get it out of 4wheel drive. I can clear the lights by turning the truck off then back on.
Should I switch it back to 2 wheel when driving?

No max speed in 4H, unless you locked the diff

@@sleeks9939 it’s the max speed that you can shift it in or out 4WD, not the speed you can drive in 4WD. Check your manual again.
Can you daily drive (city, interstate) in 4hi with the center dif unlocked ? Debating on if I should get a v6 or all time 4wd v8.
You can drive in 4H (center diff UNLOCKED) any day of the year. It's essentially AWD, if you wanna call it that. This is a better system, with more options than FULL TIME 4WD. Better gas mileage.
4Runners with this setup, offer 2H, N, 4H, 4L, AUTO H, AUTO L.

You can either use 2WD hi or 4WD hi in this 4Runner, 2wd for better fuel efficiency and 4WD for better grip. But most more basic 4WD like the wrangler before the select trac was introduced, you should not use 4WD on pavement

My 4Runner doesn't go into 4Lo. The 4Lo light keeps on blinking on the dash. Is there anyone who might know how to solve it? There's also a light below the difflock light on the dash.

Happyman9271 hi, you can shift to a 4H and 2W any time. if you car is running, they recommend to shift at 30 mph and drive on 4H no more that 60 mph. Now to switch to 4L always neutral first and then 4L.

When I want to drive in 4Lo, do I keep it in neutral or shift it into drive while in 4Lo?

whats difference between 4hi and 4 low why would u use one
4 high allows you to drive on the highway with all 4 wheels moving. Perfect for a snowy or rainy day, but I believe its limited to 62 MPH 4 low is for steep and rough terrain at slow speeds.
@@shadowstrangler1 perfect explanation, I was trying to figure out the point of 4Hi if 2WD was for normal daily use and 4Lo was for slow speed conditions
@@MoNeenja and if have a V8 like I do. The 4runner is always in 4 high no matter what and the only other selection you can do is 4low.
4L is geared down for extra torque for pulling or keeping the truck at slow speeds. Kind of like having an extra lower gear beyond 1st.
