  • From my Florida trip in October 2018: from engine start to cruise altitude, watch as I take-off from Tampa International on my way to Winchester, Tennessee on this beautiful day. As always with map overlays and ATC captions.

    I don't have the opportunity to see many light aircraft at busy airports. You handle them exceedingly well. Everything you do is very professional and a pleasure to watch. You are always completely prepared for your trip as would a commercial pilot. Really enjoy your videos flying the Bonanza!

    Martin, nice video...when you were taxiing out of the Signature ramp you passed the news helicopter that I fly on your right...and I agree, the ATIS at TPA can be way too long...safe flying!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  5 лет назад +1

      Cool - thanks for pointing that helicopter out.
      Regarding the ATIS, that's an issue not just in TPA but at all the large airports in the US. WAY more information than necessary, which unfortunately means if you miss any of the interesting bits of information, it takes forever to get a second chance.

    Enjoy the videos. As with previous comments I enjoy a take off to landing video format. Taxi, take off until you get handed off to your final cruise altitude then pick up the approach to landing. I fly a M35.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 лет назад

      Thanks for the feedback, Michael. So you are looking for ONE self-contained video showing the highlights of an entire flight? Most of the time I haven't done that because on almost all my flights, there's at most one airport that's interesting - and for my videos I try to focus on those take-offs and landings that are a bit out of the ordinary. It also keeps the videos at a length that more people are willing to watch. But I'll keep your suggestion in mind - in fact, I'm working on the "Miami Arrival" video as I'm writing this, so I'll make sure I include at least a little bit of my take-off from Flagler in that video.
      Regards, Martin

      For reference take a look at PD1 Drivers Chanel, as an example.
      I find all the ATC communication that you and the videos on other channels make my ATC communication much better. A lot of times I’ll listen to them at night and a good way to relax.
      Great work!

    Good grief; all the closures! A shame they didn't "close" the airspace to the birds. November continues to be usually cold & especially cloudy in the Great Lakes. Going to be tough to maintain currency.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  5 лет назад

      Yes, a lot was closed at TPA that day. But why do they have to announce every single one of the closures on the ATIS, on a field with a full-time tower? If a taxiway or runway is closed, Tower/Ground won't send me there - case closed. Announcing the closures during the ATIS makes the important parts of the ATIS harder to obtain, especially when single pilot (which I know is not the norm at large airports).
      Out of curiosity: Where in the Great Lakes region are you located, Ronald? We just returned from Tennessee today, a day earlier than planned due to a snow storm predicted for Iowa tomorrow... Personally, I'm more a fan of the warm season. :-)

      @@martinpauly Sorry for slow response. Been busy. I'm in south suburban Chicago. I agree at a towered AD, you wont be routed to/from the active on clsd twys. LOL; guess since the robot has to read it vs a human, it must be OK.

  • @ozziepilot2899
    @ozziepilot2899 6 лет назад +5

    A nice courtesy to the Tower by not making an obvious call due to you expecting a response to hold due traffic on short final, that's how to keep radio clutter and ATC workload at a minimum.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 лет назад +1

      It's a suggestion made by our Tower staff here in Cedar Rapids a few years ago, during a pilot meet&greet. They looked at it from a safety point of view. It's obvious that "hold short" is the only response, but controllers are only human and can make mistakes, so by not reporting "ready for departure" when someone is on short final we can eliminate a small but non-zero probability of error.

    What headset/mic combo are you using, and do you have an opinion on how it compares to the Bose A20? Love your videos.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 лет назад +1

      It's the Halo from Quiet Technologies. I really like it. It's very light and puts no pressure on my head/ears. Noise attenuation is very good, though not as good as an A20. (But then the price of the Halo is less than half of the A20).
      I originally bought the Halo for the additional headroom; it replaced an active noise reduction David Clark at the time. I've been using the Halo ever since.

    Hallo Martin, wie immer - schöner als selber fliegen, man braucht nicht selbst zu schwitzen. Bald haben wir alle gößeren Plätze durch. War der Vektor zum Ende nicht 340? - der Kurs im Video scheint mir fast etwas größer :-) LG Marc

      @martinpauly  6 лет назад

      Hallo Marc - ja, am Computer zu "fliegen" ist weniger schweisstreibend, aber schöner würde ich es nicht nennen.
      Du hast gut aufgepasst - ja, "heading 340" war die Anweisung, den habe ich vielleicht auf 345 aufgerundet um etwas näher an Land zu bleiben. Den Rest hat wohl der Seitenwind von links gemacht.

    What app are you using, Garmin Pilot? Have you tried ForeFlight? Always interested why pilots choose which app.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 лет назад +3

      Hi Peter, the app I use is WingX Pro. When I first used it (with one of the very early ADS-B receivers), WingX Pro was - to my knowledge - the only app available. I have tried ForeFlight once, but I'm so used to WingX that I had trouble with it. Nothing bad about ForeFlight, it just has a different user interface in some ways.

It's a little laggy on the ipad we have it on, but the fore flight is on an iphone so can't say if its the ipad or the app. The garmin pilot seems to have some things fore flight doesn't have like auto loading on arrivals.
