    I love all of your videos,
    Thank you for taking the time not only to post them, but to create them in the first place.
    Aside from a quite novel and awesome concept, they've all been well executed right from the first one (even though you say you're now using better equipment).Good on episode one, improving ever since.
    You are very informative and factual. And besides, people should realize... it's far more difficult to identify unmarked iron on the fly and at conversational speed than at home with reference books, google, etc. You're doing great, and believe me, the vid's cant come quick enough!!
    Thanks again, I really can't say it enough

    I recently bought an AB&I riverboat skillet off eBay. It's a good cooker, with a very smooth inside surface. The outside has a rough cast for a rustic appearance. If you look up "Frank's Backyard BBQ Cast Iron Skillet Restoration #1", you can watch a man restore a beautiful AB&I #15 skillet with a clipper ship design on the bottom.

      @RaoYiLan 5 лет назад +1

      BTW, my guess about the AB&I Collectors series is that they were made in the early 1970's. They have an Americana theme (covered wagon, Statue of Liberty) which was popular in the run-up to the 1976 Bicentennial. Also, the round font they used for "made in USA" has a very early-70's look.

Thanks!

    • @castIroncookware
      @castIroncookware  5 лет назад +4

      There are always quite a few pieces that I have to leave behind that I would love to take with me. When I first started collecting, I would buy five or six pieces, keep the ones I wanted most and sell the rest to finance my next hunt. The hobby would pay for itself while producing a few pieces for my collection. Lately the budget has been going toward production equipment instead of cast iron. Hopefully this will change in the near future as I get a few things squared away. I will try from now on to say something like " this one is a keeper" , even if I'm not able to keep it. Besides, if I took it all home with me what will be left for everyone else? Also, thank you so much for your encouragement. It really means a lot to me.

      My family came west to Wyoming, then Washington state from western Oklahoma in the 1930s, and my mother and aunt both loved their cast iron. I have a nice little collection, including both the flat and tall waffle irons with bases. Got my aebleskiver pan a few years back at the Union Gospel Mission Thrift Store for less than ten bucks. If you keep your eyes open, you can still find treasures out there. Best find, long rectangular griddle at a yard sale that mostly had junk and broken kitchen chairs - lying on the grass underneath one of those seatless kitchen chairs, for one dollar!

      I think people use that term to mean it’s still very usable, despite damage. Probably something you would take camping, without worrying about warping over a flame. Or something you would let anybody use. Last time I let somebody use my favorite cast iron.. it ended up in the dishwasher!
      Too damaged, and then it’s just decoration. I think most cast iron aficionados use their best stuff the most. Part of what makes cast iron unique.

    Why are they called Spyders?

    • @castIroncookware
      @castIroncookware  5 лет назад

      I think it is because the original frying pans were used on an open fire or hearth and they needed legs to keep them stable. They had a rounded bottom with legs and a long handle that gave the resemblance of a spider. The term was used in very early advertisements and it has stuck ever since

    We really enjoy your videos. Is it possible to better sync the audio? It either causes a headache or stomach upset with the audio being out of sync. Thank you for considering this.

      My computer is becoming unable to handle the editing process. I didn't realize it was as bad as it is until after I uploaded the last video. I am scrambling for a way to replace it as soon as I possibly can. I may have to hold off on new videos for a short time until then. I'm sorry that the quality has taken a downturn.

    You would be surprised, how many kids today will take cast iron cook wear to a scrap yard and sell for pennies on the pound that they Inherited. 🥺 But on the other hand you can buy the same item at scrap yard prices on the pound. 🤗 I got a bunch of cast iron skillets, pots and dutch ovens for under $10.00 and that include lids.
