I WILL BE DAMNED!!! You actually watched the song WITHOUT PAUSING IT, made some comments on the go and then watched it again for the technical commentary.
I have no words. You should take this page permanently out of your boy Vanderhorst's book. It's just a much more refined and sensible way to do it, man.
Come on, Wave. Realistically, especially for songs you've never heard before in your life, how can you possibly truly take it in if you're pausing every 2 mins?
I'd think letting the thing wash over you the first time so that you can THEN reflect and react makes the experience less disjointed for you and the viewer.
But what the hell do I know? lol
      Great reaction this time, dude!
And as for your Deep Purple question. Come on, homie. Most music heads don't care about the hits like that. They're gateway and everything, but It's the WHOLE ALBUM, my guy. I was talking to Phil Anselmo from Pantera back in the day about a couple of tracks they never played live from "Vulgar Display of Power" that people really wanted to hear.
Later that night he let ME sing "Regular People" with him; a song they never played before that night, at my request. The who;e show was better for it! lol 1992 was a hell of a good year, my boy. Believe that!! lol
And the first time I remember seeing Yoyoka play she was 2. The first time she was on a stage playing with her parents she was 4.

Straight up. I be echoing your sentiment, on all points. She could sit with any band IF THEY'D LET HER IN THE DOOR. Being only 13 y.o. (& just barely), they might not let her in a venue to perform. & yes, I'm amazed that a "classic rock" drummer like senior Potter (if that's even his real name) isn't versed in the plethora of rockin' Deep Purple tunes. I suspect, & this is just a guess, Wave doesn't possess a brutally fast V8-powered American street terror as is being sung about. I do, and I not only hear this music, I feel it, live it, understand it, am one with it.

If you're a musician in a band starting out a high-energy old-school rock song like that, what she's playing is exactly what you want to hear on drums. She's got the power and push, but also there's something about her kick drum that makes you just want to lock in with it. Obviously she's steady and powerful all over, but there's something about the kick that, if you're a bass or guitar player, it makes you want to stand up and salute.

It is such a joy to see and hear her greatness, yet I’m without words to describe it. Ssooooo special of a life. Sooo thankful I’ve been fortunate enough to become aware of her abilities. And what a bonus hearing both Robert Plant and Ian Paice rave about her and show her respect.
The reason you know no other songs is you’ve never sat and read the album covers.

Great reaction and when Deep Purple wrote this song, they had a vision that 51 years in the future a little girl would introduce you to Speed King and let you know that they have a lot of other songs you probably need to listen to (between 1968 and 1974 they releases at least 140 songs (some covers), some were great, some not so much, but they laid the ground work for the coming of metal. 1972's Machine Head (get the metal reference) was one of their best albums (Smoke on the water, Highway Star, Lazy, Space Truckin', Maybe I'm a Leo, Pictures Of Home (drum intro), Never Before).

I guess this song spells out what we already know of her... in capital letters....
She's a M-A-S-T-E-R of the drums already. I'm not even talking about her age, cause I really went past that part two years ago.
Oh, and no wonder you're also an SoaD fan (me too!!!).

Glad Yoyoka is schooling you on what you should be listening to! I love this cover of hers, along with Kill the King these videos demonstrate how capable this young girl is of sitting in with any band she chooses and not just fitting in but actually enhancing their sound. What's more amazing is that she can also adapt to any style of music effortlessly !

I've often marveled at her eclectic musical tastes. Supposedly, she picks the tunes she covers. What 8 year-old Japanese girl, other than Yoyoka, rocks out to the breadth of hard-rock she does? I think none. I think she's the only one. A fun break from her intensely technical playing is to watch her cover The Stray Cats. The look of joy she displays is worth $$$.

You should make yourself intimately familiar with Deep Purple’s complete discography. Richie Blackmore laid the foundation for generations of metal guitarists who followed, and Ian Pace is the Buddy Rich of rock drumming. And don’t get me started about Lord and Glover.

Hahahahaha.. I just realize, there is an American doesnt familiar with Deep Purple songs, classic songs from 70's.. 'Speed King' is from the album 'Deep Purple In Rock'.
This song originally belongs to Deep Purple Mark 2 (2nd formation are late Jon Lord/keyboard, Ritchie Blackmore/guitar, Ian Gillan/voice, Ian Paice/drum, Roger Glover/bass, which is the best formation rock band ever, according to me). Deep Purple's guitarist is Ritchie Blackmore, one of not many legendary rock guitarist like Jimmy Hendrix, Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page.

On albums released circa 1970/1971; albums that marked the transition from hard rock to heavy metal (albums such as Deep Purple's "In Rock" & Fireball" and Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" & "Paranoid") drummers such as Ian Paice & Bill Ward sometimes played with a slightly jazzy feel. Yoyoka can handle this jazziness with a level of skill approaching mastery.

This is very clean - there's surprisingly little variation between the original and her cover. The only time I caught any significant embellishment was on was the fill on the final "rockin to the east and west", but only because the album version probably one of my favourite parts.

I'm heartened by your appreciation for Deep Purple's guitar player: Ritchie Blackmore. He is indeed phenomenal. I saw DP play live in the early 1980s. Solid performers. Compare DP's Highway Star to a modern incarnation, Chickenfoot's version with Satriani playing. Satriani's a virtuoso, one of the top guitarists in the world, and I don't think his version is nearly as good as Blackmore's. I regard this as a testament to just how good Blackmore & company were in 1971!!! Sadly, it seems Blackmore knows just how good he is & he's not friends with humility. Of course, if I could play like him, I would forgive myself just about any personality defect that came along with such talent. Always fun watching you react. Now that Yoyoka is here in the U.S. maybe you'll get another chance to play with her! Keep up the good work & video production. Cheers.

as someone that was in High school when smoke on the water and made in Japan was released I just want to say, welcome to the Deep Purple rabbit hole! We spent many nights smoking pot and playing the stereo loud! Truly a one of a kind sound for the time...l Plus we also Had YES Fragile and Uriah Heep Magicians Birthday to fall back on!
