I like to imagine when Tchaikovsky was composing this he was just screaming that he needed more power until eventually someone just lost it and wheeled in a cannon like “sAtIsFiEd?!” And it just stuck

It's kinda funny,, Tchaikovsky's goal with 1812 was LOUD. He wanted church bells and cannons because you can't get much louder than that. If C4 or Nukes had been invented in Tchaikovsky's time, you bet your bottom dollar there'd be holes all over the landscape around St. Petersburg

    • @crabboboi1938

even funnier is that later in life Tchaikovsky hated the song because it was loud like hes not the one who put the canons in the song

Imagine Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" concluding Kubrick's 'Napoleon'. Imagine Napoleon struggling for breath on the last bed he will ever feel, him standing on a cliff on St. Helena, him looking at the horizon as the sun slips into the Atlantic, his raised arm leading a column of men into battle one last time, his horse rearing, his saber shining, even as all of Europe brings his empire to an end. And before he slips into the void, he utters the name of his true love. "Josephine." He sees her as he saw her when he was but an ordinary soldier, a foreigner in a France that he would one day call his own, a man in whom ambition found an avatar. Just the thought alone makes me shiver. If only Kubrick made his film for all of us to love.

No, this piece commemorates a battle between the Russians and Napoleon. The Marseillaise was used here to illustrate the French army.

This song is originally about *Russians overcoming of Napoleon and liberation of Motherland from French army* . Music narrative: French offense - Russian defense, than oppisite and again - multiple times. At one moment French army enters Moscow and Russians burn it for the purpose of continue to fight and show that they ain't gonna surrender. Partisan war starts then Russian army regroups. And finally - *Russians enters Paris. Victory!*
P.S. At the end you can hear another Russian masterpiece - part of Glinka's "Славься" - "Slavsya" (Glory verb).
