    I feel Edwards and the BBC did a deal for him to plead guilty. Otherwise a queue of people would have had tales to tell in court about his behaviour and what was overlooked due to his seniority. As you say Professor all because he could read from an autocue.

    Just so people know. When Edwards was arrested, the BBC were instructed by the police to keep it quiet while they were carrying out a thorough investigation. It is standard practice to keep someone on full paid leave in that situation. As letting it be publicly known would undermine their investigation and open the door to Edwards claiming a future trial was prejudiced against him. However, the real issue is the inappropriate behavior he engaged in towards various junior staff members over the years. That went without consequence.

  • @edwardbaran9326
    @edwardbaran9326 2 месяца назад +7

    Well said…I imagine what’s in the media about the Edwards story is not the half of it. The way the BBC continued to pay him, protected him (and gave him his 40k pay rise) when they knew full well he’d been arrested for the most serious CP should lead to the BBC’s downfall. People will stop paying the licence fee in disgust. Even the initial Sun story last year about him paying the teenage boy for obscene images and DM-ing teenage boys and young BBC staff would surely have been enough to fire him for bringing BBC into disrepute. There must have been a morals clause in his contract.. there must have been !! But they didn’t take these options …..tells you everything you need to know!!

So they could have feedback. I could never get over how not very bright they were. Having been involved in creating & promoting safeguarding policies and ensuring they are adhered to the BBC has show the truth of who they are. They don’t have a clue when it comes to safeguarding & child protection. They don’t even know where to start.thanks again Tim, you always have great information

    It would seem to me that he had "form", as an employee, prior to the first revelations being brought to public attention. I suspect that those less senior might well have been disciplined, even fired, a lot sooner for such serial misbehaviour. The BBC is not the only employer or organisation, whether public or private, to pay lip service to its own "whistleblower" and "dignity and respect" employment policies, to name but two, especially when it comes to complaints about those in senior positions from those in less senior ones, and especially when the former are considered to be indispensable or more difficult to replace than the latter. In many cases, such supposed protective policies often appear, therefore, to be little more than cynical window dressing and "box ticking" exercises rather than an honest commitment to professional integrity.
