I love when Denji and Power decide to “get smart” so they put on glasses and think they’re way smarter all the sudden. Fucking hilarious man
Yeah loved how he acted like a genius back then 😂
Best part was that their attack was actually smarter than their previous attempts, but still not good enough
I mean they set up a 3-way attack and their execution was pretty good tbh, Denji even thought about not making a noise and took off his boots before jumping
in that short amount of time, they did more than most ''clever'' people in anime but the problem was that their opponent was just on another level altogether
@@gorkemaykut5230their problem was they were fighting a washed up Ackerman
they did get way smarter tho

Yeah, everyone needs to get on the Dandadan train before it's cool.
Bro, Dandadan is my JAM. Everyone was like “yeah, the creator worked on csm, it’s pretty insane,” and then it was, but it’s perfect. It’s wholesome and horrifying, romantic and dramatic, and it kicks ass. EVERYONE GO READ DANDADAN BEFORE AN ANIME GETS ANNOUNCED!
Kobeni is such an underrated character. People hate her because she’s “a coward” and “badly written”, but she’s literally just normal. The reason she’s normal is to contrast from the other crazy characters. She’ll freak out in a horrible situation as the other people are just chilling. She’s meant to tell us how crazy the others are without shoving it in our face
I love Kobeni because she is cowardly since she is the most normal while simultaneously oddly being the most dangerous in some cases.
It's just like that old dude said. You won't last long as a devil hunter if you don't have a few screws loose.
Do people really hate her? I think she was the best precisely because she is just a normal person in the middle of this madness and make the audience realize how ludicrous all the situation is.
Kobeni is not normal.
Kobeni survived facing Devils tho, and she lived solely to get her next paycheck and bonus. She is 100% not normal at all, despite her panicking.

It may be something small and not many would notice but Aki had different smokes in the finale's post credits scene. something usually not done by a smoker that's dedicated to a brand as their own, something in him changed that made him swap.
What the fuck
I noticed that, mainly because I'm a smoker and I was curious to see what type of cigarettes he was smoking. I don't know the names of the types in English, but he switched from light/white filters, like the ones from Himeno, to heavy/red ones.
I believe that this is the result of the Curse. He only has 2 more years, what's the point of smoking "healthier" ones?
@@tefoca I saw it more as a sign that he was letting himeno go. In one of the earlier episodes himeno says he smokes that brand because it’s the one that she smokes, and so now that she’s dead, he’s smoking his own

Yeah, I mean he simped so hard that he... well, I'll let you read the manga
I actually think Chainsaw man lived up to the hype, and rightfully so. Amazing work amazing adaptation, and as always amazing manga
I didnt read the manga before, had unreasonable high hype and expectations, and it still completely shattered them.
Every episode is a work of art, except maybe ep1, but making a great first episode is just incredibly rare. And it still managed to have me invested in Denji in 20 minutes, soo...
Same. Only people who don't think that have only seen the anime, and don't know what's coming for the story. Most people who read the manga experienced the whole story within a few days to a week
@@Revealingstorm. Lol, an a manga reader it didn't live up to the hype not because the adaptation was bad but it ended on a bad term. No way those 12 episodes of shits and no development deserved that hype. All the people hyped the anime out because they thought the season will be 24 episodes or they were in the heat of the moment of manga's new chapters.
The animation could have been better if they had spent money on the animation instead of making 12 eds with better animation than the show.
I think the real reason people didn't think it lived up to the hype was because that whole damn season was full of absolute bangers.
I'm sure someone has already pointed it out, but that 2 minute scene of Aki's morning routine actually was in the Manga, it was just 2 small panels though. Your point still stands, they took two small panels and made it into a beautiful 2 minutes, giving insight into Aki's life and character.
inb4 "achktually"
A-AAA-AAARTUOLI.
I'd say too that letting the anime slow down and enjoy Aki's morning routine, and how Denji fits into it, sets up to beautifully contrast the arrival of Power in the very next scene.
Power is chaos. And thanks to this one choice in telling the story, we are shown that Aki and Denji's peaceful mornings will never be a thing again.
@@polkadi Very perceptive.
That is true, but I hope you read my post up a few comments. I actually (sorry) _got_ all that from those two panels, and it makes me wonder _how_ other people read manga. Like, I never need a show to slow down or speed up for me if it's an adaptation... not to such a degree. I loved that scene and others like it, but I see people using such examples to make it seems like original Mangas are somehow "less."
I know most don't feel that way exactly, but it sucks when such a great read comes along and some say "nah," because they're "anime-only."
I really do think people should try to make an effort to check out both whenever possible. After all, sometimes the anime version strays. I couldn't even _imagine_ being a Fullmetal Alchemist reader then watching the full first anime, complete with an ending not made by the creator. It was still good, but holy hell was Brotherhood so much _more._ My experience with Zetman, though... jeez, I don't even wanna talk about that one.
When you add all the time they wasted doing that you could've had a whole new episode

For anyone unsure about the English voice acting, it's awesome. Denji just saying "yess" when asked about Makina is awesome, and Power sounds like she's from the medieval period.
the only difficult role to cast was Makima and they fucked it (of course). she just sounds like any generic girl who tries too hard to sound sexy with way too much intention in her voice.
jap va did it right: very soft voice that intuitively sounds pleasant but the more you listen to it, the colder it sounds bc she always sounds _the exact same_ no matter what she's saying or under what circumstances she's saying it. Perfectly portrays her mysterious, distant and somewhat eerie vibe.
But she's lying dude. Makima being a twist villain makes all the build up around her just a waste tbh@@bexclue3007
@@laurie1183 First of all: it's less of a "twist" - it's literally all about the build up. She is very questionable from the very start. It's hard to read her, even harder to figure out what exactly she is but she's clearly not human and she's clearly got her own agenda and she's clearly ruthless, cold and manipulative. These are all things that are set up from the beginning and are shown with consistency.
To consider the reveal of what she is exactly a "twist", you'd have to still consider her a "good guy" at that point to begin with - which would just be a result of awful reading comprehension.
But more importantly: Makima is an extremely enigmatic character. Both in the manga and in the anime. It's who she is. As I said before: she's hard to read. She's shrouded in mystery. She's composed and in control all the time. Towards other characters, she's both charming and distant at the same time. How she speaks should obviously reflect that - which the jp VA does perfectly. As I said in my previous comment: her voice is soft yet monotone and emotionless. Which makes her sound both nice and cold at the same time.
American VA makes her sound like a basic woman who talks thinking: "This is how an attractive, confident and seductive woman must sound, I'm sure." So generic.
@@bexclue3007shit take
@@bexclue3007 that's just japanise voice acting in general, it all sounds the same, they are alien to what westerners consider emotions in voice.
All I'm gonna say is that CSW lived up to my hype. It's mix of slow and fast paste, it's mixture of lovable and brutal scenes and how it takes you on a path to a decent into madness. I love how this anime uses it's hard and dirty OST to create not just plane and boring gore, but brutalistic emotion that can be felt through the screen. What a great show!
So there is nothing more to say for me other than: It's nuts or nothing!
chainsaw woman lmao
slow and fast paste lmao
Makima terrified me from the start, she’s clearly manipulative and not inherently good like idk bruh it’s hard watch her (which I guess is a good thing) as I expect her to just rock up and murder all the good guys cause she’s had enough.
I like the interpretation. If your really interested definetly follow up on the manga, if you can wait for the next season, good luck to avoiding spoilers, personally next few arcs get wild compared to this.

The moment where she recalls the snake in that way, that's the moment I truly fell in love with the show. So happy to see someone else appreciate the epicness of that moment.
When it comes to "good animation," I was actually surprised that one of my favorite scenes is just the entire opening scene of the episode when Himeno has Denji at her apartment, as she is drunkenly going about her routine walking around the apartment and all the (ahem) interactions with Denji that follow. It's all just mundane shit, but it's animated so staggeringly well and realistically that it draws you into the situation. I love how almost all these characters feel like real people who are, admittedly, half out of their minds. Like Aki acts like the typical aloof, brooding shonen lancer character, but often the mask cracks and you get a genuine reaction out of him. The only character who I could describe as traditionally "anime" is Power, and given that she's not even human it makes sense that she isn't realistic. And even then, I'm usually annoyed by "lol so random" characters yet I cannot help but adore Power's egomaniacal chaotic dumbassery, because while she herself is not realistic she still exists among realistic people who react appropriately to her shenanigans.
This is an anime where the protagonist goes straight for nut-shots because that's the best way to win a fight. That's pretty much the best summary you could give it.
It should of been me
not him
Its not fair
Another thing is just the scene of Aki getting ready in the morning. It’s not animated particularly amazingly or anything, but that scene actually isn’t in the manga. It’s filler, but it actually adds ALOT to Aki’s character. I never really realized it until I watched super eyepatch wolf’s video on chainsaw man, and he was completely right. It’s kind of sad watching that scene. Seeing aki’s life being so meticulously calculated, and how there’s nothing that’s specific to him anywhere in that house, whether it be posters of movies he likes or pictures of family. There’s nothing there except paperwork for his job on his fridge. And it’s really sad when you realize how much he undermines his own quality of life just for his job and his goal to kill the gun devil. He doesn’t realize he should be spending his last few years of his life LIVING instead of obsessively chasing something so unhealthy to chase. Which is why I agree with super eyepatch wolf that it’s the best anime filler of all time.
Also power is amazing and her growth throughout the story is phenomenal. Chainsaw man is a story about 3 weirdos learning how to be human together. 2 of them literally learning how to be human because they aren’t human, and one of them learning that the experience of friendship and human connection is more important than an obsession with revenge. It’s quite beautiful.

I read the manga back when it was wrapping up, because it had just been announced it was getting an adaptation, and my daughter freaked out about it. She had been reading it for well over 2 years, and praised it pretty hard, so I binged it. It's a solid manga, I really enjoyed it, and was cautiously optimistic for the anime adaptation. I agree that the anime is really doing an amazing job with the cinematic choices, the little pauses, the slow downs, etc. MAPPA has really been doing a great job lately, and it feels like the producers really care about getting the vibes the source materials were going for; and they'd probably be my favorite studio at this point if it weren't for the way they treat their employees.
Future video idea: I noticed that we're getting a lot of anime movies in 2023, it's a cool topic for a video.
MAPPA gets a bad rap but it's an industry problem not a MAPPA-exclusive problem. MAPPA is actually the largest anime studio so of course they pick up more projects than other studios do and it's not fair to say they specifically overwork their employees based on number of projects alone.
@@bentheechidna really? It’s actually the biggest now? Damn, and here I thought they were just insanely good slave drivers 😅
people should stop associating animation quality to studios a lot of mappa anime looks like crap compared to csm...
CSM is just literally the outlier since the team was so dedicated and was a freelancer magnet, Ryu Nakayama essentially nailed cinematic anime while Hayashi said he wants to do that with AoT he has done nothing close to the likes or hints of that close to what the CSM team led by Ryu nakayama's vision with exceptional talents of Tatsuya Yoshihara is simply superior , we wont ever get this quality with AoT MAPPA unless Ryu Nakayama takes the helm from Hayashi , hayashi is simply too mid even if you gave him time his past works speaks volumes of his capabilities as director and its nothing close
and Gigguk has a voice and with that responsibility he gotta stop meme-ing about (budget = animation quality) cuz a lot of people starts to believe that... and stop generalizing animation quality and bind them to what studio housed it... but rather the talents that works on them, there are studios with their own style and grow talents built from that style and culture like Ufotable ,KyotoAnimation , TRIGGER and last not least Studio Orange. these studios can be asscociated with what quality of anime they produce , but others like Bones, Pierrot , WiT , MAPPA , TOEI co, etc they basically different studios divided into teams with different styles and dedication , time, quality, talents that come and go and no culture of helping each other out or just basically have the full force of the studio make one anime at a time would be nice but it aint working that way for them so basically split teams and those teams basically way different to each other... in this case theres NO MAPPA style , its the specific team's style and the core MAPPA staff like Nakayama and Yoshihara will continue to make better quality anime outside the studio their work is good not because its MAPPA🤷♂
one easy case of this is BONES doing mob psycho with mind blowing quality and MHA done shit and its not because of time
Bones Studio B made Mob Psycho s1-s3 while MHA is done by Bones Studio C totally different teams but under the same ' studio'

I can't remember if I've ever heard someone voice a character with low intelligence which sounded this realistic. He didn't just sounded stupid in a funny way like most of the times but he actually sounded stupid in a realistic way. I truly just love the way he got voiced and that strangely got me into this anime.
"Stupid" is a relative term. Yeah, Denji's kinda dumb but he's also uneducated and has little experience with how people in the modern world act. Raised to live like a dog.

Either that or Tanjiro was just sick and tired of selling charcoal. Either way, your life perspective changes drastically when you live for other people instead of yourself.
That is understandable, you have a point. Though i did not quite get what you meant by "cynical cycle of indulgence", would you mind explaining it?
Not really, you could either turn out fine or become a serial killer with no empathy. Flip of the coin really.
Most people with hard past are assholes.
@@kanishkarvs6259 Of course. It's basically what happens when parents give their kids whatever they want whenever they want it. In life, we usually don't get what we want (especially when we haven't worked for it). It's in our human psychology that we obtain real satisfaction when we achieve an award from the work we put in. If the reward is given without any effort, it creates a cycle of expecting a reward for doing nothing, which is not how real life works outside of the parent's control. Now we have many entertainment mediums (looking at you Twenty One Pilots) saying how hard "adulting" is because we expect everything (entertainment, tasty food, expensive housing, etc.) to be given to us with little to no work on our part. It's a cynical cycle of expecting things we want to indulge in without putting in the work or supporting others.
@@captaiawesome2260 That's a horrible situation to be in but its a different context to the shock of seeing your family's dead bodies as a child. Garnt's point is that the dark aspects of the story doesn't really reflect to the character's psyche. Which is ok, he just mentioned it to compare it to the tone of chainsaw man.
Also, just because a person appears to be strong, always kind and enduring doesn't mean they actually are. Traumatized people who "don't seem like it" are usually suffering in silence. Can't romanticize resilience. Your great grandpa probably was a good man but ig my point is, that's also not to invalidate how other people's psyche are affected by horrible situations. It's not to say that they werent raised right or is a bad person deep down.

Also that scene where Himeno drunkenly goes about her business after bringing Denji home. Every frame in Chainsaw Man is worthwhile.

Seriously, the VAs chosen were pretty perfect. Makima's voice for instance I thought was very effective. She has that soft, almost benevolent tone that I could easily see why Denji falls to her. That is what makes Makima terrifying: her voice, the artificially rehearsed smiles she does, and her total detachment from the other devil hunters. Every scene she appears in she controls.
Alongside that, you have beautiful visuals and crisp fight scenes. Really while you could argue MAPPA has done some bad things, this feels like a labor of love.

Musician here! The MUSIC AS WELL, not enough people are talking about the sound design and music that underlies that incredible cinematic feel. (Spoiler warning from here on) - The music that rested gently under Himeno’s death scene made her vanishing from existence feel both bitter and also serene, it was perfect. It really highlighted the emptiness of the moment, the lack of blood and gore. MMM I have a musician seizure over this show every time I head the music, beautiful, delicious
Yes!!!
(also a musician lol)
Making most of the soundtrack be thinly textured gives just enough context to make the world feel alive without adding so much extra detail that it starts to feel cartoonish (minus the obvious metal riffs whilst murderizing lmao)

The CGI looks insane I don't know why people have a phobia of CGI just becuase other shows are so bad at using it doesn't mean it's automaticly bad
I think it's precisely because of that reason that people judge it everytime. And most often than not, they will immediately be thrown off once they see it, regardless of bad or good. I suppose to some, cgi is just automatically bad in anime which I definitely disagree
@@kaitohill watch cgi denji vs katana at train scene. it is so good
@@hafiyfiyirfan6976 Oh yeah I have, it's so cool. Tbh, most of the time, I hardly even notice cgi in this anime, probably cuz I don't really care if there is. But yeah, it looks amazing and Garnt said it best regarding the difference between both mediums
look man, i love the anime to death but let's stop pretending the cgi in chainsaw man is some god sent gift to humankind. the cgi in chainsaw man is ok at best and really bad and jarring at worst. there are moments where the "classical" animation is combined with rotoscoping and cgi and it's really hard to tell which one is which. those scenes are incredible but on the other hand... there are scenes where it's just really obvious that it's cgi just from the way it looks and the way the characters move. as much as i hate to admit it, the latest seasons of Love Live (yeah, a fucking idol show) has the best cgi in the anime industry. go and look a few clips from the recent seasons and see how flawlessly it blends with the classical animation style. the cgi in chainsaw man is not even close to the cgi in love live and you know what? that's ok. yeah, it sucks that the cgi is at time really jarring in chainsaw man, but it is what it is. the rest of the show is really solid and those few shots of bad cgi shouldn't substract from the overall show BUT there is also no point in dennying the fact that at times, the cgi in chainsaw man is really bad. if we grew complacent and just accept things just as they are, things will never improve. there is no point in lying to ourselves and the studio that the cgi was flawless. 'cuz it ain't and if we want it to improve, we need to let them know. saying the show sucks because of those few frames of bad cgi is not ok but criticizing the show for it and talking about it, it's ok.

as a person who has read the and currently reading the manga. The anime has done a great job adapting it and adding its own spin on things to. the 2d animation is smooth and the cgi looks good epically when they blend together
Wtf did you watch, lol? CGI looks good only there's no CGI
Same here. Been following the manga since the last few chapters of part 1 were airing. Everyone who finds this season of CSM underwhelming will be very surprised when the rest of the story is adapted
Legit. I have a few problems, but they're basically nitpicks.
@@rowgesage936 S1 was
The 2D & 3D segments were blended so well that I honestly don’t have any complaints.
I feel like Denji’s Devil form being CG actually makes the anime over all better than it would if it wasn’t CG. It’s unique and makes him stand out in battles, letting everyone know that this is the main character
The cgi in the show is overall gorgeous
I think katana man’s cgi looks a lot better. Probably because the darker colors of his outfit blend better with the usually grey city back drops.
I thought the cgi was sick because it looks metallic if you know what I mean, like its an actual fucking chainsaw on his head. The Katana man being CGd too reinforces that idea, lets us know that they are just weapons of destruction.
One thing I disagree with is the point about Snake disappearing and it "only working in anime form".
Fujimoto always made a point to have the devils appear from off-screen and often breaking through the panel lines themselves, as if they're invading the manga through the 4th wall.
It's one of the things that stood out most to me while reading, he really managed to give them that otherworldly feeling
Basically, the way the manga did it only works in manga form.
And the way the anime did it only works in anime form.
Fujimoto's paneling is so stupidly good.
Yeah exactly. Fujimoto used the medium of manga and used it to make the devils feel otherworldly in a way the anime could never replicate. The anime does the same thing in a way the manga could never replicate, that’s the point of what he was saying.
@@FFKonoko you can do reality bending 4th wall breaks well in anime like in the CSM manga. Case in point, go watch Because of You from Honkai Impact 3. MAPPA could have done something similar by shifting aspect ratios then having the devils appear from out of frame. It's not impossible.
@@jjpasay no, but it's highly situational. They'd need to have the entire series at a different aspect ratio just for a few shots, which would be cool but wouldn't be worth it. Alternatively you could intentionally play with the aspect ratio, but unless you're building the scene around that it comes off as pretty forced. Like yeah the thing is coming from outside the aspect ratio but you literally *just* changed the aspect ratio so you could do that. So it doesn't really work.
The Best part is that as far as I know. The anime didn't even get to the "then things got crazy" part of Chainsawman 😅
Not even close. It's literally just a taste of the crazy. The next arc is going to pull a fast one on people too, and that's when it gets insane.
Yeah, you got a bit of crazy with parts of katana man arc but parts of the next arc are literally “what if sharknado but explosions” and it keeps up that insanity without sacrificing character depth or emotion

Reading the manga second is honestly the best way. It's like reading the book after watching the movie. Sublime.
This is so true💯
Imo it's more satisfying to see something you read be taken care of in spectacular fashion. But that's only if the adaptation is good of course Lol I never watched Tokyo Ghoul due to friends telling me to not bother then I read the manga. Quite happy with that decision.
Watching the anime before reading the manga should be the standard. Reading the manga after watching the anime helps me picture in my head the fighting scenes better, read the character lines with the voices of the anime and in general for me it enhances the experience, making the manga better, instead of watching the show after the manga and thinking "but that's not how it was done in the manga".
@@PersonaPrime Agreed. I tried reading the manga and some scenes honestly confused me. The panneling, the storytelling, everything is perfect, but I personally need some extra cues sometimes, like sounds, to understand what the drawing means.

Man, it's so sad that the Mexican dub of CSM became such a meme worldwide, because apart from that one scene, everything else is so good... That scene is funny tho

One of my fave scenes from the whole 1st series was drunk Himeno carrying Denji back to her place. There was SO MUCH DETAIL in just the way she was swaggering around, how they so accurately animated Denji's weight and the heavy thumps of body hitting object that I must have gone back and watched it 5 or 6 times before I was willing to move on. Totally unnecessary but added SO much into their dynamic. It was just beautiful
12:42 Fun Fact the person who animated this scene actually used himself as a reference doing this kick. The animator is Benjamin Faure.
3:52 That is 213% what Goku would’ve done…
9:20 Let it be known that no matter how much moaning an anime might have, the Spanish dub will always make it a million times more s*xual-sounding.
And the French dub will never sound anywhere near as romantic as the Spanish dub even though romance is Paris' entire thing.
I'm very, VERY new to anime. I've watched Death Note and AoT. That's it. I watched through the first season of CSM and felt... drawn to it. I wanted to know more and didn't feel like waiting, so I read through my first-ever manga and was hooked. I adored it. I would reach a chapter, go to a discussion reddit from years back for that chapter without spoilers, and read along other people as if I was along for the ride. Finished through it and it was just great. I've heard many people say it's just 'alright,' and even that it's mid or cliche but I found the world, the characters, the grittiness, the style, the characters, the writing, the story, the characters, and if I didn't mention it, the characters so appealing. I've never been hooked like this before and I'm wanting to rewatch the anime again now that I've read through the manga. And the soundtrack is beautiful. I dunno. I know I'm new to this stuff but... I don't think I've felt this strongly towards a series before, anime/manga or not.

The amount of work and passion that was put into this adaptation is simply staggering. Like Gigguk said the anime does not replace the manga, it adds to the source material.
So, for people who think "this wasn't bad, but it's not like there was a lot to explore in one season" you are right. First season is just a top of Iceberg, and the rest of the story will blow your mind, starting with season 2.

I wouldn’t consider myself a manga reader but chainsaw man part one (up to ch 98) was the first manga I read in full. I literally couldn’t put it down. I was so stoked for it to be adapted into anime and it’s even better. And there’s so many parts of the manga I forgot, seeing it animated hits SO hard.
The incredible thing about the anime is how it ever so slightly expands on the most chill or mundane scenes like Aki’s morning routine. They didn’t need to do that, but they did because it gives us more insight into the character. The most incredible thing is that the anime loses almost NOTHING from the manga while still ADDING stuff that’s so good that most of the time I didn’t even realize it was anime original. This series is PERFECTION and I cannot wait for S2.
Spoiler warning ⚠️
the anime producers were just like how can we possibly make people more attached and make the snowball scene more gut renching and painful
No muscle devil 👿👿👿
The incredible thing about this anime is how people overanalyze stuff like this and think its amazing while probably criticizing other series for doing the same.
What does a beautifull animation of Aki making coffee, smoking a cigarrete and reading a newspaper adds to his character that you didnt get from the first episode he was on screen?
- First episode we see him we can already tell he is a calm, colected, serious guy that like his boss and hates seeing his co-workers getting killed till the point he would use violence and bullying to stop another person (Denji) from having the same fate.
- Monrning routine scene adds..........nothing, maybe that....he likes coffee.
Its a filler scene that fanatics overanalize under a positive light to make the series look better than it actually is.
@@emerosky9899 not exactly, I´d say one of the important things about it is that ot make the characters feel alive. @@emerosky9899 when that scene came up, I forgot I was watching an anime, for a minute I felt like I was in the cinema watching the best best picture, best director, best actor movie ever made.
What I feel really needs to be mentioned for this anime is the quality they put into the sound. For example in one scene Aki sits outside an appartment to have a smoke, the scene switches to Denji who is inside the apartment and you still hear the same environmental sounds like the traffic and an airplane which you could hear earlier when Aki was sitting outside, it is just more dimmed, less clear. Just as it is in real life. It's nothing big and if you don't pay attention to it, you miss it easily. But it just makes the anime feel so much more real and less like an animation.
