This is the Rocket Appartamento TCA or Temperature Control Adjustment. It’s a new iteration of the Appartamento with some added features, a sleek new design language, but with a roughly 15% higher price tag. Amazing work dude! I'm so intrigued by the lack of flash boiling at the group after sitting for too long. Seems they may have fixed the worst part of HX machines imo. Even on my PID'd appartamento, it'll always flash boil after sitting for a few minutes of idling. I wonder if they re-tuned the thermosiphon to keep the HX from overheating, because it seems like just a PID wouldn't do the trick 🤔
I just can’t imagine, with all the technology available today, why they can’t make that temperature interface easier. Classic case of engineers not thinking user-centric if I had to guess.

if assume (and if im right, probably worth nothing) that xris' description of counting LED flashes for diagnostics wont look like the video showed, the rapid flashing is likely a matter of the camera's FPS.

For a machine that costs as much as it does, it really is basically just a machine that looks kinda nice and really that feels about it...
Quite an underwhelming lack of features, finicky setting adjustment with the flashing lights to only be able to set to a handful of presets? yeah nah....
AU$3.7k price tag for this? I get it's got all the fundamentals for making great espresso but for that much, I think there's plenty of better options out there for marginally more or even less in some cases and even have more features for people who prefer the customisation.
Bloke I worked with for a bit has an Appartamento at home and he always said "It's a great machine but there's plenty of better, cheaper machines out there"

If you want to be able to pull shots more consistently and steam milk then yes.
in that price range, i would suggest the Lelit Bianca (i have a review on it)
la marzocco machines are great but i largely feel like the price is attributed to the brand rather than features

More than 15 percent hike but worth it. BUT for a few hundred more you can get a more precise pid.

@@itsxris although they did update it big time outside. All that light flashing and pulling up n down on the group to get temp going is a little much. I thing if it was still like 1600-1800 it would be great but I see it for 2200. wtf.
it most likely looks nicer in person, but just from video/photos alone I prefer the look of the original nera
I like the Nera for the matte black look, but I've outgrown matte black because it constantly gets dusty/dirty quick, especially on camera lol
I wanted to buy the TCA, the rockets have always been beautiful and now that it came out, I had really planned to order it, but after this video I am in doubt. Would you really buy it? Or what it's worth, which one do you think suits me best? I'm willing to spend what the TCA is worth. I don't usually buy something and change it after a short time, I would like to buy a machine that I know will be with me for a long time
So to help with your desicion. In short: don't buy the TCA. I have mine since december and I didn't get what I was paying for. First: the time it takes to get ready is ridiculously long (45+ min) second: you can brew only on the highest mode a coffee with 93 degrees. Don't get me wrong, the espresso tastes really good but you pay for the ability to change the temperature. This makes no sense at all as three of four modes are useless. On top of that you have to wait like forever for the machine to be ready. The aesthetics are on point but this is a personal preference. If you can handle it right it makes good coffee but you aren't getting what you pay for. So I will definitely switch it with something better. You should look up Lelit Mara X, Bianca or something from ECM.

I heard about another very annoying downside on another review beeing a heat up time of 42 minutes. This is a killer for me concerning energy and time it takes to be ready to brew coffee.
Personally I found about 20 minutes was enough time
And even with the extended heat up, it doesn't get to 93 degrees. Check out the review of "Kaffeemacher" and activate the auto-subtitles, they talk about in detail. Total no-go for a maschine like this.
I also saw that review from the Swiss Kaffeemacher, @@itsxris can you confirm the low temp during the first 42 Minutes (86-88 C°) ? Did you scace during your tests?
Feels like you're getting at least a 15% increase in functionality, but it isn't 2016 anymore, and I think this price range is too competitive now for this to stand out

I don’t understand why they didn’t. Just add a PID. Looks way too complicated.
The original looks much, much nicer than this one. I hate the cheap looking new knobs and the fact that they decided to spell out “Rocket” down the back of the machine in those blocky letters instead of sticking with the original emblem. I don’t really like the original cup rail, but the looks (and apparently the execution) on this new version is no better. I could take or leave the new 3D appearance and rounding of the sides. Was anyone complaining about the appearance of the original? This seems so unnecessary. The UI and UX with the variously colored blinking LED bother me, too. Owners need to memorize what the colors and flashing patterns signify? I’m in the market for my first machine, and this is an easy one to strike from the long list of options. Thanks for the overview!

That interface is AWFUL 😭
The flashing led nonsense is a hard pass. Beautiful machine but the interface is awful.
I have this machine and the video (most likely due to his camera) makes it look MUCH worse than it is. Its not an issue at all. Gorgeous machine for sure.
the flashing is a result of camera shutter speed, it does not flash in person - should have clarified in the b-roll
