It breaks my heart to see all of their personal belongings scattered all over the place, imagine being so happy with your life, living in a “wonderful” apartment next to the beach and you would never expect this to happen. Imagine walking through your home with good memories, maybe your cat ran across the same floor that would eventually collapse, chasing his toys just for this to happen? How devastating.
Not to forget these condos are $500,000-$700,000. You would hope with a property that expensive it would be safe at the very least.

There's a bit of good news concerning the person who lived in condo with bunk-bed. She survived and said there were NO children in there! She was alone, it was a spare bedroom. I was so happy to hear that!

Anytime he was called in to rescue someone or their property, he never stopped to ask who they were before he went to help them. Sorry for coming on so strong. Dumb luck would suffice and seems more likely than a divinity that half-assed it and only figured out how to save a few in the rubble.
Although, now that I think about it, maybe divine intervention kept the other 8 billion people on the planet from being in that spot when it occured. Basically makes those that died just rounding error. Yeah...that's the ticket! Everyone was saved!

This scares me so much. I had a nightmare 6 weeks ago about being inside an apartment building that collapsed, it was frightening. Don't even want to imagine the horror of what the residents had to go through. Praying, hoping that they'll find at least 1 person alive 🙏🏻

seriously, a civilian can find a survivor but rescue personnel cannot....
For all their brave work, cops, firemen and ambulance workers can be surprisingly inept at times. Seen it myself, so I didn't just make that up.
This happened in Florida, this is a new situation for them. They have to take precautions to protect themselves, and they have a large area to canvas to search. It sounds like this guy took a risk, that could of put himself in danger and lucked out saving that little boy. Hero yes, but it could of made him a victim too.
Oh, good grief. The first responders had barely gotten there. This guy happened to be on that side of the building before them. This is not an example of the first responders just twiddling their thumbs and doing nothing. It's just timing.

The collapsed building looks so much like the Alfred P. Murray building after it went down. Oklahoma still mourns the victims. I pray for our merciful God to be with the victims, their families, and all the response workers who are searching.
I am in Okc as well. This is sadly a familiar scene. My heart goes out to all involved. 😪 The worst part is waiting to see if your family or friends are ok.

@@ct92404 exactly. I lost my dad at 14 - happened right in front of my mom, brother, and I and we had PTSD and other issues as a result of it while growing up. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if it involved an entire building collapsing. I know the pain he faces and I just pray he has a lot of love and support.
And on the flip side.. I bet if his Momma had one dying wish as that building was collapsing- it was to save her boy. At the end of the day, I am happy for that Mom that her child made it. It's probably all she would have asked for ❤

@@ct92404 thanks for the kind words. We are all doing great - we remember and miss my dad everyday (20 years passed this year) but I have an amazing Mom who dragged us out of the abyss. She is truly God-sent.
I agree with you about the building code changes! In this day and age, it's really inexcusable for things like this to happen. I also hope that in the future, significant structural issues found during an inspection require an evacuation until resolved. It might be inconvenient, but it will act as a deterrent to building owners/managers, etc who procrastinate expensive repairs.

They need to inspect the buildings more often than every 40 years. It hit the 40 year inspection mark right when it collapsed.

The way the floors pancaked indicates that the structure failed first at the very bottom, which when the support down there disappeared everything above began free-falling downward, almost as fast as a demolition crew could do it. If I lived in a building in the area built by the same people with the same structural design, I'd get out at least temporarily, too. Also, they should probably shut down the elevators in any buildings showing signs of structural damage, as the vibrations they make rushing up and down could probably trigger a failure in a building as badly structurally compromised as that one was.
They said it’s a sister building a block away. They were talking about evacuating that building until the structure is looked at.
Good points. And inspections 3 years ago showed signs of exactly what you describe. Cracks in the building, water in the parking area. The building owner will surely be sued into oblivion. Frankly they deserve jail for this level of neglect.
@@ahill4642 150+ of the "building owners" are currently buried under the rubble of their collapsed homes, already in oblivion. The apartments were not rented, they were owned mostly by their occupants. The Condo Association apparently felt the structural repairs detailed in the 2018 report were too expensive, so the majority voted against doing them immediately as the engineers who made the report suggested. Instead they kicked the can down the road until the state requirement for recertification at 40 years out from the completion of the building forced them to to start on the work this year, and they paid the price on the negligence of the maintenance of their homes.
This is tough to see! My heart & prayers are with them all!
Even in the most ghetto buildings this rarely transpires.
Sure they have maintenance negligence, pipe corrosion, etc but collapsing? Rarely.

Well there were two separate collapses of the building. First the middle block and about a 40 secs. later the outer section.

From another video that filmed this and from what he just said, this sounds almost like a building demolition. There were a couple of explosions from what I saw in the video and what he heard. May God be with the rescue crews, the people who may still be alive and trapped and the families waiting to find out if their loved ones survived or not.

And I read this today: 'The ground-floor pool deck of the oceanfront condominium building that collapsed near Miami was resting on a concrete slab that had “major structural damage” and needed to be extensively repaired, according to a 2018 engineering report that also uncovered “abundant cracking and spalling” of concrete columns, beams and walls in the parking garage."

Interesting idea. There was an explosion which registered on the Richter scale. Wasn't an earthquake; was the Navy running some tests offshore. Its interesting how much US media play on peoples emotions, how much they try to get the emotional response. "What was going through your head? I am glad your safe. How do you feel about it?" Well, hes a curious onlooker, he was not in danger and what is he supposed to friggin feel? Of course he helped when he was needed, he is a human being, not a machine. Manipulative!

How is that manipulative? Asking a question about how someone was feeling is not manipulative. Just because he is a curious onlooker and not in danger doesn’t mean he won’t have any authentic emotions. If the interviewer were manipulative I imagine he would have suggested that the gentleman being interviewed felt a certain way to illicit a particularly response (I.E. You must have been terrified) Asking about someone’s emotions does not necessarily mean that people are playing on your emotions. I want to know what someone is thinking when they witness something like that and engage in an act of heroism. I’m glad he’s safe. In contrast, had he interviewed a robot 🤖 he would be foolish to ask questions about feelings and emotions.
I think we make a mistake as human beings when we attribute our likely emotions in circumstances like that as a universal response.

I agree, looks like it would have been hours for them to find the boy. All video I’ve seen is people standing around, climbing to the top of the rubble, looking around, and barely scratching the surface with the dogs on a short leash.
Maybe you could call and tell them exactly where to look?
The dogs are the best chance of finding people. To give the dogs the best chance they should go in first before the area is contanimated by other traces.
Going in like a bull in a china shop puts both recuers and survivors at increased risk. One of the hardest things to drum into First Responders is stop and think first!
