Great video, I was wondering what exatly is the masterpoint? I thought the masterpoint was the whole tensioning anchor, but since you said we have no whoopie slings going from each bolt to the masterpoint, then I guess it's a very specific part of the whole anchor system, is it where the shackle secures the sling to the weblock?

Yea. When we say master point... we mean where we connect the shackle to all the legs of an anchor (individual backups or not) and connect our weblocks to that.

Hey i think its really important to mention that loading the biners on the large side like that reduces their strength by almost half, so potentially the biners are weaker than the hangers. Loading with their small side to the spanset it is far stronger, but leaves no equalisation. it should have a notice on that bit of the video against using biners in that way therefor making them unsafe for spanset rigging. Also, 1T spansets are absolutely bomber and when used in a 3-4 point anchor with 8mm deltas and into a pure lock. they equalise really well and there is still tons of space for whoopies (IMO pretty against whoopies) Also i much prefer spansets on a 2 bolt anchor than static rope, unless i double wrap the static.

I looked this up and you are right! I didn't realize that putting a spanset on the wide side of a carabiner tri-loads it. Unless you use delta quicklinks (the triangle kind), spansets should not be used! And don't forget to add some sort of redundancy so it doesn't shock load if 1 bolt failed. Thanks for pointing this out.

Anything wrong with oval steel carabiners then, as they are symmetrical & would not be tri-loaded??

@@HowNOT2 hey Ryan, what do you think it could be used to backup the sliding x, without whoopie slings? Dynamic rope maybe?

But if you use more than one spanset (say you use one for every anchor point) will that still be unsafe? All the highline I've seen and walked were rigged like that!

If you have one spanset for each anchor point (bolt), how is it equalized? Independent strands are important but also pulling on all of the points evenly is too.

SpanSet is a brand, not a product.

It’s become a generic trademark at this point, like “biro” for pens and “hoover” for vacuum cleaners etc.
Sure the proper name might be “lifting sling” or whatever, but most people I know refer to them as spansets regardless of the brand.
