Such a stunning piece of work.
I started crying once you put the ashes in. I lost my dad back in June and we had him cremated. This makes me wish I had taken up woodworking with him when he was alive. While I wasn't able to do something like this, I created a shadowbox of all his things that hangs over his urn box.
    God, I miss him.

My dad was with the Special Forces , in Vietnam .
His group were known as" The Pioneers" and trained Indigenous people called Bong and Montagnards . He was with a group called MACV/SOG" Pioneers"
When my dad passed 5 years ago , he had made arrangements to.be cremated ...1
Always the loving dad, he preplanned and had prepaid for everything ...never telling us kids ....but the Urn he never chose but instructed , in his will to me as executor, to chose the "most basic wooden one " because my dad was a woodsman and simple man .
Guess what the model was called which had just been made by hand from a local woodsmith for the mortuary by a veteran craftsman?
    The Pioneer :)
Thank you for sharing this as a gift of love brother .

The choice of wood and the workmanship is very fitting for a fine memorial box. I would only add gold leaf lettering on the front panel showing his name and the two dates. I like your design. My dad's body was donated for medical science research and when they were done, the doctor who knew him well, who was a member of that same research facility, took his asses and sprinkled them on the beach where my dad and mom used to enjoy so many walks together. I carry his memory with me all the time and we still enjoy the many pictures of him enjoying life and I like that more than I would a box or urn with his asses inside. But, you did a beautiful work and tribute with your lovely box. So tasteful and peaceful.

Chris just found this very emotional memorial build. Your respect for your craftsmanship honors your Dad in a way that requires no talk as words would not do the respect your beautiful piece speaks. The attention to detail especially the compound miter moulding, choice of hinges, ⁰d the gorgeous wood. God Bless your Dad & your family.
