Thank you very much for this review. It has been a pleasure to perform this song and an honor to be featured on your channel. If your tour brings you to Spain at some point, I would be delighted to accept your invitation 🤘😉
I said some while back I would like this review. Herman is absolutely right. When a cover is made the artist needs to own it. If all you do is try to replicate the original. Then I would rather just listen to the original. Algal, you did a fantastic job of owning this song and it is such an exciting delight. You took an epic song and made it an adventure to be discovered. Thank you,
Really love how he strips the highly technical solo passages down to their melodic essences. Such a tasteful way to translate the original to this arrangement. Absolutely Wonderful.
Loved the emotion he put on the recorder parts, he seems to really know that instrument really well. It isn't the most difficult instrument, but making it sing like that is NOT easy, he is fluent in it.
@@AlgaltheBard I did what people wouldn't, and relistened since you replied on a year-old comment. I hear a piccolo and a recorder or ocarina. I stand corrected, and you sir, are indeed right. Edit: lmao, did not realise who was responding. I'll of course defer to your knowledge.
@@eeriegoesd he shows off way too much and too flashy. I get sometimes during a concert showing off can be worth it, but even casual play sessions with other people he shows off way too much
Bardcore is my most recent favorite genre! It's some of the most relaxing music I've ever heard! I have to disagree with the statement that it's a one time listen for this cover. When I turn on Bardcore, literal hours pass, yet it feels like only a few minutes. It's an amazing experience to just wind down the day!
I've followed this guy for a while, he does so well and plays like a million instruments. It just goes to show that a decently written song played by someone with some skill will sound great no matter what style.
It was expected that the song wouldn't have a solo. Not only because it's a really long and incredibly hard one, but also because it wouldn't fit much with the thematic. I mean, this cover is something you'd hear while relaxing at a pub after you came back victorious from an adventure and just want to relax and recover. A 3 minutes long solo in the middle of a relaxing bard song would be a bit out of place
It goes to show how great DragonForce tunes are when translated to new forms of music but keeping the song intact. It's amazing. Both the original and the cover. Thanks for sharing!
That guy is great at every instrument. Also, the lyrics of Through the Fire and Flames really fits this vibe. "We are now at peace, and the song will be now used in celebration!"
Algal's performance is great, but your reaction, the sheer joy radiating form you as you hear this just has an uplifting effect. Thank you for doing this. You have made the world brighter for all that see this.
I saw this before, I too was a little disappointed for not having the Solo, but looking back I can see that the solo wouldnt fit that well in the arrangement of that song, the soul of the solo was there and then reaching straight to the "Here we stand" part turned out great.
That’s what I like about this, he’s so willing to share his music with other creators and how they interpret their songs. Totally awesome. Thanks for a good time listening to this song.
This cover is stupidly good ! I still remember exactly when I heard for the first time this song and told to my music lover friends about you ! that song embodies more than music to me
It actually sounds like it could be placed in an old RPG fair stage... like imagine Chrono Triggers Millennium Fair with this song playing in the background.
I swear, Herman Li is just a great guy. You barely ever see bands or even individuals of a band go in and react to all the different ways people cover one of their songs
It's not musicians but I get the same energy as watching Lani and Kaiser of Team Fourstar going over their stuff and talking about the reaction videos they've seen. Even used a clip of one in their most recent video.
Imagine if in Dragonforce's next album, they have Alejandro Sayago to have a flute solo and TwoSetViolin have a violin battle (kind of like the guitar battle in TTFAF music video). Then there's Davie just slapping with Charles.
I would love to see more collabs in power metal, in general. I've always wanted a Dragonforce/Rhapsody mashup. But I think God is saving that for the end of the world, because it would be too epic.
Algal is the real deal, there are a lot of medieval music channels but almost all make the music with computer, Algal plays It for real, all instruments, it's impressive, and he make really good arrangements, not just a copy from the original, great musician, so proud he's a spaniard like me ;-)
Man, that's a fact, you became one of the most influent guitar player in this f*****g world ! Et merci pour toute cette inspiration et cette bonne humeur que tu nous offre ! On t'aime !!!
first time i heard this version of this song was with my 84 y/o grandmother. She has since passed away. Not a single day has passed since she died, where i have not missed her. Im super introverted as a person. She was the one person who always tried to push me out of my comfortzone. If anyone every reads this, her name was "Bente" and she was an amazaing person. This cover reminds me of her, i love you granny, i hope i meet you again soon
Herman Li, you are a MAN among men sir. You always have the best positive things to say about people as musicians and artists. You are so skilled yourself, you could shred almost anyone with even well meaning constructive criticism. Yet you never even let on that you have any criticism to offer, if even you might have some. You are a generous and kind man. A refreshing breath in an internet world that can take one's breath away. Thank you for your kindness and all you do. Rock On!
I love that you listen to people who do covers, react to them, and just hearing your take on it. Really good stuff. I'm fairly new to Dragonforce and your channel really, but I have a lot of appreciation for how down to earth you are. Funny story for you, I pulled this up on RUclips when I was playing DnD and my bard scored a nat 20 on his performance check and said "this is how skilled my bard is." The DM and the other players got a good laugh out of it!
Imagine you're at a live from Dragonforce, and suddenly at the peak of the hype someone pops on stage in utter silence and the whole group start shredding a pure hardcore cover of their most famous song. Would have to finish in a mutation towards the expected electric version but what a twist !!
It is worthy of a chuckle and heartwarming to consider how at first, busker Herman was balking at the thought of delving in the memories of this musical piece, recalling along the lines of "I do not want to hear this song again, do I?" but has since embraced the world-... Nay, the entire universe "Through the Fire and Flames" has spawned. I do wonder if it is because he'd rather soak in the attention he and his companions are receiving... Nay, it must be more than that. Most musicians would let a world of fury upon their impersonators. I commend DragonForce for their positive response. Let other performers follow their example.
This version brings me up to the fantasy living being adventure with sword n magic fighting to the dragons n doin a celebration in the tavern bar laughing and happy together with the party with food drink n stories
What an awesome version of your song! Made me want to get some cardboard & silver duck tape to make some armor, and go questing..... or maybe I'll just finish my coffee, take a shower, and go to work.
Awesome! I am a big Fan of Algal and DF so its nice to find this reaction! If you want to something like this again, there is a pretty awesome and unusual cover by the Morander Brothers here on youtube which might be worth a look too.

Love your covers. So glad you got a shout-out from one of the originators.
I love your covers! They're great for DnD!
@shadowTheEdgelord my party instantly recognized his cover of Toxicity while they were just chilling and RPing in a tavern.

Another one is AC/DC and Angus Young)

Walk into a tavern in 1564 and hear the band laying this down. I'd order a pint for the band.

bardcore. lol. i love this
Imagine if someone did a real cool power metal version of this tavern music. Damn I can hear it now
Algal the bard has a lot of good stuff on his channel. Covers and originals all with medieval instruments, all played by him.
I really like his System of a Down covers
yeah, I watch his videos few years back
they're not medieval, just european
Hallowed be thy Name, ftw
temple of the king is a personal favorite of mine

Also if he has passion. Skill alone would only replicate the song 🙂
Further proof that "Through the Fire and Flames" is legendary!!!!

That guy is great at every instrument. Also, the lyrics of Through the Fire and Flames really fits this vibe. "We are now at peace, and the song will be now used in celebration!"
This works so well as a tavern song! It really does make my day happier just to listen to it! Algal is wonderful.

I think they could invite the flute guy for the solo. He re-did his cover and it's even crazier than the original one!
Next Dragonforce Album, featuring, a bard with a flute, a horse with buckets and at this point probably laser velociraptors with shovels.
also a man without head and a bassist in full sailor moon costume for some reason.

My mind would be absolutely blown if I heard this guy playing this in some random pub!!! This was so awesome! Thanks Herman for sharing this.
I love it. Herman your music lends itself perfectly to this kind of music, I dont think heavy metal often does that.
