- The song is about Grace Gifford going to see her fiance Joseph Mary Plunkett for the last time in Kilmainham Gaol, he was executed on the 4th May 1916. sung by Anthony Kearns.
As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Jail
I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we've failed?
From our school days they have told us we must yearn for liberty
Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me
Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye
Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand
The love I bare for these brave men, the love for my dear land
But when Pádraic called me to his side down in the GPO
I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go
Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye
Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too
On this May morn as I walk out, my thoughts will be of you
And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know
I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose.
Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye
For we must say goodbye Видеоклипы
Everyone should know the back story of this song. It is simply one of the MOST beautiful love stories ever, made so much more so because it is true. And Mr. Kearns nails each and every nuance of it so powerfully. Unbearably sad, inspiringly beautiful.
Agree 100%
He has a voice that’s perfect to sing GRACE
I don't know if I'm reading something into it, but it seems to me every time I watch and listen to this that he feels this very deeply as he sings it and even when it fades to a close it lingers on his face. Also, as much as it gives me a high to hear him raise the roof with his power or trill a song about a lass somewhere or other, for me one of his finest few seconds is the soft sustain at the end that he holds complete control over until the last. Sigh!
Just listened to this again for the umpteenth time. Can never get enough of Athony Kearns and Grace. Thanks again Machree01.
I saw him with the Irish Tenors in Cleveland, Ohio years ago. This is the most beautiful rendition ever of this song
Bravo Anthony! This man does not have the recognition he deserves.
I have never ever heard this song sound better. What a wonderful voice
How beautiful!
Still one of my favorite haunting songs
Anthony’s voice gives me goosebumps. So beautiful...such a talented man
I first heard Anthony sing this about 20 yrs ago...I was sobbing...So beautiful...Bless this couple. They will be in each other's arms for eternity.
The most beautiful love song, and the best performance of it... Thank you, Anthony Kearns... for making me feel the true emotion of it... I cannot stop listening...
This song is classic and makes me cry every time! Can’t imagine what my ancestors went through. Even though I never had the fortune to meet my great grandparents, they emigrated from Ireland to NY, and I am so grateful for their bravery ❤️
Love this song
Anthony has taken us to the time when Grace says "goodbye".
In Nov 2001, while on a road trip, my husband surprised me with the CD - could NOT get this song out of my head - that night I composed Christmas lyrics to the melody and kept the appropriate title. I sing it every Christmas at church. I agree with Cheri - Anthony's talent is phenomenal!! I believe his rendition was my initial love for the song, desire to know the history, and the motivation to compose a Christmas song about the One who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of the entire world. Thank you, Mr. Kearns!
Love the song, love the performance and I love the performer. ♥️♥️♥️
Stunning
the most beautiful rendition I've yet heard
This is my favourite rendering of this song.Anthony Kearns voice suits it perfectly.
We need people of this courage , NOW !
That is one of the best renditions of any song I've ever heard, anyone not moved by that aint human. Quite Brilliant
This is unreal, what a voice. This is my favourite version of Grace. It is like Joseph Plunkett himself is singing.
I am Irish/German. This song brings tears every time I hear it. Such a love song.
And I am of 100% Irish ancestry, and I agree with you 100%.
Thanks so much for this! The quintessential version of what has to be one of the most beautifully tragic stories ever! Unbelievably well done by Anthony Kearns! Wonderful!
No one sings it better. Beautiful!
This song is great I agree a brings tears to the eyes. Anthony does a great job singing this song.
Such an amazing voice
What a stunning version of this emotional and emotive song. It brings a lump to my throat.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard -- really moving. Anthony Kearns is amazing - GREAT voice.
Anthony sings this bittersweet song with lovely pathos. He's a wonderful singer! Thanks be to God for giving Anthony this special voice! May he use it wisely for years to come.
I saw the Irish Tenors at Bergen PAC in Englewood last night. Ronan sang Grace last night. Did a nice job but came here to show my wife Anthony's definite version.
Heard all versions of Grace, an absolutely emotive song, this is the pinacle.....
This song always brings me to tears. The sweetness of the love story and the tragedy of his execution, their being married only minutes before he was taken out. She never remarried.
My favorite version and the one that best evokes the essence of Joseph Mary Plunkett. He was a patriot, a poet, a gentleman, a hero who lay down his life for his countries liberty and left his beloved Grace to mourn his loss. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful voice and song. The Irish buried their sorrows in poetry and song. Despite all the adversity, Ireland survived.
I wish I had heard him sing this song before we visited Ireland, Dublin and Kilmainham Goal.
A great tenor of the highest calibre, combining talent with naturalness.
I remember my mom playing this music very often as I was growing up and still now. I’m obsessed with the Irish Tenors and all of the members. The history and the talent is incomparable
Anthony Kearns has the most powerful endearing voice I have ever heard.I love him dearly.
I would have left home for him when I was a young woman.
absolutely beautiful. I wish i could sing.
A hauntingly sad but beautiful song.
Well sung by Anthony Kearns.
I ugly cried the first time I Heard this.
Anthony is one of the best tenors alive today!
No one can sing rthis particular song betr than Anthony breaks my heart
Anthony's voice combined with the french horns and the true story behind it....I'm crying as I write this!
Probably the greatest all around "love" song ever written.
Also an anti-war song.
Great voice! I remember watching him sing this song on a PBS special years ago. I loved the song and voice then and I still do.
Imagine this love song, when next you stand in the Kilmainham jail yard looking at the crosses.
Its Very Emotional ! To Know What Those Brave Men Went Threw
Show me in the Gospel in accordance with Acts 17 vs 10 & 11 We should use a ✝ Cross? This symbol was used by the Sun god TAMMUZ Ezekiel chapter 8 verse 18 Remember the Sun rises in the East and the first century( Roman Catholic Church 🐺 WOLFS that crept in) took the EUCHRIST CROSS WITH GOLD SUN BURST AROUND IT of the Lords supper and raised it to the EASTERN WINDOW and commited an abomonation of the Devils supper not the LORDS. We are to take our cross figuritivitly and no such symbols as God will not share his glory with anthor its contrary to the gospel.Isaiah chapter 42 vs 8 Iam the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Good as ever.
Fabulously sung- thank you Anthony!🍀
What a Voice!!
My favorite version.
@machree01 Cannot thank you enough for this absolutely beautiful film of Anthony K. singing Grace. Makes me want to weep, every time I watch him and hear him sing. He's absolutely fantastic. Have heard other versions, but this is hands down the best. Thanks Machree01. Great job.
Grace died in 1955, the same year my Grandma Grace died and the same month I was born. My hubby and I traveled to Ireland and visited Kilmainham Goal. Learned the story of Grace while we were in the chapel there.
when i listen to this song ,i can't help admiring the bravery of the men who died to free their country from tyranny.l'm scottish but have irish ancestry and we had the chance to break free from london but all we had to do was put a cross on a ballot paper.Shame on us for not even being brave enough to get that simple task right
understand this Eddie my friend.. freedom is a long fight! its a fight that will sometimes manifest in the form of violent rebellion.. other times it will come in the form of poetry, debate and elections.. but sooner or later if a people truly desire freedom it will present itself.. in Ireland we gave our poets, scholars and romantics in 1916.. we have gave many more since.. and I can promise you now that my 6 counties will someday be united with our real mainland.. Scotland will gain her Independence too.. keep the belief.. write, sing and debate!
never a truer word spoken ,the pen is mightier than the sword
I am Scottish/ Irish ancestry and I agree.
Maravilhosa interpretação!
I absolutely love this song. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing anthony perform three times and I’ve met him personally. Such a great man and very talented.
A well trained and beautiful singer. Classically trained.
I could lister to him sing all day - just great.
Great!!!, he is a great tenor singing a great so heartfelt piece...oh boy!!! BRAVO!!!
what a lovely song, I've just come across Mr. Kearns, a marvellous voice.
Absolutely Beautiful🏴
The most beautiful song ever sang .
You don't have to be Irish to be overwhelmed by this heart-rending ballad. No one has sung it better than Anthony Kearns...... and for the life of me, what were the 34 who turned a thumbs down thinking?
an awesome voice. so happy I had opportunity to see him in CLEVELAND, OH with Irish Tenors
Very beautiful song by a great singer that tell s a true story. Touches the heart!
Tom in TN. USA
Too lovely for words.
I give thanks unto the Lord for this, his gift. His mercy endureth for ever. Amen.
Outstanding rendering of a great song. Thanks.
Another gem from Machree01. This song was written by Frank and Sean O'Meara - credit where credit is due.
Best version of this stirring song ....
absolutely amazing song so sad knowing the history behind to Joseph and grace together again in the lords paradise
learning this song in school cause of the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 rising and its so sad but so good
+Siobhan Hudson i know they fought for our freedom
Beautiful.
The Bravest Men The World as Ever Known ! R.I.P you Brave Fenian Men !
Wonderful version have a wonderful song. It's so powerful that even Rod Stewart did a version on RUclips
Fantastic song and brilliantly sung by Anthony Kearns, but IMHO the best version is sung in Glasgow by 60,000 fans inside Celtic Park football stadium.
That was excellent!
Today is exactly one hundred years ago that Joseph Mary Plunket was executed. My wife and I visited Kilmainham three years ago.
Vir almal wat vir hul land moes sterf... so mooi! Lest we forget.
I really love this song and A K does it to perfection, it is so sad, I stood in Kilmainham jail on holiday in Dublin and it must have been so hard for this young couple, who were is such a desperate situation, while armed solders stood by though what did they think this sick man could have done I can't imagine !!!!!
+Jo Sparkes Aye AK sings this well . History is well served by song . Soldiers / militia follow orders many knowingly committing murder - shame on the heads of those who gave judgements / orders. Grace and Joseph will be remembered on 4 May 2016 along with many who fell 100 years ago
+michael cushing Thanks for your nice message it is very true what you say. This song is utterly beautiful though also utterly poignant too. Take care.
this song breaks your heart as you listen to it because you know every word of it is true, my brother and sister saw and toured the jail where joesph plunkett was executed, and joesph plunkett has a simple cross over his grave, I don,t know wheter grace was burued beside him when she died or if she remarried after joesph,s death, but as you listen to this you can tell that anthony kearns feels every word of this song,
What a lovely voice and song, just love it.
Really love this song. So much I've requested it played at my funeral. Hope it's a long long time though
I still remember learning JM Plunkett's poem "I see His blood upon the rose" in 4th or 5th grade at St. Andrew's school in Bayonne.
What a most true and beautiful voice and so very musical. Mairead Tallon, Dublin
Not Probably: it is them greatest love song ever written!
Anthony feels each note - beautiful!
One of my favorite songs. I too am Irish - last name O'Donnell.
This song is amazing. Anthony is amazing. I saw him live with the tenors twice
AMAZING
Lovely version of a recent Irish classic.
Greatest love song ever.
A beautiful song about two Brave and Beautiful People. Irish unity was their dream and the dream of all those Brave Heros, May Their Dreams be Realised soon. Adh Mor..
My name's Grace Gifford toooo :o
One of the best performances ever from Anthony Kerns. If the Urish Tensors. Grace. As we gathered near the chapel walk Grace just hokd me in your arms and let this moment linder. They'll take me out at dawn😂 and i will die
Beautiful!!
This is so beautiful, Thank you.
Love, love, love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
While Anthony is not my favorite of the Irish Tenors, I will (grudgingly) admit he IS the best singer of them all. I love his voice and pitch, and even though John McDermott is my favorite, none of them could have done as well with this song as Anthony does. His voice really makes these lyrics come alive.
this makes me cry every time I hear it, it,s so tragic, but a beautiful song
awesome love this song thanks for sharing
